- 15 year old Annie Kasprzak had always dreamed of having a family which led her to lie about her pregnancy, but when this lie spiralled out of control she felt she had no choice but to runaway. The next day her body was found in a nearby lake, leading to a murder investigation that was full of twists and turns.

It blows my mind that they didn't look more into the boyfriend in the start. As soon as he gave this explanation of blood on his shoe i was like "nope!"
35:21
LITERALLY. It’s such a obvious, convenient lie.
I have second hand embarrassment for the first detectives
I honestly feel like this case displays white privilege at its core.. they dismissed the obvious lead to go track down a random hispanic man who had no prior relationship to Annie. Just terrible
Exactly! The nose bleed reference was so suspicious considering her nose was completely gone when she was found. This guy is truly disturbing.
Anyone who can commit a murder like that at the age of 14 should NEVER be getting out of prison
The dad also rang the police and said LJ drove by their house. The dad knew. The family knew. They should also be held accountable. 😢
Exactly.. and how did the police not question him again for a description. No doubt sending them on another wild goose chase, but inevitably winding back at chris as they’re not smart enough to conjure up a believable enough story
Why weren't his Dad and Grandma charged 😡
Anyone who lies during the course of a criminal investigation needs to be fined, if not imprisoned. That needs to be a law everywhere.
Isn't there? I mean, I would be chocked if she didn't faced legal consequences.
Fined? Jail immediately!
it is a law everywhere, it’s just not enforced
Countries Couldn't keep up to it, there are already too many people in jail/ prison. During covid Northern ireland let lower risk offenders out. Early, there was a stupid amount that had to be taken back In. Now, if that's what happened with low risk ones ....
Agreed. Chris's dad and grandma should have to do time too. They knew perfectly well that he wasn't there and lied anyways
The moment that woman says “they changed her into red clothes… red shirt, red and white shoes” I knew for sure she was lying! How could they change her into clothes her parents had bought her a month prior?!
Terrible detective work! 🤦🏼♀️
I picked up on that too bc….. how would the parents recognise the clothing if they weren’t hers. Seems like they were just looking to close the case with the strong evidence against Daniel. I hope she got true punishment for lying and on top of the crimes she was trying to get off on.
and why would they change her clothes in the first place? you don’t often hear about cases where that happens unless the k!ller is a sicko who keeps trophies
The brutality from such a young person to a young woman who already had a hard life seems inhuman. The nature of the murder a shovel repeatedly to the face suggests a fierce hatred, it’s a wild over reaction, who beats a girl to death over a possible pregnancy? This should have been no worse than an argument and separation, he’s a monster✌️❤️🇬🇧
out of the MANY true crime girlies on YT, Bella has to be one of my faves
Bella, Stephanie Harlowe (her own RUclips channel as well as her podcast Crime Weekly with Derrick Lavassior) and EWU are my favs! Who else do you like?
Yessss❤ her tone of voice and manner of speaking hits perfectly for my tinnitus filled self.
Yes her genuine tone of voice and composure is my favorite part of her content. I love her channel so much out of all the true crime girlies around.

is one of my favourites besides Bella 😊
@@SamanthaLeigh7- you will also love Samantha Melanie who discusses Australian cases.
"sorry for everything that HAPPENED", sir, don't you mean everything YOU DID?!?!!
omg I thought the same! like no you need to express how sorry you are for what you did and you cant even do that!
He doesn't deserve freedom ever again. That was such a brutal, lengthy, personal way to murder someone you "love" for a stupid reason. What a dangerous monster to so quickly resort to that. RIP Annie
We all know why the cops let this boy off the hook and instead zeroed in on a random Puerto Rican drug addict
Yup 😒
So true 🤦♀️
literally though as soon as she showed a picture of detective moore i was like yup i trust her she’ll get the job done
Why?
@@7la716because he’s white, they’re obviously gonna put the blame on a coloured person. ACAB
Veronica sounds like such an amazing mother 💔 especially when she talked at the hearing
i was so convinced it was daniel just for that lady to be LYING for REVENGE???????? and to make it worse it was technically the truth about a different kidnapping… Wtf
yeah i hope she got charged as well
How??? I knew she was lying the whole time because the story sounds so far fetched.
@@aromaladyelliegood for you lmao. What do you want? Even the cops didn’t. You’re not better than anyone else. Who cares lmao
I’m actually shocked that his family wasn’t charged too!
What an awful story. That poor girl 😢 Sleep Sweet in the Sky Miss Annie.
I also agree that Chris' Father and Grandmother should have been charged.
They should have been charged with accessory cause they literally covered for him. It’s insane that they weren’t charged.
