its pretty much self explanatory, depending on which brake u sue affect how your car slow down, soft just slows your car a bit, good for using in front brakes. the medium and hard are usually used on the rear as they're the one who have better grip or friction to the track. though it still depends on how your setup is, some use softbrakes on both rear and front while some use med or hard.
