The most common intepretation of the ending is:
Zombie Yakou went to the former lab of his wife, saw an apparition/hallucination of his late wife, and got the medicine to recover from the zombified state.
If he took the medicine or not and if it worked or not is left up in the air.
His wife couldn't have used the medicine because she was never zombified (she died before the Homonculi were a thing)

      @Gestrid 3 месяца назад

It's actually not known if the medicine was even there or not. She opens the badge, but, in the next shot showing the badge, it's closed up.

@@Gestrid to add to that, it's odd to believe she had completed a medicine solving the biggest flaw of the homonculus before the homonculus project itself even finished (I mean ik that wasn't the goal of the medicine but even still)

Evan so passionately forgetting such important, plot-driving things like the whole reason Yakou took extreme measures like being willing to die to get revenge (before the zombifying was a thing) was a unique brand of hilarious. Ali's memory was great here, and I could just hear her brain melting the more and more Evan spoke. XD

Fun fact: if you pay attention the glasses Yakou wears now are from his wife. He started wearing them after she died 😢
Also it's heavily implied they were childhood friends but Yakou didn't remember her, that's why she called him an "antique" and said his head is "full of rust" and was so ready to trust him.
Im pretty sure she was dead before the events of the game, Yakou only sees her soul, as they exist in game (in a sidequest there's a ghost, and the souls shinigami reaps too! Also Ryo, and the Vivia shenanigans...)

This one was definitely the best one. It was a nice call back to him as we know what happens with the main story so to get some backstory on him is just something special. We love you Yakou! 💖

Yakou and the Researcher were married. The REAL her was murdered years before the game started. That's why Yakou committed his plan to begin with (to avenge her). Also, something that makes it even more sad is that she actually was one of the friends he played Detective with as a small child. It's just that so much time passed, he didn't recognize her at first. That's why she said "You haven't grown up at all". Because she knew him back then.

For clarification; Yakou’s love died *before* the Homunculus project. Even if Yakou did find his love’s corpse, it wouldn’t work because she’s not a Homunculus with zombified braincells, only Yakou has that. That whole “You projected me again” is because, the first time, they played detectives as kids, and he protected her back then, with the 2nd time being during his case to find her.
Yakou grasping onto the pill means he likely took it. Either it worked and he can be in the sequel, or it didn’t work and he’s in the afterlife, with his love.
Proper memory is welcome in the rain.

Yakou is awesome but he should better stay dead. Characters coming back to life is rarely a good idea. If he came back it would undermine the impact of the whole chapter 4 - the grieth the other detectives went through, Yuma and Vivia bonding and Yakou accepting his death. It would be cool to see him again but the fan service isn't worth it to me.

@@adamturek210 think it's most likely a hallucination (how would she have the cure to a major flaw of the homonculus's when the project on that wasn't even close to completed) but who knows. Either way doubt we'll see her again but hopefully they're together in the afterlife now

Man,Yakou is a tragic character from start to finish of this game. The DLC of this game, legit made me cry for my comfort character,Yakou many times already. He was abandoned by his friends who joined Amaterasu Corporation instead of remaining, leaving Yakou to be the only detective in Kanai Ward.He got beaten up by his building rentors,by the hitman when he stopped him from assassinating his wife, got into a lot of trouble with many situations, with himself being the hostage including in halara's DLC,hell even before the blank week mystery,he lost his wife in an assassination by Dr.Huesca, got his homunculi copy killing the real Yakou, and his homunculi planning his revenge against Huesca by using all the detectives in his murder plan, braved the gas chamber of the safe room which would kill him eventually, and the laser room where he would die repeatedly but survive due to Fubuki 's time manipulation forte, and after that get killed by the Hitman he himself hired, only for his body to get kicked by that bastard Yomi Hellsmile and eventually get turned into a brain dead but human homonculi in the process.
But there were some emotional and sweet moments too, when he cared about the master detectives, including Vivia, and worried about their safety, for example when he looked around for Vivia because he was worried he could do something bad to himself, and after his death telling Yuma and Vivia to both face the truth in ch 4 in order to come to terms with his actions. His redemption from Shinigami and the scene where he holds his wife's detective badge which contains the medicine to regenerate his brain cells and hearing his wife's last words made me ball up and cry.Whether he took it himself or decided to mass produce it in the underground lab for the other homunculis is left to the player's imagination.
But overall,I like Yakou and he is one of those characters Kodaka made to sympathise and make their deaths emotional like gonta and gundham.I would appreciate it if Pixel Partners and others pressed F for our boy,the man,the legend, the goat Yakou Furio.

Remember that the whole thing with the "zombies" is that they're homunculus clones created from the original humans with their memories replicated, Yakou has one because of the blood transfusion that everyone was subjected to however Yakou's wife was already assassinated by Doctor Huesca at that point which means she didn't have a homunculus to replace her, she's permanently dead. The pill wouldn't do anything to her because she was never a homunculus to begin with. It's as Ali says. The ending scene leaves it open ended on purpose, it's either a flashback or them both in the afterlife together. It all depends on what the pill actually did, and as she's the one who invented it she basically says there's one of two options when she says "regenerates zombified brain cells"
Option A) Yakou is able to become fully human again thanks to the pill and continue living
    OR
Option B) Thanks to the pill he gets rid of the zombified brain cells that keep him in a constant state or regeneration which allows his body to truly die and reunite with his loved one.

Didn't expected Yakou's DLC to be half as long as the previous ones. If anything, it easily could have been twice the size of them, with more backstory.

    Yakouuuuu!
Chapter 4 was phenomenal. A complete emotional rollercoaster from beginning to end. And Yakou... Man, what a character he was. Honestly, I think (much like with Danganronpa) the characters are where this game shines, and I'm glad we got to see these detectives again!

For starters, Yakou's wife "died" (was killed) BEFORE the whole city was replaced by homunculi, so there is no homunculus for her. My take on the ending was that her ghost (or maybe even a hallucination of her) talked to him about the medicine inside the badge, which was on the floor, and he picked it up. And the last scene after that to me was human Yakou with his wife in the afterlife, because they're both dead

Damn they really played long ago if they don't remember if Yakou's wife died like the whole memorable chapter 4 was about Yakou killing Huesca and avenging her. Sad coz this made this whole episode unbearable to watch. Like the others said what Yakou saw here was just an illusion of her.

The woman was killed by Dr. Huesca prior to the isolation of Kanai Ward (so before everyone became a Homunculus). In other words, she is dead, and, based on what we learned in this game, she has no chance of coming back to life.

Edit:So there is this game called Murders on the Yangtze River and it is heavily inspired by the Ace attorney games and danganronpa kirigiri light novels and my favourite manga, the Kindaichi Case Files.I would really appreciate it if you played it.Sorry for the long comment in the comment section btw 😅

She was definitely a ghost. There's actually a sidequest in the main game where a real ghost (besides Shinigami) shows up to kill a child. (The ghost was trying to save children from Kanai Ward.)

I blame the game for not including any flashback about the 4th case, considering you can't always remember everything since the DLC is a while after the main game

I think because the case only revealed that yakou was involved towards the end made it where they couldn't really explain much of who the purple haired woman was in that chapter