Your advocacy for victims especially young girls is always so inspiring. Please consider covering the case of Sarah Gonzales-McLinn out of Lawerence Kansas. It’s truly mind blowing and gives you a devastating reality check for the state of the american criminal justice system. Sarah is currently awaiting a decision on her petition for clemency & no one I watch has covered her case, it could only help to have more eyes on what’s happening to her to this day
Just looked into her case and I'm absolutely enraged. What the fuck.
I don't beleive he should ever get out of prison. This is one of the most horrendous murders I've ever heard of. Everyone is safer with people like him kept behind bars.
People like this should never get out of jail for what he did he deserves life in prison
I agree, he should never get out of prison. He has no remorse and he shows it by going on with his life as normal and acting like he cared about her after committing such a brutal act. The two years after her murder should be the only free time he gets for the rest of his life!! My prayers go out to the family. Thanks for covering this case, I actually haven’t heard it before today.
I'm sorry but the initial investigators were so incompetent. I'm so happy that the second detective was way better! That boyfriend is some kind of psychopath, and his dad and grandma should have been charged. RIP Annie
I hope they charge both Chris's father, grandmother And the girl who claimed she saw her murder to the full extent of the law!!! The case could have been solve long before if it wasn't for them!
I also hope Chris Never gets out, he sounds like a complete psycopath
Only 15 years?? That’s crazy!!! wtf?!
I live in Salt Lake City and I’m a true crime junkie. I’ve never heard of this case and I’m shocked because I constantly look up Utah cases. Thank you for covering this.
How was the family not charged with anything?
"Doesn't know him from a bar of soap." 😂🤣 I've only ever heard you say that!! 😂
Came here to say the same 😂 we say didn’t know him from Adam!
I was thinking this too! I knew I’d heard her use the term before lol.
I think it might be an Aussie saying
i’m aussie it’s definitely an aussie saying 🤭 didn’t even blink an eye when bella said it ahahah
@@mollykathleen9059 Same! I didn't realise it's not a thing elsewhere.
im so confused why they didnt think more into about the blood on the shoe. how did he get her blood from her nose, on his shoe?
I knew it was Chris immediately. She loved him so much, why would she run off with this LJ person and tell Chris all about her relationship with him. How awful. The way he did it is so brutal it’s obvious there is something missing from his soul. Rip Annie 💕
Literally just came here to check if you had a new video out. You read my mind.
Same 🫣
Why are close relatives allowed to be taken as alibis? Wouldn't there be a conflict of interest? There should be a third party objective person to corroborate any alibis who are closely related. Why would you trust them just because of their words? And the blood spots Chris had, why would that not put you on alert? Honestly, police sometimes don't do a good job.
Horrific and devastating.I absolutely, unequivocally agree that the grandmother and father needed to be charged as well.poor Annie
Her parents are outstanding people. It was poetic how/why they spread her ashes so she would seem to be wherever they were. I agree this guy seems irredeemable. Horrific.
I honestly think anyone with common sense could've solved this one and I've zero experience at being a detective.... glad someone finally done their job properly.
Her family seem so lovely.
Rest easy Annie ❤
Bella plsss we need a Mystery Monday and Solved Saturday, I am almost done with all of your videos! I need more! 😩😂❤️
What a ridiculous crime! Truly!! 😢 poor Annie. Literally, she only wanted acceptance and love.
This case is so awful. That poor girl had such a hard life and had finally settled in to a loving and healthy family. She was going to succeed in life, she was going to end up with her own baby and family one day. It’s so horrible that her wish for her own child led to her death. The fact that she legitimately just wanted to love a baby of her own one day, to give them the childhood she wish she’d had, the childhood a kid deserves, and her dipshit boyfriend acted on impulse over information that had absolutely no confirmation… it’s just so sad. I can’t believe how brutal he was at such a young age, to someone he was suppose to live and cherish and care so deeply about. I hope he never gets out of prison. And I hope the other inmates show him what they think about people who do things like he did.
I live in salt lake and remember this happening. I was around the same age as Annie at the time so my parents didn’t tell me many details. You covered the case so well and I am astonished that the police missed what was right under their nose the whole time!!
Ridiculous that it took 2 years for them to dig deeper into the phone records 😔
Also…Cracks me up when you say ‘wouldn’t know them from a bar of soap’…Never heard that before 😂
It’s such an Australian thing to say! I say it say it all the time 😂
@@jesselliott2481 Haha really…I’m in the U.K and I’ve never heard it…My neighbour is Australian so I’m going to ask him if he says it 😂
starting to really love Mondays again!!!
Wait, so NO CHARGES were placed on the dad and grandmother?
This is such a sad story, she was only 15 😢
12:55 It's so sad how badly she thought having a baby so young would bring her closure and happiness.
