      This is correct - I am Masters support Bap and Illari and when I play qp with my new friend we screw around and have fun, but if he starts dying too much/having a bad time I switch to Bap. Rare to lose a team fight when I do - his damage, AOE heals and saving ability with immortality field (not to mention how good window is) means we rarely use a team fight. USE HIS JUMP PASSIVE people. you can change levels/win so many 1v1s simply by jumping

    My tip is, if you're not comfortable aiming from afar or good at it then play a different hero. This until you get use to the point of *Every hero has an advantage at certain distance.*

  • @Real_MisterSir
    @Real_MisterSir Год назад +9

    Something very fundamental about positioning that people should learn, is this:
    1) Bad positioning is when the enemy has a convenient way of punishing you.
    2) Good positioning is when you have a convenient way of punishing the enemy.
    3) Neutral positioning is when nobody has an advantage, but at least you are not mentally pressured and are thus in a mental space to make good decisions and provide fundamental value to your team without dipping into high risk/reward situations.
    If you learn how to analyze the positions you're in based on the above simple metrics, then you will intuitively build your ability to improve your positioning in general with all heroes. It's pretty neat and looks simple when put into words, but in practice most people are too overwhelmed by information and shifting play and tempo to properly understand and practice it. Being conscious about it is the first step, everything past that is simple learning by doing.

    I hope this doesn't come off as trash talking gameplay. Mine is horrible, and I know things I can do to improve, but never really find time to make good habits except while I'm playing. To play a team game and when matchmaker is working correctly....... It will most pair you with people that make similar mistakes preventing most to climb. For a team support player, its seems you are only playing to support your self and what is directly in front of you when you are not DPSing, then throw the bad positioning on top of it, with the luck of the opponents mistake of being not such good aim. The stats provide a window of the end achievement, but no the entire picture of decision making. Did your stats improve for damaging the Moria killing your echo? YES. Did you have an additional player for the incoming team fight? NO. I'll get a lot of negative feedback, but most supports players primary role is keeping the team up with their available healing kit. (Obviously very few in the non support category have these health kits) I used to play a lot of ana, and have been questioned by friends watching me play, about not taking the finishing shot on an enemy damaging my teammate. Where my teammate was also one hit away from dying. Choosing the heals, while hoping my teammate can get the kill is possibly going to give us a 1 player advantage. If I took the last shot there would be a better chance my teammate would die, the teams would then be balance and we lose the advantage. It is situational, but I think you should focus helping the right people on your team more. The positioning should come a bit more natural as you are more likely to die while doing so, forcing you to pick better cover. Please by all means don't "blame" your team, I play for fun, and winning can make it a bit more fun, but I don't take it seriously. Unless they are obviously throwing, they may be as skilled as you were yesterday. You can always ask why they did something, share different views, improve from each other.

    As a Baptiste player I am shaking in my seat from some of these cooldown uses. Here’s some things I noticed.
    Baptiste has some very strong abilities that are easy to both underutilize and overuse. Thinking about your position in relation to your teammates when using them is one of the core parts of his kit. Especially when it comes to immortality lamp. While bronze players aren’t going to be the first to bait out abilities, you still need to think “If I use this now, what can I not use it for while it’s on cooldown later?”
    And also falling into the trap of just always aiming at the ground to heal. Yes, it has AOE. But you will heal so much more with direct hits so it’s worth it to get better at those. Especially when you’re healing a tank! They’re big, they’re easier to get a direct hit on!

    • @harm0ny_
      @harm0ny_ Год назад +1

      Also use your mobility more! He has those boots, use them! The lamp can save you from most ults. But so can just jumping away. You can get out of LOS of so many ultimates by jumping to a position they can’t reach.
      Also, you don’t need to look where you’re jumping. Know the map. If you know there’s somewhere to jump to just charge your boots as you’re healing/shooting and jump when they’re charged. It only takes a few seconds of not focusing on the fight for things to go wrong. This didn’t happen too much, but in the times it did it’s very apparent that focus shifted from the fight to moving, but it doesn’t have to. Multitask as Baptiste!

    a huge issue i see with this player is they use their abilities sometimes in lieu of primary healing when that's just a waste of very powerful abilities. they use lamp and regenerative burst in an attempt to make up for their mistakes and inattention to their team's hp. that's not good. regenerative burst is excellent for AOE healing in response to burst damage or to heal multiple people when they're critical and you can't use primary to splash healing on all of them. lamp is basically a mini defensive ult that can be used to counter so many things. if you're just throwing it out because you fucked up and weren't paying attention to your team, then you're not going to have it to actually save anyone or turn around a team fight.
    I think this person could maybe get to silver 5 but not higher than that. they're very lost, imo, they don't have a plan for handling team fights or a sense of priority for supporting their team. they wouldn't survive in gold, imo, because they're not able to keep their team up under the chaotic non-pressure of bronze. gold is when things begin to be more coordinated and they're just not ready for that.
    11:20 you really gotta stop staring at the floor, as seen before this death. you're limiting your ability to see what's going on around you. denying yourself information by default prevents you from trying to make good decisions because you cant make a good decision if you don't have a sense of what's going on. good supports always have their head on a swivel, they're checking for flanks so they can ping and alert their enemies. they're listening for footsteps. they're checking on their whole team to see who needs help. the more you look around, the better equipped you will be for making better decisions with your positioning and priorities.
    20:18 yes this was a good play, but if you hadn't made a million mistakes up to this point, the game would be over already.

