A couple weeks ago, I got a comment on one of my videos asking how I know what face molds my dolls have, so here's my response :) I really enjoyed talking about this topic! Thanks for watching!

That is an excellent reason to make a video! "I realized I had a lot to say on the subject". I love that! They should categorize videos!

Great video!! I think the #1 thing for people to know when trying to ID a Barbie is that the dates on head, back, or butt are not the year the doll was made, but when the mold was created. It's hilarious to me how many listings on resale sites will say 60's Barbie when anyone looking at the doll would know that is not how dolls/people looked back then lol.
The head mold gallery on Fashiondollz is my Barbie bible lol. I have spent days going through all the pictures. I recently returned to collecting after a nearly 30 year absence, and there were so many good dolls I missed. When I started looking at the new Fashionistas, I'd find myself drawn to certain dolls whether I liked their clothing or faceup or not, and because of the gallery, I learned they shared the same sculpt as dolls I loved. It's also been helpful in pointing me in the direction of more affordable versions of the faces I love: I just look up prices for every doll with the same sculpt until I find one in my budget.
I'm a member of an ID My Barbie group on facebook as well as a few other Barbie groups. The ID group is usually kind and helpful, but the others can get rather rude and just respond "Google it" when you post a pic. That's actually happened on a few of my posts in the ID group, but I think those people got booted after that. A tip I was given when using Google Lens to ID was to do a full body (clothed) picture and if that doesn't get results, crop it down further. If you do nude it gets the wrong idea, plus there are dozens of dolls with same body, and if you do face close up, it sometimes looks for humans. I kept getting dating sites in the results when I first started lol, and often get human versions of the clothing. When you post in group for ID, the main things they look at are the body type and eyes - eyes seem to be the biggest differentiator in dolls with same sculpt.

I can't stop buying Mackies, Goddesses, and Mbilis. But I feel drawn to the 2003 Summer face as well, and I have a compelling attraction to the 2005 Barbie face, which is weird, because I normally don't care for dolls with big heads, and miss 2005 is always found with an enormous head, that I know of.

Such an encouraging and practical way of approaching this! My favourite sculpts... I have too many now, haha! But the Olivia, Alec, Daya and Summer sculpts often appeal to me lately. Nearly any boy sculpt gets me, though. :P
    Great video!

Nice helpful video, my number one favorite Barbie face mold is Mackie, and my least favorite, (I really don't like these ones) the Millie and most of the new face molds in general.
