The steam engine was A2 995 and it has quite an interesting history. The A2 class in general was built to haul the Overland train from Melbourne to Adelaide. They had a long and successful career. Now about 20 years ago there was a company called “West Coast Railway” which operated the Warrnambool line. Now the founder and CEO just happened to be a railway enthusiast who had already restored two R class locomotives to operate the Saturday train (yes a steam engine ran commercially until 2004). Now Garry wanted to restore a third steam engine and selected A2 995 as the prime candidate. They got as far as shunting it into the Port of Echuca where it was to be restored. Unfortunately Garry passed away and WCR went under a few years later. A2 995 was sold to the council I think and is slowly undergoing cosmetic restoration. Occasionally the batteries are charged and the headlight is lit, along with a small fire lit in the firebox. It’s shunting was the last movement on the port line.
Steamrail Victoria have restored A2 986, and you can usually travel behind it a few times a year.
As for the turntable, it’s still in use! On a normal year it sees two or three special trains a year and the steam engines get turned on the table.
On the weedex Z van the wheel was for the hand break and the valve was for the air break. I believe the control of when it sprayed was in another carriage on the train.
The other red wagon was a GY wagon. Extremely common (over 1000 built) for carrying grain from silos and farms to port.
Thankyou for this comment! So interesting!
I wouldn’t mind heading up there for a steam train ride!
@@MuiTube I think echuca is one of the places A2 986 visits regularly.
In the 1980's I worked in the Melbourne yard and the weed train was still in use doing weeds and once fire season came it was filled with water and kept on guard for bushfires. The wheel you were spinning was the handbrake and the seats was where the guard sat so he could look out at the signals
Have a great evening and be safe and careful.😊👍🙏✌️
Made to look just like it would have in the 1800s ..... expect for the bbq & wheelie bins that is!
Haha that’s it
Love your work, really enjoyed the video, thanks mate.
I've been the Echuca years ago, I remember going to the holden museum and Port of Echuca, where we went on a boat ride. One thing I disliked about that part of Victoria was the dry hot 44 degree heat.
All those things are still there! Yeah the heats crap but you get used to it
There's something about trains, they have so much history it intrigues me! Keen to see the silo art vid in the future! They are incredible! Your little one has grown so much and is super cute! Another great video thanks :)
Yeah I’ll be heading out to see the silos maybe around may when it cools down a little! Thanks !

hi scott, in eltham on laughing waters road there is a place called Killeavy where and old house once was in the the 1850's. maybe you should do a metal detecting video on it.
Is that the place at the very end of laughing waters road? I swim down there in summer
@@MuiTube yep
@@MuiTube i just went there today with my metal detector but i didn't find much only a few rusty nails from the house
Grouse vid. Wvtte.
A while back you made a video about an abandoned diamond mine, is it in nsw?
Diamond creek in Victoria
@@MuiTube Is open to anyone? So anyone can just go into the mine and start picking away looking for diamonds?
@@random4969 the suburb is called ‘diamond creek’. It’s not a diamond mine. Was a gold mine. No gold left
@@MuiTube Haha correcTED'D well I am slowly going blind in my left eye so I got a good excuse 😁
Why did you quit youtube?
DLive is where it’s at now
To keep us amused, could you not make (say) a video around your neighbourhood?
Keep ya eyes peeled for a local video very soon
Will you be makimg more videos?
I’m working on filming up to 10 at once at the min. I’ve had a few personal issues and between Melbourne going into lockdown all the time I’ve had to make a few Sacrifices with the channel. But new stuff at some point in the next month!
@@MuiTube Good to hear.
Weeded caboose is gone.
Oh damn!
