The devs really updated chess to run in an rts style of game

Not just a cool down, pieces even have travel time. You can see in the video when he attacks white's king, the king moves as the queen goes to kill him. 0:32 This provides a nerf to sniping pieces across the board. Though it might be interesting to see some pieces that move faster, or cool faster. e.g. the bishop becomes the sniper we always knew it would by having a fast travel speed to kill enemies before they can get away, while the horse has a fast cool down so it can run all over the place.

I feel this could only work online like this because if it was in person half the board would be covered by people moving their arms around

It could also work on a local network. Like, 4 computers on the same local network, directly connected.

And each person still having their own physical board connectes to the network. If they so prefer.
A chess game controller basically, special pieces on a special board that transmits the players moves into the digital game session. While the other player's pieces and moves are represented, not physically materially, but rather only visually. Per the technologies mentioned.

I made a four player chess board back in high school, but mine had the three outer corner squares missing... That helped to keep the rooks safer but still left a corner for the knights to move in... It worked really well 😊👍

I once played a version of this where 20 players controlled 2 teams, each player had a couple of pieces on either the white or black team, it was such a chaotic mess but it was very fun.

You could see them stop making moves to prepare to dodge the attack. I get the feeling that threatening a move like that could let you win momentum in your favor by forcing them to prepare.

it was so weird seeing the guy not be able to escape getting checkmated, i was like “JUST MOVE DOWN” and then i remembered that it was more speed than intellect
0:13 Is everyone just going to ignore that Red chose to do literally nothing about their checkmate?
I don't think there was anywhere safe the king could move to, so Red was trying to bring in their knight to attempt to capture the white rook.
It was quite a blunder, because red could've brought their rook back, bring their king back, and block with their knight, thereby giving a chance to escape, or capture.
Red could move b9 to b10 and then King from a9 to b9

The gimmick of this video was that the turn based mechanic of chess was removed, this makes it fall into the genre of real time strategy game. While the players decide in real time, the units and actions are bound to limited movements and turns. Now that the game has removed that and players are free to do what they want and are only limited by the range of the pieces which visually is akin to rts games of the 90's because units had poor pathfinding.
Incredible how I had to explain the joke because you couldn't comprehend the fundamental difference between a real time strategy game and a turn based strategy game

Honestly chess without turns seems kinda fun, like a more reactive and real time battle
so if you're fast you can play more moves? I'm very lost
It seems like you can move any piece as fast as you can, but once you used the piece, you have to wait for the cooldown before you can use the piece again.
Also each move takes time, as you can see how white avoided mate mid-move
every piece has a cooldown. so you can only move a piece a certain amount of times per second.
This is the most chaotic chess I ever seen in my life
this would be so broken on a tablet, being able to eliminate travel time between the pieces to maximize the speed of a large force, such as a very organized wave of pawns rushing the enemy or moving bishops together to basically have them act as one super bishop
The travel time isnt because if a mouse its just how the things work

@@YeviCoulson Perhaps, but movement speed is limited by the actual movement speed and cooldown of the pieces, not the input method.
