If something happens to the unit and it needs to be removed or changed out, do you have to tear out that brick structure you have built around it or is it able to be removed without damaging any of the surrounding stone/brick/drywall/etc?

The fireplace is designed to be serviced without removing it from the wall. The front glass comes out to allow access to the inside.

So if something happened and the entire fireplace needed to be replaced (with the same unit, simply a full replacement) it could be done without damaging any of the surrounding wall? I’m asking because I would be having a stone wall built around it. A year from now, or whenever, when the unit dies or needs replacement, I’d want to be able to swap it out without damaging the expensive stonework. Is this possible? That’s what holds me back from considering these 3 sided units….because they generally have a large surround encasing.

@@3187rakkasan No, it wouldn't be replaced -- that would require damage to the wall. But any defective components could be repaired or replaced without removing the fireplace. And you should expect the fireplace to last much longer than 1 year. This is not a throw-away unit; Napoleon stands behind it.

Your right. I would definitely expect it to last more than a year. I was just using that as an example. However, I wouldn’t want ANY unit that I would have to damage/tear down the wall at time of full replacement. I think a recessed electric may be my best bet. They seem to generally come in standard sizes and can be slid in and out without any damage to the wall. Thanks for your help. I’m looking at your website now for ideas.