I live 10 minutes away from where this case takes place and I’m bamboozled I’ve never heard of this
Same
I immediately thought it was Chris when you said his dad and grandma were his alibi. Weird that the first officer didn’t look deeper into that but RIP to him and sending love to the officer’s family. Agreed, there’s no fixing the lack of empathy and how easily he brutally killed Annie with no remorse. I hope they don’t give him parole when it’s time to decide.
During my last employment i briefly worked with kids who are/were in state custody. The topic of pregnancy and wanting a family stuck out to me. It is so prevalent with these young girls. I feel like the system doesn‘t do enough to address this. Many girls eventually do get pregnant (often by significantly older men) and sadly often times their kids turn back up in the care system, because these kids having kids don‘t have adequate ressources, experience nor support in childcare and life in general.
So basically this (understandable) wish of belonging and a family makes these young girls very vulnerable to even more abuse.
I understand that he was only 14 but he still went along with his life years later like nothing happened. He clearly showed no remorse and had everyone around him go along with a lie. If he shows no remorse for killing his own girlfriend in such a brutal way, it wouldn’t be surprising if he would do it again.
Kudos to the lady detective who went beyond the normal call of duty to educate herself to the point where she could understand the clues she had. That's dedication. Bella, I would also say, you should watch the film, , because you asked why the detectives would just take Chris's word for what happened and not even look into it. That film addresses that phenomenon.
They looked at her phone records at the start and didnt think to look into the blocked numbers THEN?
Yuck jesus that poor girl. The brutality of what he did is shocking, disgusting
I don’t understand how detectives didn’t look at boyfriend’s phone records in the beginning. To have hard confirmation of his dad and grandma statement. Instead of taking their word for it as confirmation. This case would have been solved much sooner and not detectives time wasted.
I work with her adoptive grandmother in Salt Lake. Watching them go through the trial was heartbreaking to put it mildly. 💔. Also the 5 kids they adopted after are all siblings from a bad situation. They were all under the age of 10 when they were adopted. ❤
Completely agree with you that he doesn't deserve to be free ever again. He literally lied to everyone his role in all of this for over a year and murdered his girlfriend in such a horrific way over a rumor. At 14, of course everyone makes dumb choices. But I just feel like murder is one of those crimes where charging someone as a juvenile shouldn't even be a thing.
Bella pleaaaaaase do podcasts so it’s easier to listen in the car etc ❤
Hi Bella! I love your videos and would just like to request more content representing stories of Black and brown people especially women who don’t get as much visibility in mainstream media. Lots of Black and indigenous women in the US in particular going missing who don’t get much coverage. Thank you 🫶🏾
If LJ was Chris all along who was Layton that Annie named in her diary? If she was writing all about Chris in her diary, why would she change his name to Layton in her own diary that only she reads? (Before her murder) Also: why did Chris’ dad call police and say LJ was driving past his house threatening Chris yet no one could identify him or what he looked like. How could LJ threaten Chris in real life with Chris not knowing what he looked like? Or what kind of car he was driving past his house? So much of this doesnt add up, how could detectives not question that?
this case really had me on my toes the whole time. i can’t believe they didn’t target Chris from the beginning. i also can’t believe the cold heartedness by the liars in this case. the fact that sub humans walk this earth and can lie like this in the jeopardy of loved ones and the victim themselves is just beyond me. rest in peace to sweet Annie
Such a tragic case. It shocks me that the police fell for all the lies that Chris' family and friends were telling, but still I hate that David guy what a POS.
Police dropped the ball, grandparents need to be charged, rip annie
I remember when this happened. She was so young. Knowing that her boyfriend ended her life at such a young age. Super crazy.
You are So right Bella !! He should never get out How sad for annie
man that is a f'd up way to kill some one😭😭 so sad for annie :(
Living in Herriman Utah and working at summit academy in Draper draws me closer to the case. Holy cow
The detectives seriously bought that nosebleed theory?😑🤦🤦♀️🤦♂️
Thank you Bella to another yet informative eye opening case!
My heart weeps. Utterly trajic what happened to this child.
Hey!! I love your channel so much!! Please cover the case of Lorenzo Ahmed González Cacho. A little boy from Puerto Rico murdered in his home while his mother and two sisters were there. Crazy theories. Most believed it was his mom and bf. His sister or her bf. Her other sister. He fell. It’s a whole twist. I’ve lived through the whole thing and there’s even been songs made about it.
The problem is with cases like this is the person that diverted the police for a year got what sentence probably nothing. The parents got what sentence? Probably nothing. If you dont convict people like that then others will always do the same. The parents are monsters lying for chris. Also how did nobody bother to check the phone records earlier what a joke
Hi! I was wondering what happened to last week’s video?
same! It disappeared halfway through me watching it:(
same 😢
Me too!
Great coverage. Told with compassion. This is the first video of yours I’ve seen. I am a new subscriber!
