Under Stalin, the union went from a semi feudal, underdeveloped backwards country with a population mostly made off of peasants to a global superpower that rivaled the united states , which had been around for far longer, and all of this in a matter of decades. They had better housing, better education, better job security, better healthcare, better nutrition etc. than the United States. The only thing they really lacked behind was GDP (but again the west had a headstart).

You blame Socialism for starvation, when in fact, the vast majority of nation with Left-Wing revolts have been starving before and during said revolutions. Then there's North Korea, a region with no viable agricultural land, and starved by an American sanctioned embargo on their nation. Another example is Cuba, also strangled by American meddling.
