I got so carried away I played one verse too many!
This is a beautiful hymn and perhaps the most frequently requested in my experience as an organist. I'm playing here at St Martin's, showing off as many colours as I can on this glorious instrument. I hope you enjoy it and please subscribe to my weekly uploads. If you like, request a hymn in the comments.
Check out the specification of St Martin's organ here: www.benmatonmu...
If you enjoy my playing feel free to leave me a google review at g.page/r/CRpyf.... I'm a freelance musician so it helps!

Lovely, fabulous job. When I was a little girl, Granny always cried when this hymn was played. Now I am old and I understand why.

Abide with me, fast falls the eventide
The darkness deepens Lord, with me abide
When other helpers fail and comforts flee
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me
Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day
Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away
Change and decay in all around I see
O Thou who changest not, abide with me

Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness
    Where is death's sting?
    Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me
Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies

I heard this hymn being sung in the war movie, "A Bridge Too Far" when wounded British paratroopers sang this song that they were being taken prisoner by the Germans.

    [V1]
    [V2]
    Le flot des jours rapidement s'écoule ;
    Leur gloire est vaine et leur bonheur déçoit ;
    Tout change et meurt,
    tout chancelle et s'écroule...
    [V6]
    Je ne crains rien quand ton bras me protège ;
    Mes pleurs n'ont plus d'amertume, et l'effroi
A disparu... Seigneur, reste avec moi !
    [V7]
    L'ombre s'enfuit, voici l'aube éclatante !...

Here are the lyrics in english and croatian:
Ostani sa mnom, brzo pada večer
Abide with me, fast falls the eventide
Tama se produbljuje Gospodine, sa mnom ostani
The darkness deepens Lord, with me abide
Kad drugi pomagači zakažu i utjehe pobjegnu
When other helpers fail and comforts flee
Pomoć nemoćnih, o, ostani sa mnom
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me
Swift do kraja istječe životni mali dan
Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day
Zemaljske radosti se gase, njena slava nestaje
Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away
    Promjenu i propadanje posvuda vidim
Change and decay in all around I see
O Thou who changest not, abide with me
I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless
Bolesti nemaju težinu, a suze nemaju gorčinu
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness
    Gdje je žalac smrti?
    Where is death's sting?
    Gdje, grobe, tvoja pobjeda?
    Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me
Drži svoj križ pred mojim očima koje zatvaram
Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes
Sjaj kroz tminu i uputi me prema nebu
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies
Jutro neba sviće, a zemaljske sjene bježe
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee
U životu, u smrti, Gospodine, ostani sa mnom
In life, in death, o Lord, abide with me
Ostani sa mnom, ostani sa mnom
Abide with me, abide with me

Excellent example of how to get different colours from a 2-manual instrument. I'd guess there are easily twice as many again. I was hoping for a verse with lots of suspensions (on most notes!), but this would probably not be appreciated by an accompanying choir. Lovely tempo, not dirgy.

Wait till you play this piece on an organ that's well over 10 times larger than the organ you were playing. It's got 33,112 pipes and 449 ranks. It's the midmer losh located at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City New Jersey USA

Absolutely awesome performance! Looks like RUclips has decided to keep me crying tears of joy today. I just finished watching this little boy @ashthelittlemaestro play & sing this hymn with his mom & here I am!
