Chris Baugh I got the foot switch online at T-H Marine. It kind of serves as a bypass or open circuit. When the switch is pressed it closes the circuit and powers the motor.
@@bassin9114 Thanks. I'm getting a sportsman 8 next week and your front deck has me thinking. I might make it a bit smaller so I can get to the tiller better on the seat behind the deck...... But the push button is just gold. Use your knee to change directions and toggle with foot. Great idea.

The inner foam is now water logged and makes the boat much heavier. I have stopped all upgrades because of this. Still great stuff you have done.

If you don't mind me asking what size battery are you using for your trolling motor ? I just recently purchased a Minn Kota 50lb. and I was wondering what size you have and run time that you get. Thank you for the video. Nice set-up !
Hey Steve thanks for the question! For what you’re doing just get a good 12v. I used an Everstart marine and used a smart charger for charging. It charged as well as maintained it while it was sitting. Hope this helps👍👍
Great video. Suggestion: You might want to raise your tail lights, when I tilt my 1 ton Harbor Freight tilt bed trailer, I bend up my licence plate & it keeps the taillights out of the water.
Thomas Garrison thanks for the compliment and comment! I’ve actually sold this particular boat already and I miss it! When I did have it I never used the tilt feature. I added submersible lights instead of the ones that came with the trailer so I could back it right down the ramp. Tight lines!
Just picked up the same boat, look forward to doing sone mods myself, curious to know about how much your rig weighs now after mods. Im going to carry it in truck bed and need to be able to get it in and out. 100 lbs as listed is manageable, I’m 77 and in decent shape
pgu876 appreciate your comment. So I ended up using about 1/2 sheet of 3/4 treated plywood for the deck and floor. The battery compartment front was 3/8. Add the compartment top plus the 2 batteries inside and it comes to around an additional 125-130 pounds. I bought the trailer and it works fantastic. I have a semi bad back and didn’t want to worsen it by loading it like you are thinking of but I think it would be manageable. You can cut some weight by only having 1 battery, (40 lbs) and not deck the floor or battery compartment. That alone should cut 60-70 pounds. Hope this helps sir and good luck! You’re gonna love it👍🏻
Mike Clark thanks for the question! I cut the floor to fit fairly tight once carpeted so I could remove it if needed, say to run power for graphs, lights etc. I actually had to re-run my graph power supply so it made it really easy to just lift it out. Sam Chan I appreciate the compliment! You will absolutely love this little boat. Unfortunately I’ve sold this boat and can’t give the exact dimensions. Hope this helps!
Great job man! Do you have plans for the deck construction posted somewhere? Just purchased one of these boats and can't wait to modify it. Your layout looks awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Bill Schnabel thanks so much for the compliment! No I don’t really have the plans posted anywhere but I do have another video on my channel that shows some still photos that you can make out how I did it. Think it’s called trickin out the sundolphin or something like that.
Mr. Skeptical thanks for the question. I’m sure you can use a smaller one. I went with a larger one because I ran and charged cameras while fishing as well as the Lowrance.
Shane Reffett thanks for watching! The bottom (floor) is cut to fit with just a small amount of wiggle room and was glued to the plastic floor of the boat. This gave me something to screw to without compromising the boat hull. The casting deck is cut to fit to span the width of the boat (from seat groove to seat groove) then I cut a center support to strengthen the center. This made the 2 separate storage compartments. Added the door and that was it. Thanks again for watching and I’d appreciate it if you subbed to my channel! Tight lines.
I plan on putting a pedistal seat on the deck, then a matching seat on one of the factory seat mounts i can take on and off. Won't go as serious on the battery box
Shane Reffett heck yeah man that’ll look great and be really functional. I’m about to do a video on putting a rudder on the back. It tends to swing around pretty easy so hopefully that will take care of that. Thanks for the sub brother!
Have you ever seen jon b's stuff. He has awesome poles and goes everywhere, but kinda cool fishing. Look me up on facebook we can bs about fishin though
Got my 3/4" plywood cut and in the boat but I made my casting deck 4' long. I'm thinking this may be a bit to big? Yours looks about 3' im guessing? Gonna order my footswitch today. Next step is to build my battery box in the back then gonna seal all my plywood and carpet it up. My kids gave me two weeks to get it done, LOL.
Bassin' 911 I think I'm gonna leave it at 4' for now until I get my battery box built and see how much room I have and make adjustments if needed. Yeah I'm dying to get this baby done and out on the water.
