    I suspect the reason Joe Weider didn't embrace pumping iron was personal. Pumping Iron was filmed shortly after "Stay Hungry." In that movie- written by Gaines, Joe is parodied as the owner of the gym that Arnold's character trains at. The gym owner brought Arnie over and has him as an indentured servant essentially. This didn't portray Joe in a kind light.

    Man What a Great Analysis and Channel,
    I’ll be 60 Next week,Started Bodybuilding in 75,Natural My Whole life,Steve Reeves was My 1st Inspiration,Then Pumping Iron,I competed from Early to mid 80’s and beat Many enhanced athletes,The Only regret I have is believing Weiders Propaganda about Training,The Poundage’s shown & The Frequency quoted ,Made you believe they did that all the time,The Frequency of training was the only thing I didn’t do,trained 3-4x per week.I was strong,But trained too heavy,the advice from Gironda & Reeves actually was healthier & Better Results.We alll knew the 70’s guys took roids,But now with the internet & RUclips,We know they took a lot and started young,.I still train for Health with Total Gym Full body 3 x per week,Good Definition & Size upper body,But Severe arthritis in legs & Left Shoulder from Heavy poundage,My advice is to train very moderate poundage or light,The Heavy weights will hurt you in the Long Run.I actually Despise Weider for his Propaganda

    I suspect the extra footage shows Arnold's sexual shenanigans, which are not good for running for political office and likely to humiliate your wife. Dan Lurie has also talked about Arnold's inappropriate behaviour around women as well.
    I have raw iron and found the emphasis placed by Arnold upon the drama rather disingenious.

      Theory was that Joe didn't want the sport breaking out from under his tight grip. Butler and Gaines likewise didn't want to align their portrayal of Bodybuilding with his ifbb circus and comic book portrayal of Bodybuilding. Either way, Weider profited immensely off the back of the free advertising pumping iron accrued across the mainstream exposure

Now, don't quote me but I believe they mentioned that they wanted to call the movie Pumping Up in the 25th Anniversary DvD extras. Another clue is when they were having breakfast Arnold says. "This one's talking about Pumping Up". That's a clue , No?
      To the point when Candice Bergen speaks in the car that his 15 mins of fame is done - yet he tells her that Swartz will be Gov. to which she replies, '" right and who will be the President, Ronald Reagan " and yeah by that time he ( Ronnie) was into politics- but that's pretty Damm specific- like a gag put of Back To The Future dontcha think. But no one's ever accused Bodybuilders of NOT embellishing .

    Another awesome video. I have never had a chance to read the interview that Arnold did for OUI magazine however years ago I knew a guy who had both the Playboy and Penthouse issues with Arnold's interviews. He refused to sell them to me but did let me read the interviews. All things considered; the Playboy interview was not bad in terms of hindering Arnold's future ambitions. The Penthouse interview was pretty bad though. Arnold specifically mentioned girls backstage at the 1972 Olympia providing oral to the bodybuilders before they went onstage. He also mentioned a few after-hours happenings at Gold's gym that obviously occurred when Joe Gold was not there. He clearly was not thinking that these interviews would be problematic for him in the future and yet he was so ambitious. Today we could probably chalk these up to just being early examples of Arnold occasionally being his own worst enemy.

    • @Observe555
      @Observe555 Год назад +2

      I’m not knocking your opinion, but part of Arnold’s popularity among bodybuilders is his masculinity and promiscuity. Even his sleeping with his maid and having a son with her, hasn’t really damaged him much IMO. I wish I knew about the antics you mentioned when I became a fan of his in the mid 70’s. Honestly, I think they’re cool stories.
