To make the comparisons easier, you could have used the same lens on all three cameras and also use a tripod for each shot. Also, when playing back the comparison shots, put the sequence in the same order, M9, M240, and M10 rather than jumbling them up so I don't spend half the time looking to see which camera it is.
Most important, it would make sense (comparing colors) to use fixed WB like "day light" so you can compare the colors and not the algorithm. But it seems all three cameras were in AWB :(
@@cris_photography exactly, and even now there are some companies in the US that can fix the old sensor issue by replacing glass layer on a sensor that is causing corrosion
@@cris_photography My 2012 M9-P is still on its first sensor and going strong. Not all sensor cover glasses were affected. Even the „new“ sensors can corrode.
Excellent video and presentation. Loved the test shots and random presentation making it easier for me to see which one I prefer without preconception....... and I was very much surprised (and a bit sad since I sold my M9 2 years agp...) that the color and contrast rendition onf teh pics you chose coming form the M9 pleased my eye the most!! Thanks again for your time
Would love to try the M10. I have the M9, which I love, but regarding the shooting experience, I still prefer shooting my M3 (love everything in this one, shutter noise, viewfinder, frame lines,...)
Yes - the M3 is definitely an amazing camera! The M9 has colors and definition that are out of this world and that I just love. The M10 is way more modern as to the technology in it BUT don’t find the images as pleasing as the M9. Definitely give it a try if you have the chance at some point. Take care
the M9 is the toughest camera to use but the one that delivers best results within its ISO range (a major limitation). Still worth to have, maybe in combination with an M10 or M10 R
Hello Blake, thanks for stopping bye and yes, that was my bad on using different lenses A I’ve come a long way since! I might do another such video soon in fact. Stay tuned and take care
M240's can use Leica R lenses (with an adaptor) and have Live View allowing use of a wide angle (such as my fave, a 21mm) or longer telephotos (my 180mm M) without viewfinders or a Visoflex.
In this comparison I think the M9 won. I am surprised how badly the summicron and summarit flares in one of the images. The contrast is severely affected by this flare.
Hate to say it but I’ve never been impressed with the 35mm Leica offerings. The Zeiss 35mm Biogon is my preference. As far as 50mm however, the Summicron is fantastic.
The Voigtlander 40mm 1.4 really punches above it’s weight class. I owned one years ago and loved the way it rendered on my old Fuji xe1 and M8. I almost traded it for a pre asph 35 cron but I preferred the images from 40mm Voigtlander. Nice to see how well it does here on an M9.
I agree (for image quality WHEN there is good lighting). Unfortunately I found out couple of weeks ago when I went to Wetzlar (the HQ) that the M9 is not being repaired any longer 😢
I've always wanted to buy a Leica camera, but every time I researched a particular model I always found a major defect. M8: A long list of problems which you can research on line. M9: Sensor corrosion, and Leica no longer offers free repair. Q: Dust magnet. Dust which cannot be cleaned since the lens is permanently attached to the body. M240: Reliability issues, and design flaw prevents attaching certain lenses, and limits the focus distance on others. I am not sure what the deal is but I can't help and draw a parallel with German cars, which are incredibly unreliable and expensive to repair. In contrast Japanese equipment although lacking passion in many cases, is very reliable.
Thanks for the feedback Karim. Yes, they all had drawbacks BUT they also had pros: M8: while being an APS-H sensor and having some issues here and there the B&W out of that camera are insane thanks to its sensitivity to IR rays. So while colors are quite bad, you can get really good shots like no other Leica camera. M9: yes, sensor corrosion. Now, if you got yours fixed or you get a camera that did, you won't have to problem again any time soon. Also, the CCD sensor gives you amazing photos (in normal lighting conditions) that really look like 35mm film photographs and that is something no other camera does. M240: that one is my least favorite. However, it was the first with a "normal" display and that had a CMOS sensor and LED framing lines. The results are really good, longer battery life of the lot and you can get it for a very competitive price now. Q: yes, the Q1 was not the best in terms of WR HOWEVER the Q2 really fixed all those problems and it is just amazing to use. NOW: M10: this is the right digital Leica camera and as close to what we want and they are doing better and better from there on. Cheers!
@@cris_photography I am contemplating getting the Q2 since I can crop in camera and essentially have multiple lenses, it should be fine with all that resolution. I am just waiting to snatch a good one at a decent price. Cheers and thanks for your videos.
CCD sensor on the M9 makes a big difference that’s why they look better, the M 240 second and the far more expensive M10 3 rd . The M9 has a genuine Leica look and the photos are gorgeous thank goodness I have one.

Personally, I have not known of any photographer who has used an M camera for video seriously. To me and a lot of Leica users this is a non-feature, and I do wonder why Leica ever thought it necessary to implement it in an M camera? I have to add that the LV capability of the M240 and M10 is actually quite useful when using ' non standard ' or fast aperture lenses where focusing with a range finder is a challenge even for the most experienced user. Good show, though.
Damn that sucks man! I had the same with my 240, got another one, sold it again and... would not mind having one again! Who knows... you still might get one in the future 😄

I honestly, think that your image comparison is meaningless because: Lenses draw differently. Additionally, you set m9's and m10's at their native setting, but you pulled iso of 240 at 100--its native low is 200.

Shawn Boyle agree, as a basic principle in testing gear you do not change 2 variables at a time.
Yes, imo the lens make the image, not the body!
