It’s funny. I don’t recall in 2019 there being this much international attention when the Thuringia state elections were won by the party that literally built the Berlin Wall.
What is the difference between Populism and democracy Why is Populism talked about with distain when the whole point of any political party is to be the most popular get the most votes and get in to power?
I think you should do a deeper dive into what populism is. Just from wikipedia "Populism is a range of political stances that emphasize the idea of "the people" and often juxtapose this group with "the elite". It is frequently associated with anti-establishment and anti-political sentiment."
@@inkoftheworld And?? Is that meant to be some kind of condemnation? I know sober discourse is the best way to progress, but this vilifying of Israel is really starting to piss me off. It's absolutely cretinous, and morally indefensible and reprehensible.
I'm not trying to be contentious or difficult here. This is a genuine query. I don't understand what you mean by vilification of Israel. I understand what Hamas are, and how they have transformed the Palestinian people. I like to think I have at least a fundamental understanding of what is happening over there. With that being said, do you truly believe that Israel did not in many ways bring all this upon themselves? They crushed a Muslim nation of millions of people under their boot for 70 years, and somehow didn't expect a call for jihad? I realise that this is a deeply divisive issue with many layers of complexity. But Israel has done many villainous things, just like their enemies in Gaza have.
Well, firstly thanks for the courteous query. Quite refreshing 😊 This may seem evasive and it's not meant to be, however I am typing on my phone so getting into the complexities you mention will be tricky. However, I don't accept the equivalency you've inferred. Whilst the Israeli state can certainly be called into question and is not a paradigm of virtue, it's a functioning democracy defending itself against a clear aggressor. An aggressor which openly declares that it wants to wipe out all jews, and that it 'loves death more than you love life'. That cant be rationalised by a binary collonial oppressor narrative. Hamas is, by their own admission and intention, a genocidal death cult. The fellow on this podcast put it better than I.
@MountainRhode I understand the emotional gravitas of the "defence from terroristic aggressors" notion, but if you occupy and terrorize people for generations, and then one day they finally find an opportunity to retaliate (which is undeniably the case in Palestine) then it is cowardly and cruel to claim that you are a victim acting in self defence. I truly do not understand how anyone can fall for this victimized narrative that Israel has spun. Yes, Hamas make extreme and terroristic claims and take horrendous actions in their retaliation, but it is and always has been a reaction (and often less violent) to what the Israeli government has put them through. The situation isn't, and never has been, a simple disagreement over land or resources. It has been a shocking and brutally violent military occupation that has gone on for almost 80 years and is still going on.
@MountainRhode also, "it's a functioning democracy" - yes. Israel is a functioning democracy, and Palestine has never had any opportunity to form a stable political climate because it has been (I repeat) under a brutally violent military occupation for generations.
They’ve kind of always been like that. But I agree their world view has become increasingly incoherent. They are clearly controlled.
