Played traditional cabs for years. Back can’t handle it anymore so switched direct. I have a local dealer that sells GR cabs. Going to grab one of their active cabs. It’s insane how light the cabs are….magic 😂
I have these same basses and amp. The Aqua sparkle sounds great through the Ampeg cab. Im running through a SWR Goliath 410 and typically don't get the master above 9 o'clock position. Awesome playing man!
Lots of playing through Ampeg cabs in the past and being used to their tone, but this video reinforces my decision to purchase a GR Bass AT Cube 500 combo to replace the non-dual voltage amp that I had to sell in the U.S. before moving to France. I love it, tone and weight.
@@ObraBass It is possible to get an Ampeg-like tone from a GR Bass combo or amp & cab, but you can't get a clean tone from an Ampeg. So how to I get a B-15N tone from my GR Bass combo without spending a fortune on a Kemper profiling head or similar? I bought a modeling Fender Rumble Studio 40 combo for my home practice amp. I can use it as a modeling preamp by plugging my bass into the Studio 40 and connecting its FX Send to the FX Return on the GR Bass combo, using it as a powered cab. Works great! There are several of the 100 default modeling presets in the Studio 40 that are quite nice. Here's my setup. The Studio 40 is not as deep as the GR Bass, so I have access to its top control panel behind the Fender. i.imgur.com/08FLNsM.jpg
First, thanks for taking the time to do this demonstration video! So, for me the overall experience winner goes to the GR for the very distinct sounding notes and recordability. However, with a slow melodic groove, the Ampeg has more warmth and depth.
Great comparison! The Ampeg cab sounds a bit more compressed ... let´s say more old school ;-) the GR cab is more airy and open! Both cabs are great! The old school bodybuilder takes the Ampeg and the funky easy boy takes the GR! Personally I would prefer the GR for it´s more versatile sound and because I am to old for carrying around this heavy stuff ;-)
I had the Ampeg HLF 4-10 and loved it... right up until I had to move it lol. I go direct any chance I get. I currently run a Markbass head and 2-10 and I'm pondering moving to a powered GR for stage volume and small venues if needed.
Cool comparison ! The GR one have more clarity and maybe is punchier. The Ampeg one have a rounder sound. In a stage situation which one would you prefer ? What is your feeling ? In any case, both are great cabinets.
I actually like the sound of the Ampeg which makes the GR sound thin by comparison. However, the Ampeg is much too heavy for me. I would get a Barefaced Big Baby or Super Compact T instead.
@@ObraBass I think the Barefaced 2x10 would be the comparison for dB loudness. I like the idea of the GR being almost lighter than air, although I'd like to see how the GR cabs joints stand up to a couple of years of gigging. They should let us know how the joints are held together and how much it relies on glue, screws, bolts or rivets etc. Hopefully someone might open one up and do a reveal on RUclips.
Amazing demo, thank you for doing this! There is a real lack of good demos of the Ampeg PF tube amps and cabs, so this is tremendously helpful.
Thank You very much, ant thanks for watching. In a few weeks I will record a demo of Pf-t50 with Ampeg portaflex 1x12'' cab...stay tuned

The Ampeg just sounds more "right" somehow. No doubt you can get close with eq settings etc. but the Ampeg would be my choice.
on GR you can close tweeter or reduce it, on video is on full power

That P-Bass with rounds sounds great! Nice bass lines!
Thanks
Although I'm not a fan of 4x10"s, I'm firmly a 1x15" fan: I like the GR for its mid-range presence. Great for cutting through in a live mix.

Ampeg just with Ampeg !!!

Thanks. I still didn't play a GR on a gig, but considering weight, I will bring GR anycase.
Ampeg hands down.

Barefaced 4x10'' is twice as heavy as GR 4x10''.

Anche se GR e' Italiana, preferisco Ampeg e gli speakers tradizionali !! Piu punch e suono caldo !!
anche io preferisco Ampeg, la Gr mi da quella punta quasi da "basso attivo" che non mi piace
The ampeg seemed pretty muddy compared to the GR in the first round.
GR
The difference is a wood and woofers !!
