And I'm very much missing the extravagance of jewelry. I miss the rings on both men and women and the massive necklaces. The crowns are the only thing left. Even the beaded head wrap crowns the girls wore are missing. Also many of the hats and turbins are missing their decorations as well. It even looks to me that the dresses have gotten much more British style than the ones in the previous series.
I have noticed too. Costumes are more European. I miss the robes and long tunics. They were beautiful too. Hatice and Mihidevron sometimes wore European style gowns too,though.
Bad decision, though, imo. I mean, I'm all for historical accuracy. But if you do it, you have to do it right. And Kosem's dresses especially, look like prom dress versions of something vaguely 17th century. She isn't wearing the correct undergarments and the materials and colors are all wrong. It works better on Safiye, because she actually seems to be wearing stays (a type of early corset). Which gives her torso the appropriate conical form and smooth outline.
Don’t even start on dresses and jewellery! Ahmed is wearing the red caftan of Selim in the last two episodes of the previous series, Ahmed gave Kosem the necklace of Hattice, later worn by Gulfem, and Ahmed is wearing the ruby ring given to Ibrahim, Safiye is wearing a tiara worn by Hurrem. Not only that, Handan Sultan is wearing the dress of Hurrem when her spy committed suicide after trying to kill Mustafa! Continuity is a problem in both series!
