2:10 This error is more common than most people think. The error occurs when an area of the flash (also called a VTRM), is corrupt. Which usually means it's a flash chip that is defective. I’m aware this is old, but I found an error for when the hard drive dies or is removed it will give an error on the screen telling you the storage device was not found. This is because the firmware seems to be stored on the hard drive and not the console.
There's actually one you forgot for the PS3 Slim model, I have no idea how it happens, but the thing is that you're using it normally, and the screen freezes, after that, the PS3 doesn't respond to the controllers, nor the shut down button, you have to manually unplug it and plug it back again for it to work
I played a lot of LittleBigPlanet on my PS3 and sometimes my PS3 would freeze upon loading in a level and I would be forced to turn off the PS3 and turn it back on again. Fortunately despite this happening so many times, I have not lost any game data and my PS3 still works to this day, although barely used now, but hopefully there will come a day when I can have it plugged in with the rest of my playstations so that the family may be reunited.
Ok, let’s clear some things up. YLOD can be caused by a multitude of things, either a ball grid array fail, capacitor fail, overheating issues, or the power supply failed. The launch ps3 models (60gb and 20gb) were plagued with these issues and are very unreliable if you do not do any work with them to fix the issues. The number one cause for YLOD is overheating, general speaking for original ps3’s and especially true with launch ps3’s. They run at about 75 degrees Celsius which is very dangerous temps as 80 degrees Celsius is the breaking point for ps3’s and can yellow light in only 5 mins. Overheating is mostly caused by general bad build quality of these models from bad thermal paste (that’s gone dry at this point) to the fans not pushing hot air out or just not working at all to the dyes (the workhorse of the ps3’s) being humongous at about 90 nm for an older original PS3 to 60 nm for a newer original PS3. The power supply was also not that great for a launch ps3 being about only 50-60% efficient and draw a lot of heat which doesn’t help the ps3 overheating issues. I generally would avoid getting these unless you know how to fix them or your not afraid to do some work in order to get these things to run much more smoothly. Slim ps3’s also had YLOD but it’s much more rare because of much better build quality and would only happen for the older slims which have a 60 nm dye.
The console wouldn’t die after 5 mins at 80 degrees, the reasons these consoles failed was because of thermal expansion of the solder bumps underneath the die when the console got hot then cold then hot then cold this would cause the solder to expand and contract and just like how if you bend a piece of metal to many times it snaps, this is why you have underfill the prevent that from happening but from 2006 to 2008 nvidea were using shitty under-fill in all there chips, it helps to put cfw on the console and keep it under 65 degrees or 68 at a push
My big sister and I use to share a ps3 phat back in 2010. We both played it alot then as she got older and went to college it was passed down to me and I was around 8 years old playing my favorite game at the time Just Cause 2. Then moved to a new house around 2014 I was 11 or 10 just playing watch dogs 1 on it. Then it was moved to another family members house and lost in junk until I found it in summer 2019 and I was home alone daily excepted to do work but I played it Instead and had only one game left on it out of the hundreds before which was pure. A atv racing game. Now it's current gig is sitting under a table collecting dust. That startup sound is still so nostalgic, and I STILL PLAY JUST CAUSE 2..
My PS3 was once put on play (on minecraft) for almost a week. Thank god I knew by now that i'm one of the lucky ones who survived the YLOD. It's still 100% functional!
3:06 It is happened to me and im fixed it! I go to recovery and clean reboot than setup ps3 system again. All my games and saves are deleted but its fixed.
NLOD also happens if the PS3 is not plugged in. If the hdmi is plugged in only. if just the power cord is plugged in, it boots, but does not show video, to no-ones suprise.
Does this count as an error? One time, I was playing a game and it caused the system itself to crash and shutdown. Upon rebooting, the screen says that the system wasn't shut down properly as if I just unplugged it randomly. It was quite worrisome because it was trolling levels from Little Big Planet 2 that caused the crashes.
SamSonic Videos It doesn’t really, I think what happened was in the troll levels the creator put so much crap into the level that it would crash the ps3 because it tried to keep up with the game. I would suggest keeping away from those levels.
CECH-2001A was part of the First Rollout Slim Model units when this version of the PlayStation 03 came out in 2009, I got mine in November of that year and it was out of commission for almost Nine Years after a Disassembly to attempt fixing the thermals in August of 20I3 (Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime is one of the most Thermally Intensive titles on the First Rollout Slim units due to a lack of GPU optimizations in the Graveyard stages; this is what did it in for me); back in July of 2022, alongside switching out the original Thermal Pads on the Cell CPU and RSX Reality Synthesizer for Noctua's NT-H1 compound, I opted to put the Thermal Pads on the VRMs and Memory Modules, followed by running a Stress Test of Data Allocation to preserve north of Five Years of Legacy Footage that I had on the console (this process took north of 027 Hours), the console now works perfectly and I am under the impression that the VRMs lacking any resource to dissipate heat prior to this was what was causing the Yellow Light of Death for north of 0I07 Months (the Nidec Fan that cools the Cell and RSX didn't make a difference before doing this). Wishfully this will help out those of you who might be having thermal issues with your CECH-2001A and other similar SKUs from the Slim Model Era, the 2000 Series debuted with incredibly inadequate cooling for its time and thus it doesn't hurt to add some Pads and possibly also upgrade the Nidec Fan to a compatible Delta model (Delta and Nidec Fans have 0I7 Blades, but Delta's KFB1012HE and KSB1012HE run at 0I.30 Amps and are usually quieter with better air movement (measured in Cubic Feet per Minute, or "CF/m") while Nidec's G10C12MS2AH-56J14 uses 0I.67 Amps and might hum at lower Fan Speeds; NMB-MAT's fan has 023 Blades and runs at 0I.50 Amps, though there is a heightened chance for Coil Whine on older units); for Thermal Compound, I would definitely say go with the Noctua NT-H1 or the recently released Arctic MX-06 to get the temperature further down; a Power Supply Upgrade might also be considered if you need to use a few more Tens to Hundreds of Watts (this is more so an issue with the Launch Model, which is known to occasionally spike to north of 0400 Watts), even giving it a 0220 Watt PSU alongside its Main Power will help prevent it from getting kicked off when under High Power Usage for even less than a second and keep the console running stable in this era for many years to come. (:
I know this video is old, but I have a ps3 super slim and I got a weird error were it would appear to load up normally, but it would load up forever, I have no evidence as this was long ago but maybe you know about it
I owned the top loader ps3. Played for many hours at a time with classics like Batman, Just Cause 2, Gran Turismo, Uncharted, and others. I’ve never experienced the ylod, nor any other type of ps3 error. I guess when it would overheat it would automatically shut off, which just meant i had to clean it.

