I love the idea you're pushing out all these climbs in the 6's. The climbing community needs more beta videos like this! There's a lot of class lines in the 5's and 6's but most people don't upload these or try them because we are living in a era where we only look upto 8a plus climbers. P. S great camera work and thanks for the upload! Enjoyed it 💪
Given the number of people that climb Font 6A vs Font 8A it seems slightly strange why there’s so much footage of the latter and so little of the former, when these are the exact grades most people are climbing 🤷🏼♂️ It’s been great fun filming this series, so hopefully we can find a way to make more…
@@ukclimbingofficial Too true, that's kinda what I'm touching down on. There's a bigger pool of people climbing 5s and 6s so I don't understand why there isn't more videos. Some guy climbing a 6 at max effort is just as respectable as someone climbing a 8 at max effort etc!! We all going through the same journey and the same battle 💪
Nick is way too modest to accept compliments of any kind, but I’m completely with you - he’s done us proud with this one. Really encapsulates the fun and the feel of the day we had out. Glad you enjoyed it 🙏
Excellent vid! I've logged Pebble Wall 19 times in by logbook - never seen that crimp before! Also quick correction - the wet climb was 'Flying Arete', rather than Matterhorn :)
No need to apologise - it’s me that should be apologising!! The annoying thing is that I knew it was Flying Arête 🤦♂️ The crimp I used on Pebble Wall was pretty marginal, but quite good for someone of my height, as I felt a bit bunched using the actual Pebble. Such a good problem though, just magical.
@@ukclimbingofficial I've managed to do Pebble wall sans pebbles (awkward pop from the break), keen to try it with the crimp now ! Thanks for a new challenge :)
Funnily enough we were talking about where else to film and Scugdale came up in conversation, as did the Wainstones. Really hope we’ll get a chance to do some more based off the success of this series.
@@ukclimbingofficial Not been to Wainstones but I need to as it’s pretty local. Scugdale 30 mins away, beautiful valley and good fun. Enjoying the series, thanks folks.
We’ve got one more scheduled in for next week, then we’re going to assess what to do next. We’d love to make some more, so hopefully we’ll find a way of making it work.
@@zack.projects Me too, it's been really fun filming this series, and the response has been great, so all fingers crossed (and I'm not just saying that because it gives me an excuse to go out climbing for the day under the guise of it being 'work') 😅
Don’t worry, there’ll be disciplinary proceedings taking place for both individuals involved. Unforgivable crimes on both accounts (and I say that as one of the people that committed them - I still can’t believe I got those names wrong)!!
@@ukclimbingofficial it’s not the most aesthetic line but the movements ace, big heel above your head, small crimps to pull on, big sideways throw for a jug, it’s mint!
I think Moon make something similar, but I’ve not used that one. Aware that the Blubber is quite hard to get in the UK at the moment (or so I’ve heard).
Holy shit, you're right - and I am most definitely wrong. For reasons I can't quite explain, I'd always thought Brown's Roof was where Syrett's Roof went, but you're quite right - we're on Syrett's Roof and Bancroft's Roof is further right. I also misnamed Flying Arete too, so it wasn't just Tim having a bad day as far as memory was concerned (although his was beta and mine was problem's names) 🤦♂️
I'm always astounded by how strong people are at indoor walls. It's not like people go into the outdoors having done no climbing whatsoever, then do their apprenticeship on VDiffs. They've often climbed quite hard (contextually) indoors before they ever head out. Either way, we've tried to keep the average grade in/around the low 6s within these videos. We pepper in a few harder problems, but the majority are in/around 6A/B.
@@ukclimbingofficial Yeah, people making their first trip outdoors are often really strong in the gym these days. But often get a bit of a shock on the gritstone boulders - I know I did - some of the "easy ones" are absolutely nails 🤣

Sick video!
Thanks Cait!
Can we have a short person's beta guide please!
I do appreciate the apology in this for the lanking. ❤
Not just the problem names that are all over the place here; using the arete to finish Demon Wall Roof is unforgiveable! 😉😂

@@ukclimbingofficial your punishment is to do the Virgin Traverse until your arms fall off.
🤣🤣🤣
Let us know some of your favourite climbs at Almscliff, or in Yorkshire!
Flying arête, Morrell’s wall, Teflon traverse all great 👊🏻
Have to do Pebble wall & Morrells Wall every time I visit, uber classics.
I’ve not done Teflon Traverse, always walked by it for some reason - will get it added onto the list for next time!

“Armscliff”?!?
What is the green large mat that you.use? Not the thick bouldering pads.
It's an Organic Blubber - great for covering all the gaps between the pads!
Awesome.. thanks.for this

Bancroft's Roof? Syrett's Roof I think to give him his due.
it's also 6c+ (7a in some guides) not 6b+
Different problems, Syrett's Roof is the next roof to the left, and yeah it's E3 6b not E2 6b which is what Bancroft's gets - in old money ;)
The one they did is definitely Syretts. Got a few of them wrong, but nice video!

Virgin traverse......easy......yeah
It’s bloody desperate isn’t it?!
I dunno what kinda beginners will be climbing half of these problems 😂

If I demonstrated anything within this video it was exactly that: even easy isn’t all that easy - especially at Almscliff!!