Bassin' 911 I took an old trolling motor and removed the motor and handle and put a Bullnose rudder on it. Seems to do the job. Its a bit smaller than yours though. Clamps on and adjust just lile a trolling motor so it's pretty nice.

Hey, how does the boat do with the extra weight from the 3/4" plywood? I have the rubber mats from a horse stall down now for the floor...it probably weighs more than the plywood to be honest. What are the front 2 pieces of wood glued to the boat for?
Jasont0625 thanks for the comment. To be honest, with the trolling motor I have the weight of the plywood has zero effect on the performance. Actually I had to install a diy rudder because the boat would spin when using the trolling. Definitely do the plywood with some carpet you’ll love it. As far as the pieces of wood at the front... if you are meaning the 2 2x2’s, they are gorilla glued to the hull to help support the platform on the front. The bottoms of them are toe screwed into the plywood floor. Hope that’s what you were asking😂. Thanks for the comment and sub if you don’t mind! Tight lines!
Just found your channel today. Love it! Got a question. What kind of glue did you use when you attached the wooden deck to your plastic boat. I’ve got a Pelican Bass Raider 10e and I want to raise the deck. Thanks Chuck
jayrough thanks for the compliment! The seats that come with the boat fit in the rail slide that is molded in the hull. The way I built the front deck I used the rail to help support the plywood decking but the rail is still usable towards the rear. I did use the seat a few times and worked great. You can also bolt a seat pedestal base and put a regular seat or bike seat on the front deck if you want one there. I appreciate the comment and question!
LGHNurse0911 thanks! I got it at Lowe’s. It’s a little pricey at $90 a box but it’s worth it. I also used the extra strong 3M spray adhesive along with it. The carpet tiles are 2’x2’ and are self adhesive👍🏻
I just finished my boat. I was all tickled and happy, now im like wtf? how much carpet do i have left? GREAT IDEAS! for mini bass boat conversions. Super clean lines. Well designed and thought out. No visible holes in plastic is a good thing. You clearly have bass boat experience and know what your going after. Im gonna grab a beer go back in the garage & extend my deck a little. Thanks man. I subbed now give us fishing vids. Do a vid of bait bubble box on that boat. Also Whats the toatal weight now do you think?
Mike C awesome man! I just replied to your other comment on my other video and thanks for the sub! Ummm, as far as weight now, I would say with the double batteries, decking etc., it probably added an additional 80-90 pounds? I may can get a weight for you and if so I'll comment. Ack here. Yeah I have bass boat experience as well. Not sure what you mean by a bait bubble box though? If I can do a vid to help you out I'll knock it out.👍🏻
Got my front deck all done and rear floor area. Made some storage areas. I'm doing the back battery box area, how did you attach those top rails to the boat for the lid? I see you used angle brackets inside to attach to the floor buy how did you do those rails?
Jasont0625 glad you’re coming along with it! I cut a true 1x1 poplar at the angles to make the turn and up onto the outboard mount area. Once you get them cut to fit, take some rough sand paper and roughen up the top rail of the boat where the boards will go. I glued them down with extra strength gorilla glue. Super strong hold.
Bassin' 911 same thing for the two front boards you attached to the floor? Yeah this is a lot of fun...looking at carpet now....not a lot of choices unless you order it online.
Jasont0625 yes exactly same as front. I wish I would’ve looked at more carpet but I just used the 2x2 self adhesive carpet tiles but added 3M adhesive spray with them. Little easier to cut and fit in the smaller places though.
Hey Joe. Thanks for the comment my friend. Unfortunately I don’t have any daylight vids of that boat. I actually don’t even own it anymore but it was a super little boat. I recently did a few good vids on another tiny boat if you haven’t checked them out.
canon Evans thanks for the question. No it doesn’t have an auto onboard charger. The Noco Genius distributes the voltage evenly between however many “banks” it has. This one is a 2 bank charger so you plug the female end of an extension cord into the male end of the Genius charger and it evenly charges both batteries on 1 cord.
@@bassin9114 oh ok. Do you know of any machines for boats that charge batteries like an alternator does for a car? I want to buy one of these little boats but I want the piece of mind of knowing that my batteries will stay juiced. Very nice mods on your boat tho!! How do you like it so far?
canon Evans I appreciate the compliments! I actually sold it but I loved every minute of using it. As far as an onboard charger, you would need an outboard to do that or some type of solar trickle charging system but to be honest, if you give a full nights charge on the batteries you will not run them dead with just a trolling motor unless you constantly run it. If that’s the case then you’re not fishing😂. Best of luck!