I have a PS3 glitch where as I’m changing the settings after I turn on the PlayStation three the screen goes black and then green and then every thing is green like the background and stuff and it shows a really close-up image of the word PS3 and I never really played any game on it I just got to that point trying to pick the character but I couldn’t really see it I tried a couple times in the same thing happened I don’t know if I should unplug the PS3 and plug it back in or if I need to get it fixed
The PHAT YLOD is caused due to NEC/Tokin caps blowing/degrading on the early models. And the RSOD occured on my PS3 Super Slim just two days ago... RIP. Also...the red screen of death, which says that a serious error has occurred, indicates not only component failure but software failure too.
I know I'm 2 years late but how many years did your console lasted? I want to get a ps3 and play some old exclusive games like gran turismo 5 (which I read somewhere it could fry the console) and I don't want the console in a couple of days or months to get the yellow light or the red screen of death
@@matiaslopez4345 Long since fixed, actually. Yeah, just blow your console every now and then with some compressed air. When I first opened the BOI up it was hella dusty. Because the only thing blocking the sound or muffling it is the plastic thing you slide on top. The phat and slim has disk drives that insert the disk inside and all the components muffle the sound more than the super slim. A plastic sliding cover cannot do much to block sound.
There is no large amounts of insulation between the disc and your room. There is not metal casing to block the noise like in the Slim models.
Muffling of plastic/metal interiors + its S!%@ ventilation (but don’t modify the ventilation system as it is built to fit in a very specific way)

Emilija Žiaunytė a meme that was viral the last few years
There's actually one you forgot for the PS3 Slim model, I have no idea how it happens, but the thing is that you're using it normally, and the screen freezes, after that, the PS3 doesn't respond to the controllers, nor the shut down button, you have to manually unplug it and plug it back again for it to work
My god this happed to me once. I was worried af cause I thought my console died. It then died about 2 days later when the fans went out ._.
@@eddsworldfand6848 this is happening to me.. any help??
Or just hold the power for long enough, then the console will turn off.
its been over a year where are the credits in the description

I love that it only shows the yellow light for 0.5 seconds, ye they call it the yellow light of death

I owned the top loader ps3. Played for many hours at a time with classics like Batman, Just Cause 2, Gran Turismo, Uncharted, and others. when you get the YLOD, see if the fan turned on. If it did, you have a motherboard issue/component issue. If it didn't, you have a power supply issue.

Yeah, just blow your console every now and then with some compressed air. When I first opened the BOI up it was hella dusty.
Honestly, if used properly, these can last ages. I've had the super slim since...2013-ish? But anyway, right around the PS3/PS4 transition era and after I fixed it, works like a charm. :)

Try to see if any component died/or turned on for long
Seeing a component dead: try to replace it with other component like it (example: fans)
Being it on for long: just turn it off to rest (idk, i am not a ps3 nerd, so i do not know)
