Yes, I agree. It started with Men at Work as far as I can remember but 82 still had Air Supply. Still I take 1981 as the best year for pop music all time.
It seems as if 1982 was sort of the transition year from the vibe and style of the 70s into the 80s. What we get here are a few last gasps of genes that dominated in the previous decade such as California yacht rock and Philly soul while at the same time we get major breakthroughs for new wave, synth pop, and the Minneapolis sound.
True. Although there still seemed to be a few last gasps of the 70s era in this year as well (Such as "Through the Years", "Cool Night" and "Oh No") While in turn songs such as "Don't you want me" , "I Ran", and "Vacation" could have only come from the 80s.

While there was still remants of the 70s, 1982 was the moment the 80s really begins with MTV taking off, with new wave really exploding this year. Other genre's managed to thrive such as rock, r&b, and country. I used to think this year was more closer to the end of borderline decent but no this was a truly great year for music with so many classics people still recognize. Even with the early inception of MTV, the decade found it's sound pretty early. If anything, I wanna say that 1982 might actually just be the most diverse year end chart of the 80s, although 1983 would prove to be even better.
40 years ago, with probably the most ludicrous pre-SoundScan sums! Almost all songs here spent at least two weeks at their peak, some a lot more than that! And more than 10 songs were in the top 10 for at least 12 weeks! Some eras never had a single song with at least that many weeks in the top 10!
Brilliant brilliant 90percent of these songs u would not get sick off u can play them all day beats anything today. Some hidden beauty gems u just don't get on Radio 📻.Oh hail the 80s greatest decade of all time never to forget part of my childhood.Gorgeous Go Gos Girl Group had a cool year with 3 of their big hits Our Lips Are Sealed also half done by Fun Boy Three

These rankings never make sense to me. “Don’t Talk To Strangers” reaches No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 4 weeks, finishes the year at No. 20. Ranked ahead of it? “You Should Hear How He Talks About You” (peaked at No. 5) and “Key Largo” (peaked at No. 8). Huh?
I believe the two songs you mentioned were higher than "Don't Talk To Strangers" on the 1982 Year-End because of longevity. In some Billboard Year-End lists there are songs that have lower peaks but are placed higher than a couple songs that peaked at #1 or in the top 10 like "Why Me" by Kris Kristofferson for example. The song peaked at #16 but it became the sixth biggest song of 1973 due to it charting for 38 weeks which was pretty rare for 70s singles.
@@masterdriver132 I understand mathematically how it happens. But to compare: >> “Don’t Talk To Strangers” - peak at No. 2 for four weeks, sixteen weeks in Top 40, twenty-one weeks in Hot 100. >> “Key Largo” - peak at No. 8 for two weeks, seventeen weeks in Top 40, twenty nine weeks in Hot 100. So if they award points for every week in the Hot 100, which is how I believe they tallied the year-end rankings, songs could (and did) rack up points by hanging around the bottom half of the Hot 100 chart. What doesn’t make sense to me is that a song would be considered “more popular” because it languished in the bottom half for a longer period of time. I would weight the scoring more heavily on Top Ten or Top 40 performance.

Very close to the 70's sound with far less disco/funk/upbeat R&B. A return in the past. UK was more creative. Luckely, thriller album was on works to be released

These songs really bring back so many memeries from a simper time ! The 80,s still rule !
The splendid music of the 80s ! and just warming up here for what was yet to come !!! glad I was a kid growing up with the best music ever ♡♡♡
I miss the early 80s so much it makes me cry
1980-1983
Now this is where the true essence of the 80s begins!
Yes, I agree. It started with Men at Work as far as I can remember but 82 still had Air Supply. Still I take 1981 as the best year for pop music all time.
If the Big 80’s was the best decade for music then 1982 was the best year.
So like what 2011 was to the 2010s?
Lol, not at all.
Both 1981 and 1982 were transitional years.
Agree the times they were a changin
1982: The year the 80s truely started. After a bore of 1980 and 1981, 1982 brought the 80s into motion because of synths and ROCK!
True. Although there still seemed to be a few last gasps of the 70s era in this year as well (Such as "Through the Years", "Cool Night" and "Oh No")
While in turn songs such as "Don't you want me" , "I Ran", and "Vacation" could have only come from the 80s.

Where,s Foreigner Waiting for a girl like you not in 1981?
At the time Billboard used a November 1-October 31 chart year so it had its peak in the 1982 chart year
These rankings never make sense to me.
But to compare:
>> “Don’t Talk To Strangers” - peak at No.
AGREED, EDGE OF SEVENTEEN-100 come on Stevie Nicks that song was number 1. Was that due to song release date? 1981?
@@robertmccain524 Edge of Seventeen peaked at No.11 April ‘82 on Billboard’s Hot 100 which this survey is based on.
@@jayo.7086 They did. A song at no.1 was awarded 100 pnts, a song at no.100 got 1 pnt.

My list:

Oops
Saw Crosby Stills and Nash Wasted on the Way at # 52 or 53. What about Southern Cross from the same album? I guess this top 100 is more about pop music than real music. #1 Let’s get Physical. Oh my aching back!
Its the billboard hot 100 year end not necessarily the best songs

Does anyone know why “It’s Raining Men” by Weather Girls isn’t on this list? It was a major #1 hit in 1982. I’m just curious to find out.
Looks like it peaked at #46 so would be less than that the rest of the year, dropping it off the 100 songs with best chart performance.
In 1982
Michael Landon =46 years old
Dudley Moore = 47 years old
Michael Jackson =24 years old
Paula Abdul = 20 years old
Tiffany =11 years old
Lorene Greene = 67 years old
Frank Sinatra =67 years old
Very close to the 70's sound with far less disco/funk/upbeat R&B. A return in the past. UK was more creative. Luckely, thriller album was on works to be released