I just want to say thanks for your video I'm just looking for ideas for my dolphin that I just purchased from someone it needs a lot of work but I am sure I can get it looking super going to use a couple of your ideas good luck and God bless
706 Fishing I appreciate it and the sub! The trailer I used was a 4x8. I got a sheet of 3/4 marine grade plywood and screwed it to the trailer frame with self tapping screws and carpeted over it all. Works really well.
706 Fishing sorry wrong deck! There’s another video on my channel that is just stills of the build. I cut 3/4 marine plywood to fit between the seat rails and put a support piece out of 1x lumber. This supports the middle of the front deck and made 2 separate storage areas that I put a door on.
Bassin' 911 okay thank you! I’ve been trying for 5 months now to find a deck build that I like and yours is everything I’ve been looking for but I didn’t know where to begin and don’t really have anyone in my family that was willing to help. I’ll check out your other videos
Do you have any issues with the trailer floating on you when retrieving the boat since it has a plywood deck? I have the same trailer on order and plan on doing the same as you did.
George Faulk I appreciate the comment. No I haven’t had any issues with the trailer moving when loading. I back it in the water covering the back third of the trailer then I step on the front platform and pull the boat up with a rope. It works really well! I would appreciate a sub if you haven’t already. Thanks again and tight lines!
Cody Matthews thanks for the comment. I only used 1 sheet of plywood, and actually not all of it. Add the 2 batteries and it added around 130 pounds +\-
How much weight do you estimate added. I have the same boat and it says 440lbs for passengers. I have not modded my boat yet but the weight issue has been on my mind.
Don Woods thanks for the comment and the sub! I used a little less than 1 sheet of 3/4 treated plywood for the deck and floor. The battery box area is only 3/8. I would guess with the 2 batteries, the plywood and carpet it added around 100 pounds or so. I fish by myself in it so I didn’t pay any attention to the 440 lb weight limit. My trolling motor is a beast and pulls it like a champ. Thanks again for the comment and the sub👍🏻
Man, you did a really nice job with this boat. I was impressed by the attention to detail you put into your modifications..really nice! I wanted to know, do you fish from the back of it with the original seat that comes with the boat, or do have a seat on a stand for the deck?
curtes347 thanks so much for the comment and for the sub! No I don’t fish at the back any using the chair but there is room to do so. I currently do not have a seat on the front deck but I believe I am going to add one. Just a football seat to lean on is all I would need but there is room to add a regular seat if I wanted or needed to. Thanks again!
Cody Matthews yes pressure treated. The casting deck and floor is 3/4 but the front of the battery compartment is 3/8 or 1/2 I can’t remember. I know it’s not 3/4 because I wanted to keep the weight down. Yes all carpet is on plywood
Cody Matthews for me it was. The rear end seemed to want to swing away from the front when I used the trolling motor. It is a BEAST of a motor so it would really get sideways. The rudder almost completely stopped that.
Jasont0625 mine just had a spot that was molded for a battery to sit in. I don’t think mine had tie downs. But I just laid the 3/4 ply all the way from the front of the boat to the back so I’d have a nice and level area to start with and to be able to screw to without compromising the hull.
Kyle Brown thanks for the comment! No I sure don’t have the measurements because I measured as I went. Sorry about that. I’d appreciate a sub if you can! Tight lines ✌🏼

wayne mitchell yeah great buy for sure! Like I said my friend has one and loves it and when mine is working, more times than not, it is a great unit. Tight lines man!
Brad Foll thanks for the question and the sub! I believe it was the commercial/construction grade or heavy duty. Couldn’t find the tube to make sure. I’m sure the original would be fine but I just got the best/durable one they had at Lowe’s. Thanks again!
Thank you sir! I'm looking at doing this same thing with a Sportsman 8 that I just purchased. I hope you don't mind the questions, I'm sure I will have more as I go forward with the project so please bare with me. Another question has to do with the routing of the power cable for your graph. did you use the existing port for the factory power wires and fish it yourself or did you route it differently? Thanks again!
Brad Foll no worries about the questions! I spliced more wire to the graph power wires so I would have enough to reach the batteries in the back. I ran the wires underneath the floor 3/4 ply in the grooves. Hope this helps!
