I did this exact same job on my C5 several years ago - for the same crack. Mine cracked on its own, I did not place my hand there. The weight of the hose bouncing around while driving eventually causes the connection to crack. After I installed the new tank, I routed that hose in a way that I could add support with one of the plastic tie-strips. Now, the strain on that connection has been minimized or eliminated.
Ok Chris, here it is June 25th and 2 days ago while driving home my temp gage was at or above 239 and I smelled coolant. Took it to the shop and found a cracked coolant reservoir. Watching this video, although the job itself seemed easy enough, you clearly made it an easy fix. I, too, saw & got mine from Amazon. Thanks for all the help & videos. It's in the 100's here for some daze and need my 2000 C5 in top form.
One of the reasons I searched and finally found a white vette was your videos. Drove 500 miles. Picked up an 04 in June and put 8k on it already. I just watched this video yesterday and while putting new fog lights in I smelled antifreeze! Little wet under tank. Hit amazon and got a new one coming Monday. Thanks for all the videos and inspiration. It's funny The wife and I have been talking about getting a c4 this year as well. Even before I saw your new videos. Keep them coming brother and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Chris, Another nice job. I have the parts in stock to do my '04 and a couple of points. First I went ahead and ordered the curvy hose that connects the tank to the water pump. Figure if the hose is 1/2 way off, just as well replace it with new. Also ordered a new cap. GM has upgraded the cap to be 18psi instead of 15psi and in the desert I will use any help I can get to keep the fluid in the system. Finally, I am planning on using the 1/4 turn drain on the radiator to get rid of most of the fluid and it drains straight down through a drain hole. This "I HOPE" will get most of the fluid out without a mess. But of course if you still have the original plug in the radiator, I would not try that because it took me an hour to break/remove the GM plug when I drained the fluid earlier this year.
I’m finally changing my reservoir tank out this weekend. It’s had a small leak for a while but of course it got worse and it’s finally time to change it. I also noticed that mine was leaking from the tee connection and some of the coolant was dripping onto one of my grounding points on the chassis as well, which explains some intermittent grounding issues that I’ve been having recently. On the plus side, I get to get rid of all the brown sludge from the GM stop leak pellets that has collected into the old tank.
Good video. My 2000 tank from Amazon was $185 cdn and did not have a coolant sensor and nor does my car require one. When I removed the tank, the retaining washer from one of the vertical supports came off and I lost the support into the fender. I was able to replace it with a J hook. Word of caution.
Appreciate your speeding up the video where you are loosening and tightening bolts! That can be SO painful to watch. I think some RUclipsrs just let it run to fill out the 10 mins. Good way to get folks to stop watching the video early!! Another great job. Brake job on the C4 soon?
My 2001 Z06 had crack on the bottom where 2 hoses connect. It looked normal and couldn't figure out where leak was coming from. I just picked up 2002 Z51 and its leaking.
Hey Chris, love all the information that you share but I have an issue that I have asked others and it is this; Curious as to whether other's of you have experienced some not so smooth shifts on your T56 (MM6) manual transmission. I have just clocked 90,000 miles on my 2000 Coupe with the IL3 and Z51 package. There are occasionally a feel of the gear teeth during the shift in my hand and another occasional pop out of gear. Another quirk I am not familiar with since all of my previous sticks were the usual 4 spd variety is the DIC showing a yellow shift from 1st to 4th and it actually tries to go straight to 4th by-passing 2nd & 3rd. My shop is ready to change the Fluid as well as replace the seals in the rear differential as we noticed a very slight leak during the oil change last month. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
The “skip shift” feature has been on Corvettes since the 80s. There is a kit that eliminates it. Also, sounds like your synchros may be going bad, this the popping out of gear.
@@mycorvettelife Thanks Chris. I got many responses the same as yours. The popping out it seems was from the clutch halfway engaged but when the fluid is changed we are going to use a painter's funnel to trap any possible metal shavings etc. that may be there. Hopefully not. Keep up the good work. BTW, my previous 2 C4's (87 & 95) were automatics so I didn't know about the shift skip. My 70 & 73 Corvettes had the 4 spd of the day which I enjoyed driving like I stole them. LOL.
Was changing my coolant today. Since I got a low coolant warning. I was curious to what happened. When I was filling it. It started leaking from the seams. Without the car being on. I slapped some waterweld on it for now while I order the part ! Fingers crossed it holds 🫡
I watched hoping to hear more. I have two C5 '99 and both after replacing with the factory expansion tank unit, my digital dash continues to read low coolant. From what i can find there is no fix other than shorting that fluid level plug-in, other than shorting out the wires????? Also, my tank shows full as it should but now for over a year, i get the constant "low coolant" readout. Any ideas on that? Also, is there a way to bleed any possible air that might be in the coolant system after doing this replacement?
Never heard of this issue. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. The way the system is designed in this car all the air in the system goes to this reservoir tank. Like I said, run the car in to temp and let it cool down. Chances are, once it cools down you will see that you need to add more.
@@mycorvettelife thank you for answering me! It’s a really good price compared to the price here in Italy. This car in Italy is worth twice as much and isn’t easy to find! it would be a dream to bring it home for that price!!! Sometime I think to look for it in USA... but I know that it’s complicated... some friends of mine done it. Anyway, I’ll keep in searching . Thanks Chris for all your interesting contents!
Hi Chris, that cold start then cam lope is mesmerizing! Must be fun driving the C5! I hadnt realized how handy one of those transfer pumps can be...gonna get one! I thot if I were you, I’d just use some of the ‘miracle glue’ out there and glue that plastic reservior inlet back together. Then, I thot no, with coolant heat the glue may not hold and with all you’ve done to your motor, why risk damage if the reservior breaks then causes an overheat? You were right to just replace the whole thing. Another great how-to, easily but professionally filmed and narrated. Thanks Chris! Hope ‘21 is a terrific year for you and yours!

Thanks Chris,God Bless You and Family have a Happy New Year.
Thank you!
Thanks for the video, I just purchased a 2002 C5. The previous owner informed me he patched the reservoir and it should be replaced.
Congrats on the purchase!
Chris, just finished watching Rick Conti's vlog from today! I see you got your Colorado in his "Beautiful Rides" section 😉
Thanks Chris great Video
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video Chris a big Happy New year to you and your family God bless

Great video Chris. I just did mine on my 2000 and I paid $55 for it inc shipping on eBay. . :)

I just spent $2400 on parts for the C4. Brakes are among the list. Waiting for it all to arrive.

Great info Chris! Keep it up. Did you use the VRP under the holding tank when you cleaned the area up? :) Have a great day!
Actually no, just a wet rag.
Curious as to why you didn’t use the drain valve on the bottom of the radiator?
Because you don’t need to drain the radiator to do this.
May I ask you a question Chris?... I’d like to know how much cost a quite good manual C5 in USA.
Thank you!
I got mine for $8,000. A really good condition low mileage one one maybe $15,000.

Just use glue??? Tank is under pressure.
Mine leaks through the sensor plug can this be fixed
Replace the sensor.
Same crap happen to me. It’s cheap to buy a new one at auto parts store.
And if your fluid is old or dirty just drain the whole thing
Alguien que me pase un link para comprar un tanque con sensor solo encuentro sin sensor
not bolts! they are nuts!
And do not need to remove the lower one completely...just saying.
Did you have to bleed any air out of system.
About 83.00 for one without a sensor these day's
