Everybody points out that it’s a stalker song but very few admit that it hits hard because everybody knows exactly this feeling. Most know what it is to fight it, to grieve the loss and feel the hurt. Just walk away and deal with the damage done the best you can or you risk becoming worse than the person who hurt you.
IIRC Steven Page said the couple in The Old Apartment were actually still together. Puts a little different spin on a great song. Glad to see it mentioned.
Sting sure was. He's discussed it multiple times in interviews. He's spoken about how weird it is that people would make this of all things their wedding song, and finding tender and loving renditions of the work hilarious.
The most played song on radio to date- over 15 million plays and counting and one of the biggest selling single of all time… The single sold almost 10 million via different platforms…
This was a breakthrough video on MTV because of the creative lighting. People used to play this for their wedding song which amazed Sting because it's clearly a stalker song.
It was also one of the videos that had the Ghostbusters logo pop out during the MTV promo contest for the Ghostbusters release. I believe there were three videos in all, but I cant't recall the other two... largely because this was the only one I actually caught live.
Yes, this is "Stalking Class 101" just like The Bee Gees' song "Nights On Broadway." Check it out, listen to the lyrics closely and you'll understand what I'm "stalking" about...Ooops, I meant to say talking about...LOL!!!
Sting could have continued to cash in on p diddler had he not been a criminal. check out The Police's other songs such as "So Lonely", "Message in a Bottle", etc. Their back catalogue is pretty large, Sting went on and is still touring today in 2024!
Guy has gurl...gurl wants to date other guys...gurl is miserable...guy asks about gurl...he wants to protect her...she comes back and now he can. She's right there so he can protect...happily ever after???
Respectfully, I wish reactors would wear both ear pieces. There are different sounds of a song coming out of the left versus the right ear piece. You are missing the whole song when you only listen through one ear piece. I only subscribe to the channels that listen through both bc it's not a valid reaction. I say all this with respect and as a way to help. God bless.
The snare drum on your video had a peculiar pre-echo that's not supposed to be there. Is it the recording you're listening to or is it your actual video doing that?
One of the biggest songs of all time. Most people can see past the lyrics and appreciate the song for being a work of genius

For another stalker song "The Old Apartment" by the Barenaked Ladies
IIRC Steven Page said the couple in The Old Apartment were actually still together. Puts a little different spin on a great song. Glad to see it mentioned.
I did cry a lot hearing this song in the 80’s! All over a girl that I lost!!!! 💔
In fact, nobody was thinking about stalker at that time. It was more like a new way to say “I’ll Never Forget You”
Sting sure was. He's discussed it multiple times in interviews. He's spoken about how weird it is that people would make this of all things their wedding song, and finding tender and loving renditions of the work hilarious.
I always thought it was about obsessive love.
That's a stand up Bass Sting is playing. A dark song disguised as a love song.
The irony of this song is how many people had it as their wedding song...

I love you guys...you always seem to put a smile on my face!!!
Greatest Stalker Song of the 80’s
funny younger people recognising the original 1983 version that Diddy covered as Puff Daddy

Wow!!! At A Wedding!!!! 😳😅
@@MIxxEDREACTIONS0520 Great Reaction and this was the original.

Sting, aka, Gordon Sumner, great bassist, singer, song writer...P.Diddy sampled two Police tunes...
Sting could have continued to cash in on p diddler had he not been a criminal. check out The Police's other songs such as "So Lonely", "Message in a Bottle", etc. Their back catalogue is pretty large, Sting went on and is still touring today in 2024!
The song was originally written by Sting.
I like to pretend that this song is a conversation between Sting’s higher self and his ego.
Guy has gurl...gurl wants to date other guys...gurl is miserable...guy asks about gurl...he wants to protect her...she comes back and now he can. She's right there so he can protect...happily ever after???
As soon as you say "stalker" you figured it out

He'll be watching you. Lol. That's a promise.
Yup, a song about stalking and I know 2 people who used it for a wedding song not knowing what the song meant. Lol.
yea, this one is pretty creepy... I think it was sampled at some point too..maybe 2000s
Despite being a great song it's sometimes referred to as "the stalker's anthem" due to the potential creepy aspects of it.
Yep the “stalker song@😂
😂😂😂😅
Yup you pretty much nailed it. This is indeed about stalking.
So much more than that in what remains one of the biggest songs in the history of rock
