I’ve watched a lot of David’s training videos and I will say they are very informative and professionally constructed. Any of his training videos are well worth watching.
Thank you David, I used this to teach myself how to teach this at school. I really want the kids in my class to be able to write and create little movies. I think it will be so much more exciting than just writing, writing, writing. At the moment they have created some clay 'Angry Bird' characters to use in a little film. I love that this uses photos and video. And...that I can delete the giggling in the background!
I enjoyed this. Very thorough. I also appreciate your comments about "actively creating" vs. "passively playing". But then, I am a teaching artist and a parent... Inspirational!

Another query: Once we share or export the finished project, can we do further editing stuff upon it? And another: once we have saved the movie on our Mac/ext. HD, can the project be imported into FCPX for editing?

Perfect class for beginning and intermediate IMovie makers...thank you! One suggestion, you cannot install this version without upgrading to the iOS8 and it takes a lot of available memory...cannot wait for ICloud Drive!

When you want to make a movie and it comes with some samples and if you look there's a neon one u then make you screen onto that but not clocking on it then press make movie and the it will just naturally come with the neon edits idk if that made sense or not probably not but oh well haha hope this helped:)

Very helpful video - thanks. Because of my background as a television commercial producer, I would prefer to work from a finished audio track first, then set up maybe 20 or 30 markers (on the beat), then cut my pictures to that. Can i-movie be used in this way? Thanks again

The option that looks like a picture on top of a picture when you are putting a video in the timeline can be also used for interviews. You can take a video of the person you are interviewing and then if the person is talking about shoes you can put a video of shoes on the place the person said shoes. The audio is still playing but the thing you are seeing is something else

I enjoyed watching this. My ipad doesn't show my video in the top left of the screen as your does. I tried editing a video I did and I wanted to put a title at the beginning of it. I have seen some video tutorials where the bar down the centre turns yellow and you can slide this along to where you want it. I also wanted to fast forward part of the video and you didn't show how to do that. You showed how to slow something down but not fast forward. My ipad is supposed to be the lastest one out, which I thought was IOS9 but it looks like it is IOS 8 Not quite sure what that means. Do you have other classes on how to do more advanced editing in iMovie and how does it compare to RUclips editing program. Which would you recomend for a beginner.

I was wondering if there was any way to manipulate the text to appear in a "custom" place on the screen. I know there is a "center" and "lower" button to move the text, but for my video, I would like it to appear at the top. Is there anyway to manually move the text box?

2) Is it possible to not have Imovie doing an awful letterboxed 16:9 cropping of videos that have been recorded vertically?
For #1 You click the video your want and hit the 3 dots "•••" and click the smaller box inside the bigger box

Hi David, thank you for this tutorial. Question. Every now and then, I'm adding 6 second video intro then 20 to 25 photo images and a 10 second video outro. Default photo length in most current iMovie App is 4.8 seconds, which is far too long and creates a totally boing video. I'm having to manually pinch 20-25 images down to 1 second and is a major paint and totally monotonous. Users should be able to easily adjust length of ALL photos inserted from 4.8 seconds default to whatever seconds they desire and that length applied to all photos. Have you figured out a way to achieve this? Yes, most of my videos are of real videos and sometimes have a need for a slideshow. Thank you so much.

Is there any way I can import videos I've recorded on my cannon camera to my iPad? I've been trying to figure out how to put videos I've imported on my commuter and put on my iPad so that I can edit with iMovie. I have a ASUS PC

I have enjoyed your tutorials. I have been trying to find a way to capture any audio that is played though my IOS device or Mac. I work for a radio station that stream our internet audio feed. I can hear it on both devices. I would like to capture the audio.I have garage band installed, but would like not to just hook up a speaker and a mike. I need to capture the audio direct from the air feed. There use to be something called "Get Tube" something like that but it no longer is available,
Second question. I would like to understand iPhoto. It seams as though the IOS iPhoto is not supported on IOS anymore. I just don't understand why I can't save all my photos. My IOS library is different from my MAC. How do I match them up? Is Photo Stream saved for 30 Days ONLY or 1000 Pictures even if it takes over 30 Days? It is confusing me. How does your picture work these days.

Is there a way to use music for an intro to an interview, then totally cut it off (not low) during the interview, and then bring it back up during the exit? So my intro is a logo and my exit is a logo. That's where I want the music playing. Everything in between I want the audio of the video to play. I know how to raise the audio of the video (which lowers the music) but I want to know if I can cut the music and then bring it back in.
Oh my God! I am only watching this to finally learn how to do picture a in a picture and that is the one part he says he doesn't think is too significant. Jesus! Glad I was paying attention. If what he says works then all my video troubles are over.

Great video. I opened my iPad and went along with you. Only problem and its a big one: why is every photo I put on the timeline ken burnsy?! It won't display the full photo. It just pans. This is horrible. How can I fix it so it just shows the full photo like a slide show?
What I personally do is just put both the beginning shot and end shot of the photo at the same position so it doesn't move at all, even though the effect is technically still there. XD
