    The oscilloscope can be used to find the stereos clipping point first. You must use flat eq for highest clean output. If you’re playing door speakers directly from stereo then play 1khz tone and turn it up until the curve shows a square line back it off until it’s smooth. For Clipping point on RCA use the the clips to rcas ring and tip metal than turn it up until square line. If you’re amp and stereo are tuned by oscilloscope you should be able to turn it up until clipping point with no boosts on any eq.

    • @itsjorgieeSF
      @itsjorgieeSF Год назад

      @@rock962000 the point is to find where the stereo clips if you want to distort it after that’s a personal problem. 95% of stereo systems out there are clipping at low volume because their amps are not tuned correctly everything is on boost. Never understood that logic.

    Been using this same type of oscilloscope for years now with great success. I also use an RCA adapter to check clipping from the factory head unit. The adapter I got from eBay it's a RG58 BNC male to RCA cord. You can get them various lengths. Sometimes trying to test a head unit output RCA jack with those alligator clips can be a real headache.

    Good shit yo🤙💯I got the exact same one. Personally I turned my subwoofer level on the head unit at 0, if it's maxed out you're gonna send out a clipped signal at a lower volume rather than if it was at 0. So you would be able to turn your volume up louder still with no clip. You could find the head units clipping point by connecting the oscope to the end of one of your door speaker leads and turn the volume up til it clips. Then back it off 1 click😂

    • @BassAddict91

      @@BassAddict91 well, all settings that you know you can max out when listening should be turned up to max, then set gain. You can also do this directly from the low level output from your headunit to see where it clips. This little oscilloscope is golden for doing these settings, i have my own :)

    Good info bro, I also like to set my eq 1st then the sub level control on the headunit before I check it for clipping. Lowering the bass frequencies enables you to turn the sub level up, so you don't go over the maximum voltage the rca outputs can put out. Check for clipping using test tones, then I set up the amps.

    Bro this is a really good tutorial, you explained it so easy and showing everything as it should be.
    But you should notice that clipping might get sooner (at lesser gain than the adjusted one) when the amp is loaded (with the subwoofer connected to it) as the gain is produced by the limit of voltage provided by the amp internal capacitor bank , which, when loaded, will get discharged faster that when unloaded (with the oscilloscope).
    To avoid using the sub and getting a annoying test tone for u and your neighbors, you can use power resistors, they come into aluminium to dissipate heat better, depending on the power you want to measure you should choose a different arrange of them, or directly choose ones that handle a lot of power.
    Finally, i would suggest that you take care when switching AC DC GND on that oscilloscope, as the circuit is not perfect and if you commutate with the probes connected you will get a broken path inside the internal circuit, to avoid this, you can put a 1k resistor in series with the Red probe.
    You can also check that the amp is well balanced by using the DC mode, it should read 0V at idle, otherwise you will be dropping DC current into your sub's coil which is no good at all.

    If I want to be able to max out bass boost on amp then lower it to my preference would this work?
    Once I've found head unit clipping point(vol 61clips)
    Set headunit to 60 right before clipping
    Then hook up oscilloscope to amp + & -
    Set crossover to 200hz(prefer it that way)
    Gain Set to lowest setting
    Set bass boost to max
    Now raise gain until right before clipping
    Turn every thing off and re connect speakers
    Listen to see if I like bass boost maxed out(most likely will lower it to what I like)
    Then turn everything off and disconnect speakers and hook up oscilloscope again
    Because I would have lowered bass boost I should be able to raise gain just a tiny bit while watching oscilloscope
    Shut off and reconnect speakers.
    In theory this should now have bass boost Set to my preference without clipping right?

    Great video Bro that's a great tool for the arsenal, I need one just in case I need it but I try to only buy amps with clip indicator lights on them for my sub amp but alot of 4 channel amps for the mids and highs don't have one because they would have to have a indicator for each channel or pair one for channels 1-2 then 3-4 so I really need it for the mids and highs and to check if my clip indicator is actually correct because there could be a soft clip and the light doesn't even turn on until there's a hard clip!

Your radio should be set flat on the EQ as well. CHECK THE HEADUNIT FIRST! This will tell u were ur radio clips. 36 my be right but using the OScope will confirm this. What is that 20 volts measuring? 20 volts of what ?

  • @anthonybrown6143
    @anthonybrown6143 2 года назад +3

    Kinfolks, you always want your radio settings at factory settings, meaning zero everything out (Eq, sub vol). Next find out where your head-unit distort at. Next turn your bass knob all the way up. All settings on amplifier must be set lowest setting except your crossover which should be all the way up. Now start adjusting your gains. Never use bass boost!

      I don't use bass boost

      @@BassAddict91 I've watched dudes who use bass boost and fried their subs. bass boost is to be used when your not running high powered amplifiers and speakers. It helps for low wattage systems.

      The problem with starting with a flat EQ is it sounds like shit. If you adjust your EQ to flat, then adjust amp gains, as soon as you adjust the EQ so it sounds good or tune it with pink noise and an app like Spectroid, you're now going to be sending a clipped signal. You need all settings like EQ and loudness or SLA all set exactly where they sound the best to you and bass knob all the way up before setting gains.

      @@jamesg8246 when you set all your gains to non distortion level on all your amps, then adjust your Eq.

      Man! I put 1200 watt pioneer on these SDR 12's, I definitely need a alternator! They hit hard and deep. So I bought my brothers EVL 12 and going to buy another one.

    I’m still watching the video but I had to pause it to point out that using the oscilloscope would be a good way to see where your head unit clips. Also a lot to say about how you set your EQ. I’m sure you’re going to get many comments about that
