Never knew why Thora Birch didn't become a bigger star. There was this, and the next year there was "American Beauty", and that was more or less it. As for the tune, well, I'm glad the younger sorts are discovering cool tunes from their dads' generation. Yay music!

I lived in Asia between 2003 and 2013, and when someone there would ask me what life in America was really like, Ghost World was the movie I’d show them. I can’t believe this film is now 20 years old!

It's a LOT different in Asia, and within Asia, there are so many differences. My sister lived in Japan, and didn't like it. I like every country in the Far East/SE Asia i have been to.
My comment was about how I responded to Asians curious about life in America in the late-20th and early-21st centuries. I’d point them to Ghost World.

i think people are forgetting how legendary some of the music was coming out of the Pacific Northwest around this time. what a time.
Bit of an elder punk, here, chiming in. I've been in the scene for years. I thought the movie was... pretty mediocre, very middle-of-the-road. Not horrible, but not great, either. But when I watched it, I thought about how much I really hoped it opened the doors for a new generation of zine-making riot grrls and punks.

The scene absolutely thrives on new blood, so don't let any of the elitist gatekeepers shut you down! Vegan leather jackets are to the left, handmade Bratmobile tees are to the right.

Look. I have zero problems with songs about lesbians. Not just lesbians, but the entire LGBTQIA+ spectrum. There's no reason why we can't have more of them. Representation is awesome! But that's not what this song is about. This song is about female solidarity. If you're saying that straight women can't love other women, then you're missing the whole point of that message.

Cant believe I saw this movie 20 years ago. Who would have thought young Scarlett would blow up and be one of the biggest stars ever.
This was actually the movie that I predicted Scarlett Johansson's future relevance as an A-list actress. She already had most of the criteria needed to achieve it. She exceeded my expectations though I'll admit.