    This was an interesting watch for me as a bronze three bap myself.
    I would say there were close to zero similarities in this guys positioning to my own. How can you heal your team when you're standing in the open on the point with them all game? If you're up high on an off angle you can shoot the enemies better and heal your team better and most importantly of all just be more aware of what's happening.
    Mechanical skill probably similar, possibly mine is slightly worse, but then I've had the game less than a month I think.
    I love how he did 15k healing (apparently, I can't work out when), and is being widely criticised for not healing enough. I've literally never done 15k healing with bap. I don't remember ever out healing my damage tbh, though they're often close.
    There were two plays that I can 100% picture myself making. Firstly, when he shot the Moira instead of healing his Echo. My problem here is that idk how you heal the Echo here, because he had no cooldowns and he was standing on top of her, so how does he heal her? By the time you move away from the Echo so you can heal her, is she not dead already? This is why I try to always avoid being in the middle of my team. The second play is the PotG (side note, the fact he thought him getting the PotG is noteworthy is just hilariously delusional lol). That play was just obvious and I literally make that sort of play all the time. It doesn't normally line up quite that well, but same thing.

  • @newtonthenewt1400
    @newtonthenewt1400 Год назад +2

    Yeah this person needs to improve in all facets of their gameplay if they want to climb out of bronze. One of the major ones is proper ability usage, since they were using their burst heal and lamp in completely random places, which resulted in them not being available when needed. Even then, sometimes this player wouldn't use those abilities when they were available to be used and when they were needed. Plus the bap pretty much never used window, which is quite a powerful and flexible ultimate which can be used for both damage and healing. Even if you aren't windowing for your team, it's enough to window for yourself to increase damage and/or healing output. They probably could have had an extra 2-3 windows if they actually used the ult.
    Also one of the biggest things about blaming teammates is you always know who's fault it is based on how they phrase it. If it's "my teammates are holding me back," they are usually bad themselves. Sure, some matches you have a braindead teammate who hard feeds or just really doesn't perform and makes it extremely hard to win (especially if that person is a tank), but you're not going to have that every match.
    Plus, think of it this way: the people in your matches create an average level of skill. If you're above that average, you are going to climb ranks over time. If you're at or below that average, you are going to stay hardstuck. If you aren't climbing, it's not your teammates' fault. It's your own. Pinning it on your teammates means that you aren't self-reflecting on your own gameplay and trying to improve yourself in order to climb. You're actively hindering yourself if you are blaming it on your teammates every match.

    I get that it was a meme and all to call those characters "supporters" and not "healers" because their job is to do more than just heal, but it feels like the pendulum has swung into the other direction and a lot of lower metal rank supports neglect to heal their teammates and wonder why their left alone in 1v5s all the time.

    I am silver 5 and I do notice a lot of teams ignore the back line and a lot of dps will run off across the map far beyond los. Are there things I can improve? Certainly, but some games you just cant hard carry as support. That doesn't mean you should waste time blaming your team though. Better to treat it as a learning experience to improve your own gameplay.

    But I wonder looking at players like that, can they even be coached to become decent (like at least diamond)? Where would you even start?
    Some bronzes you look at and think "yeah, there is potential here, they just need to work on things". Here though, literally everything seems hopelessly terrible.
    Is this improvable?

      @@neilmallick20 "this is gonna come off as dickish" then don't say it. if you think someone is gonna take something poorly, then why make it certain by saying that? same goes for "no offense but-" bc anything that comes after is automatically ten times more offensive.
      that's first of all. second, instead of sitting up there on your high horse like you're some peak example of a video gamer, why not offer suggestions? this comment you left is no better than someone smurfing and saying "get good" at the end of the game.
      and third, you are so wrong im actually sick to my stomach. yes, metal ranks are generally bad, but you CANNOT compare plat to bronze, full stop. it is a scale of skill and game sense, just like diamond to t500. do i sometimes mess up my positioning in high gold as a supp? yeah, sometimes. so do t500 supports. not nearly as much as i do, just as i don't mess up nearly as much as this bap did.
      this game has a ranking system for a reason, and your claim that metal ranks all make the same mistake is fundamentally a farse; your logic is flawed, and your intent is nothing more than a power trip. now get out of here, troll.