Cody Matthews no sorry I don’t but there is an earlier video that I did with some stills that pretty much shows how I did it. If you have any questions just hit me up. I’ll help you all I can👍🏻
monte clark the boat came with 2 seats that I didn’t use. I bass fish exclusively so the only thing remotely close to sitting I do is leaning on a bike seat but I did not add one to this boat. However there was ample room to sit if I wanted.
sparkydoggg1 thanks for the comment. Actually there is a little less than 1 sheet of plywood on the boat. After I added it and the 2 batteries it may have added 80 pounds to the boat. I’m about 185 pounds and I have zero issues with weight. The trolling motor pulls that boat like I’m not even in it.
sparkydoggg1 you won’t regret it one second. I caught some huge fish over the last year from mine including my personal best, 8.1 so snatch you one up. I would recommend putting a rudder on the back if you run yours like I did. I have a video on a rudder design I came up with and it worked great. Keep me posted! Tight lines my friend!
nice mod BUT, the boat weight Capacity: 550 lbs, you got 3 batteries, extra wood and what not , ontop of your weight!, that lil boat is maxxed out OR OVER WEIGHTED!
Peter Swollen just saw this comment I’m sorry! Thanks for commenting. As far as the weight, all the mods I did added about 130 pounds. There are 2 batteries and I only used about 1/2 sheet of plywood for the deck and the battery box front I used a 2x4 piece of 3/8 birch. It weighs less than if I had someone fishing with me so it is still way within the weight limits. Thanks again.
Michael Wyant how bout you buy a camera and editing software, spend $1,500 on a boat and materials to do what i did and film something during the day so the other 29,000+ people that viewed it and didn’t have a problem with lighting can see it. That sounds better to me🙄
Just found your channel today. Love it! Got a question. What kind of glue did you use when you attached the wooden deck to your plastic boat. I’ve got a Pelican Bass Raider 10e and I want to raise the deck. Thanks Chuck
Charles Faulkner thanks so much! I used the heavy duty gorilla glue and scuffed up the surface of the plastic before sticking them. It worked great for me. You can also use small diameter wood screws on the upper plastic parts such as the rails and top edge but obviously not the bottom. Good luck with your project and if you have any other questions just let me know! Thanks for subbing too! Tight lines✌🏼

Bassin' 911 subscribed yesterday! Thanks again...
Jasont0625 just saw that lol my bad!! Thanks so much
Just found your channel today. Love it! Got a question. What kind of glue did you use when you attached the wooden deck to your plastic boat. I’ve got a Pelican Bass Raider 10e and I want to raise the deck.
Thanks
Chuck
Where do you put your seats? This is prob the best I have ever seen I want a boat but really dont want to spend thousands on a bass boat
jayrough thanks for the compliment!
@@bassin9114 I subscribed to your channel I am really looking forward to seeing more from you. Do you have a video of you fishing out of this beauty?
jayrough I really appreciate that. Yes pretty much every video I shot other than pond fishing was out of the sundolphin.
Where did you get your carpet? Looks clean tight corners.
Bassin' 911 love that idea!!!
Fantastic!
Don Smith thank you!!
Any videos in the day time? Be able to see everything? I like what you have going on. Try to fix mine up like that..
Hey Joe. Thanks for the comment my friend. Unfortunately I don’t have any daylight vids of that boat. I actually don’t even own it anymore but it was a super little boat. I recently did a few good vids on another tiny boat if you haven’t checked them out.
Can you advise me as to where that boat is available, and what other options are opeñ
Hi Zane. You can buy those at Bass Pro and at Dick’s Sporting I believe.
Does the charger charge the battery while in use automatically?
canon Evans thanks for the question.
Thank you so much sir. You will love it!
I love this.. How did you build the deck? I have the same boat and I am looking to build the deck like this.
706 Fishing I appreciate it and the sub! The trailer I used was a 4x8. I got a sheet of 3/4 marine grade plywood and screwed it to the trailer frame with self tapping screws and carpeted over it all. Works really well.
Bassin' 911 what about the deck on the boat? Same plywood? Also o wanted to make mine removable from the boat
706 Fishing awesome I appreciate that. The video is called trickin’ out the sundolphin or something like that. Tight lines brother!
Thanks for the reply. I subbed.
George Faulk thank you!
Never underestimate a small boat
Fishing Mojados absolutely! I’ve caught a TON of big fish out of it this year. Thanks for watching and commenting.👍🏻
Nice work!!
Augustine Gonzales thanks so much!
Can the seats slide all the way to the front.
How much does this weigh? after the upgrades?
Would help if you did the video in the daytime or turn some lights on
Where do u get a deck pre made
Man, you did a really nice job with this boat.
Nice mods, good ideas.
The Furrminator appreciate the compliments and sub! Tight lines my friend!
What kind of trailer is that?
Hey Sean thanks for watching! That was a trailer from Harbor Freight that I bought and assembled. It was the 4x8 folding model.
Pressure treated wood?
