This is the same workflow I use to edit shoots on my Ipad for when I don’t want to work at the desk. I believe when you’re syncing files this way from LRC it’s syncing smart previews and not the original files. If you try to export from the Ipad it won’t do a full res export as it doesn’t have access to the original file. All Synced Photos is just a collection that shows what synced between LRC and LR Ipad and is also available in Lightroom Classic. When I’ve finished editing and un-sync the collection, I select the option to delete from All Synced Photos (If the option doesn’t show you can reset the dialog warnings in LRC settings). It basically deletes the Smart Preview from the Creative Cloud. That way my synced collections and All Synced Photo’s amounts match, if that makes sense. I also hit the 3 dots and select Store Locally on the Ipad. This means I can edit without internet and when it reconnects it uploads all the edits I made in one go. Good video 🙌 The others show importing on the Ipad and all sorts.
Thank you for watching and the information on All Synced Photos, Stuart! I was terrified of deleting from that folder but have peace of mind now haha. I'll have to try storing locally as well. I'm always tethering at the moment, but have too many moments of shoddy connection.
this is exactly what i've been looking for, thank you!!! just one question - say when i'm travelling and want to just bring an ipad (and an external drive) but not my mbp, how would you go about using it to import the photos directly there and then sync to LrC when i get home?
Hey there! I think Roman Fox has a few workflow videos and syncs everything through Lightroom, so there might be some tips there. Not sure how it would work with Classic, but I'm assuming that it would be the same as my process but in reverse? My guess would be to make your album(s) in Lightroom Classic first, make sure it syncs up to Lightroom on iPad, then import into that album when you're travelling. Curious to see how it works out so please let me know if you try it. :)
Thanks for this video. Would you recommend the iPad Pro M4 as a primary device for portrait photography editing? I can only afford one, either the iPad or MacBook Pro M4. Regards!
I much prefer file management on a laptop so I would go for the laptop if I were choosing between the two. If it helps with the budget side of things, I've been using the M1 Max chip for the last few years and have had no issues. Older models of the iPad Pro have also been more than sufficient for photo editing according to others.
Thanks, great video. If I'm correct, standard collections can be synced with LR for iPad. I wish Smart Collections supported that same feature so that i could dynamically and automatically increase/decrease the number of pictures to be synced between LRC and LR
I feel as though I am missing out by not using Smart Collections! That does sound like a nice workflow, but I believe you're right that it's only the standard collections.
Can I please ask a question? When I first started I was syncing my photos from Lightroom Classic to Lightroom Mobile....I have since turned off syncing & re organized my collections in Lightroom Classic. So, I would like to delete everything in Lightroom Mobile & only sync certain collections from Lightroom Classic. Can I do this? If I delete the photos in Lightroom Mobile will they get deleted in Lightroom Classic as well? if this can be done, can someone please explain to me how to do it without losing my Lightroom Classic photos?
Super helpful! Thank you
