    I hated what he did but he did two good things that I remember, he made the 45 minute trains and trams run to a 20 minute timetable and meant that Sundays were no different to Saturdays, Also he reinstated the Echuca train service but at first it only ran on Friday night and Sunday as far as I remember.

    Let's talk about the way Kennett decimated the rail system, how he closed down so much of the regional system. Mr "privatize", he was so destructive, not to mention what he did to schools later on too. A self-important middle class man who had a barrow to push and he didn't miss an opportunity to do so.

    • @peachyb1969
      @peachyb1969 2 года назад +2

      And let's not forget the night he lost the election, and he raced back to his offices and started shredding documents, all because he arrogantly didn't think he'd ever lose the election.
      I wonder how much stuff he did do wrong, that has never come to light, due to his dodgy shredding.

    This brings back memories.
    What was the story here?
    Apart from people being unhappy about the fare increases, was the introduction of the Met ticketing system mismanaged?
    There seemed to be a lot of confusion about the costs of tickets and how far people were allowed to travel in the fare zones.

    • @JohnCitizenDU
      @JohnCitizenDU 2 года назад +2

      The introduction of the Neighbourhood Ticketing System. It was in hindsight, a bad idea, plus it was confusing as well.

    • @peachyb1969
      @peachyb1969 2 года назад

      Yes, it was pretty confusing to begin with, or for anyone from interstate or overseas.
      It basically meant that most of the inner network of Melbourne, so many kms from the CBD, were in Zone 1.
      Then Zone 2 kicked in from a certain point, to go out to the outer suburbs.
      Later on, there was a Zone 3 included on a small portion of the network that was even further out.
      It was pretty ridiculous in theory.
      It did become easy enough to handle, if you used it frequently enough. But the zones were a pretty ridiculous idea.
      Even more annoying for those who required getting on or off just one or two stops into the second zone, coming to or from the city.

    Lolz compared to now under Metro, Yarra Trams or National Busses?!! They had it alot more easier compared to now in 2018 but atleast the zones got simplified down to 3 in late 2007 though (Woohoo!!?!). Kennett with that deadpan charm of his would destroy a public asset among many others in the early 90's that would become irreparable in the future, this is just 1 out of many assets.. Labor’s Joan Kerner (sic) actually did ruin the state by driving it to near bankruptcy. Jeff was unpopular because he had to eliminate the waste, beginning with public servants who spent their days doing nothing. I was a victim of a fat lazy and rude public servant of those days so I was glad to see their numbers culled. I still remember celebrating when I heard the news.