Is all the carpeted floor on ply wood?
Cody Matthews yes pressure treated. The casting deck and floor is 3/4 but the front of the battery compartment is 3/8 or 1/2 I can’t remember. I know it’s not 3/4 because I wanted to keep the weight down. Yes all carpet is on plywood
@@bassin9114 Thank you!
@@bassin9114 Is the rudder needed?
Cody Matthews for me it was. The rear end seemed to want to swing away from the front when I used the trolling motor. It is a BEAST of a motor so it would really get sideways. The rudder almost completely stopped that.
Awesome vid! 💯💪👊LET'S GO!!!
ELITE BASS STICK thanks!
Nicely done. Subscribed 👍
GetOutTheHouseGoFish Thanks so much!!
What did you do about the back area where they have the battery tie down things? I'm afraid to remove them and cause a leak.
Jasont0625 mine just had a spot that was molded for a battery to sit in. I don’t think mine had tie downs. But I just laid the 3/4 ply all the way from the front of the boat to the back so I’d have a nice and level area to start with and to be able to screw to without compromising the hull.
I hope you add d a set pedal to it because standing up alday gets old fast. I am new to your house. I smashed your bell 🛎
FOSSIL CREEK KENNEL’S & OUTDOOR’S thanks for the sub! Never added a seat to it though.
Do you have the measurements of the cuts you did? I’d love to do this to mine
Kyle Brown thanks for the comment! No I sure don’t have the measurements because I measured as I went. Sorry about that. I’d appreciate a sub if you can! Tight lines ✌🏼
Hey Dude love your setup, I have a Sun Dolphin 120 that i fish from , all of the KL series boats a re aswsome, Tell me how you like that Hook 2-4 , thinking about getting one , Tight Lines Buddy !
wayne mitchell thanks brother! Well, I have a friend that has a hook 2 4x as well and his is great. Mine tends to cut out every now and then as far as depth and temp. Overall pretty good though for my little boat. I’d appreciate a sub if you can! Thanks again!!
Hey Thanks for the respond, i spoke to a friend at the Bass Pro Shop and explained your problem , he suggested you might try relocating the transducer to see if that will fix the issue, good luck and let me know , im still probably gonna get the unit anyway , can't beat the price !
wayne mitchell yeah great buy for sure! Like I said my friend has one and loves it and when mine is working, more times than not, it is a great unit. Tight lines man!
ok Bro , stay safe and enjoy that boat !
wayne mitchell Thanks bud and you too!
Hello, what type of Gorilla glue did you use, the original?
Thanks!
I’d pay you to do mine just like this haha I just picked one up and I’ve been looking at all kinds of ways people do the deck and stuff
okay thanks!
Do you have plans from this build?
Cody Matthews no sorry I don’t but there is an earlier video that I did with some stills that pretty much shows how I did it. If you have any questions just hit me up. I’ll help you all I can👍🏻
Nice video. I wish you would have filmed it during the day for better light.
Matt Leary I appreciate the compliment. Yes you’re right. I thought the lighting would be better than that but you live and learn lol👍
Where is the seat
I did not use the seat or add a seat because I don’t fish with a seat. However, the back compartment can be used as a seat if need be.
@@bassin9114 ok jw. I’m trying to build mine now so been trying to get ideas
Where do you sit?
monte clark the boat came with 2 seats that I didn’t use. I bass fish exclusively so the only thing remotely close to sitting I do is leaning on a bike seat but I did not add one to this boat. However there was ample room to sit if I wanted.
KOOL
what about the weight is all that wood to much
sparkydoggg1 thanks for the comment. Actually there is a little less than 1 sheet of plywood on the boat. After I added it and the 2 batteries it may have added 80 pounds to the boat. I’m about 185 pounds and I have zero issues with weight. The trolling motor pulls that boat like I’m not even in it.
@@bassin9114 thinking about getting one bank fishing is getting old now:)
sparkydoggg1 you won’t regret it one second.
Id pay you good plus buy the parts if you could build me one
Eric Carr man I really appreciate that comment. It turned out great and has been a killer boat for me. Where are you located?
I have an idea: How about the next time you film a video, you do it during the day. That way, we may be able to see something.
Thanks
Chuck
Charles Faulkner thanks so much! I used the heavy duty gorilla glue and scuffed up the surface of the plastic before sticking them. It worked great for me. You can also use small diameter wood screws on the upper plastic parts such as the rails and top edge but obviously not the bottom. Good luck with your project and if you have any other questions just let me know! Thanks for subbing too! Tight lines✌🏼
Thanks