29:21 for real they waited over a year to check her phone records?? That's insane...it sounds like the PD didn't have much money to throw around on investigation, but I'm sure they could have gotten help from the state.
Bella you’re the best, you do any amazing job making these videos 💕
12 minutes in and I’m kinda freaking out at how close to home this is for me…. My family moved to Riverton Utah in 2008 and I know so many people who went to summit…. I’m 3 years younger than Annie but I’m very curious to see if I knew her or any of her family members, even though I have never heard of this case….
Great Drama Bella. RIP Annie, may the Angels give you wings to fly
Can I just say… the SECOND you put up his photo I was like, yeah, it was him…! I don’t like to judge, but he just looked off..!! Also, It baffles me that the police just didn’t investigate him further… after watching a zillion true crime stories, we’ve all learned:
- always look into the partner thoroughly!
- alibis provided by your closest family members are not AIRTIGHT..! Like “The dad said he was home asleep”. Oh ok, great, he’s free then?! What? Of course your close family members might lie for you…! If that’s ALL you have.. it’s not an airtight alibi! We’ve seen this so often!
- and the nail in the coffin for me: when someone voluntarily and immediately gives the cops information/explanation upfront, to something the cops haven’t asked or haven’t found out yet, it’s often an admission of guilt! Example: “oh by the way, if you find blood in my shoes by any chance, yeah she had a nose bleed..” duuuude, So obvious!
I was so confused with all the LJ and the gang members and whatever.. I kept screaming at my phone “what are you doing! It’s the boyfriend! Go back to that little shit boyfriend!!”
Sometimes I’m shocked at what detectives do or don’t do… 🤦🏻♀️
He said that all of her friends were telling her to avoid someone who the friends never even mentioned to the cops, and they bought that? What the actual fuck?
Such BS. He doesn't care about atoning for what he did; I definitely believe his lawyer recommended he plead guilty & act remorseful so they could try to get a lighter sentence.
I hope Annie's family can find some peace now that he's been caught.
Please make a video about Samantha Murphy who has been missing for 3 days in Melbourne !!!
This one is heartbreaking 😢❤❤
I don't remember this case, but granted, I was busy with starting Uni in 2012. But ... wow. 45 minutes from where I lived.
I know some lil foster girls my family is taking care of. My heart bleeds for them listening to this case one even looks so much like her. It’s so tragic not enough kids get the parents they truly deserve
Just press the thumbs up people. The amount of time it takes out of your busy day is point too many zeros to bother looking up. You know you liked it you clicked on here with the expectation of a specific experience which you definitely received bc there's not exactly a lot of formula surprises with these.
That Joenna person leaves me speechless.
I know telling lies is meant to be a ‘bad trait’ but I feel so sorry for her for feeling the need to say she was pregnant in the first place and she did not deserve what happened to her :(
I’m loving the regular uploads - and in UK time now! Did Bella take down last week’s video? xx
Yes. I fell asleep when I last watched it and went to rewatch but couldn’t find it hahaa. Heartbroken😔x
What a monster. R.I.P. Annie
Good afternoon Bella and everyone. This is so such as sad story....R.I.P. beautiful, fly free now😢😢❤️
i’m just starting the video, bout shouts out to veronica and all social service/child protection workers who actually care about the people they’re supposed to help.
I knew it was him as soon as he said he went for a 'walk' or something and had no alibi for like an hour...
Chris almost got away with murder, because the police was too busy. Looking for a suspect that may not existed, wasn’t for this new detective look at Chris.
He would’ve got away with it for good, the case would’ve gone cold and probably. And won’t have been solve, thanks to this new detective.
Finally gave justice to her family and friends.
I swear all police/detective training needs to include watching true crime cases on a daily because I feel we all call things and who it is before finding out due to our interest and watching these videos
I am screaming duhhhh so loud about the bf right now, get it together coppers 🤦♀️
chris’ dad literally lied about Lj coming to their house and threatening chris. So firstly, he must have known his son committed a crime if not that he murdered someone. And secondly, how did the police not question his dad again for a description of Lj as he claimed to have seen him……… idk… it’s just stupid
This happened in my town and I have never even heard about it!😢
Shouldn't he also get charged for attempted murder of an unborn baby that he thought was alive!?
As soon as you said his full name i knew it 😂😂
Still a very sad case. RIP annie.
Oops accidentally posted uncompleted message, sorry, just woke up ( 6.15am Melbourne Time ) meant to be getting ready for the days but seen your video, so glad to see this video Thanks Bella your the best 💞💞
Hi Bella! Love love your content!
This case is heart breaking!
This could’ve been solved in 5 minutes. Wow
U don’t walk all the way to ur friends house unless u know they are home.
I think grandma, Chris's dad and police been through off because he was 14, they probably thought he just young stupid teenage he couldn't do smt like this, so they cover up and police believed
