Epic. All over America in this era, the local grocery stores ran adds featuring celebrities. Flash forward to today, and you'll be lucky to see a local grocery store commercial being run anywhere in the USA.

Big 8 is Know Food KING

Big 8 was sold to Lowes Markets sometime around 2006 and stores converted to Food King starting with the Fox Plaza location on Alameda in 2013 or so. Besides the obvious name change and "cost plus food" they still mostly remained the same including employees of the former Big 8 stores. While some stores permanently closed presumably due to lease agreements, all but the Anthony TX store converted to Food King. The Carolina Big 8 converted a couple of months ago and was nicely remodeled. One interesting thing to note is there is another store in Anthony called La Feria also owned by Lowes so time will tell if the last remaining Big 8 will convert or be permanently closed.

Sadly, Big 8 went out of business couple months back. It died with a whimper, not a bang. The one on Yarborough that had been there since before 89 just randomly closed. There are all good kings now. No more biggie the bag
