    Wow very skilled craftsmanship! well done I was just searching around to confirm my research was correct and it definitely is a SanDisk 32G eMMC chip in my Stream 14 mine is Grey with white keys with a Celeron N4000 CPU. I too thought it was a ridiculously small OS drive for Win10. When I first unboxed it the drive was at about 14Gb in Win 10S mode but got out of S mode and the updates exploded up about 18 Gigs!. Anyways I ended up installing Intel's very own Clear Linux which brought everything down to about 10 Gigs for OS space and the system response is snappy everything just flys onto the screen really happy with the performance. I had to install the Brave Browser to get videos and FB Twitter media working no videos would play on Firefox. I have a habit of carrying my laptop around by the left corner and now it will freeze up when I do that so I've probably cracked some soldiering connection somewhere most likely the ram socket but if I move it around with 2 hands or 1 hand on the front edge taking the weight of the screen all is well.

    It seems as though the billable hours + materials on this job approach the cost of a new laptop. That said, I appreciate the video; I was looking for a teardown of this model to determine whether or not there's a SATA or M.2 port onboard. It appears not. Many thanks!

    I'm thinking of replacing the thermal paste on this thing because it runs really hot. You can really feel the heat through the keyboard. This laptop doesn't have a fan so I'm wondering if a new thermal paste would make a difference or not.

    • @iTCXtreme
      @iTCXtreme  3 года назад +2

      Hello, sadly some laptops like this has passive heatsink which are very in dissipating heat. You can replace the thermal paste, but I don't think this will make much difference. Take care.

    Hello again
    i have figured out how to make missing m.2 socket work as sata port by installing 4 capacitors and moving one resistor around
    resistor in question is 10k pulling id2 line low for emmc and high for sata ssd operation. used 128gb ssd is 8$ + 1$ for m.2 socket , capacitors i ued were 10nf sata line termination ceramic caps pulled from broken motherboard. they are directly under m.2 socker on the bottom side
    mod isn't perfect because none of suspend mode components were installed, so the drive will be always in active mode unless it gets sleep command over sata
    i tryed it on 2 types of boards, 2gb soldered onboard ram and the same as yours , bios pin programing resistors are the same one board had working emmc but moving resistor disabled it completly, the other one had emmc riped out by another person and sold as broken but still it worked great for me
    so next time have in mind there is another option to upgrade storage on those laptops

  • @kokodin5895

    do you have bordview diagram for that model, i would love to either rout emmc sata connection to an external m.2 sata drive, or populate and reactivate the m.2 socket on the side of this laptop but as i am now i can only find that would work on 2gb model with integrated memory (because cpu 2nd sata port is already routed to m.2 pinout)and can't find any diagrams for revision d of the board to confirm my theory
    edit**********
    while watching the movie i was checking on the emmc pinout for that 2gb ram model and it almost seems like gloryfied sd card hooked directly to the cpu so if your work wouldn't work you could probably ded bug an sd card in there instead of an emmc chip. well data interface is the same at least, i still beed to count data lines to be sure
