I think the idea behind The Miracle cover was that after Freddies diagnosis, they did away with writing credits, and decided all songs should be credited to the band, not one individual. Hence the faces merging together on the cover. They are now one.
News of the World is definitely #1 for me. I was wondering if you’ve seen that Family Guy episode because I always think about it when I see that cover. A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races are definitely some of the most iconic covers. The Miracle is just plain weird.
Queen is my #1 favorite band. By the way, If you look at the debut album on the vinyl record or the 8 track tape, you'll see the picture is a little different. It's blown up a bit and also cropped, you'll still see Freddie in the bottom right. Instead of it being purple, it's pink. The "Queen" wording is in the upper left instead of the top right. For Jazz (My main favorite studio album), on the 8 track or the original cassette, it has only 8 bikes on the bottom instead of the full 18. Also the word "Queen" is on the top 3 times instead of 5. In the middle, the swirl is smaller and the "Jazz" wording is bigger.
Have you got the vinyl version of the Jazz album? Don't know if you are aware, but it originally included a poster, taken from the Bicycle Race video with, you guessed it, lots of naked ladies on bikes! I believe that they had to stop selling the album with the poster, but not before I bought my copy!
I do not have a vinyl copy yet. I would love to get one. I am aware of the poster, and I would like to find one with the poster for completion sake but we'll see. 😃
I'd rank Flash maybe below the Game, but on those two you're right. I have all there albums until Jazz and then bought Hot Space. I never went for The Game or Flash, and in hindsight, I think the cover is partly due to that. Also didn't like Jazz in the beginning, and Sheer Heart Attack (still so so), but these albums you just have to have..

Have you seen the cover from the game on vinyl? It had this metallic/mirror effect which you can't really do with digital images and also probably not on the CD covers. I always noticed things about the other covers, so I'm writing it all again here: Jazz: I saw a photo online which had these ring graphic from Jazz. Just search Icsid 1973 Kyoto' Japan Poster. The Miracle: There is a video of the creators from 1990 where they showed how they did the cover and I actual like the album how all these heads are in one. Also in every re-release they seem to not have the actual picture because it always looks badly scanned or they edited it slightly (In the 2011 remaster, on the digital picture, everyone looks like they have a bit of a tan for some reason). Even the new collectors edition which got released in 2022 has slightly wrong colours. Innuendo: That's the "Juggler of Worlds" (Un autre monde) made in 1844 by the artist J. J. Grandville (pseudonym of Jean-Ignace-Isidore Gérard). I think Roger came up with the idea using the drawings and they added colours and replaced the star or whatever it was meant to be with a banana. The person standing on one of the planets is J. J. Grandville. In fact: all the drawings in Innuendo were from J. J. Grandville (except of course the drawings of the band members).
I never understood the cover of Shear Heart Attack. I'm in two minds with The Works, I think it would have been better with the cog motif, but I do think it's a very well balanced looking cover. Hot Space is one of my favourite album aesthetics along with A Kind of Magic and I always loved the cover of Jazz. One of my favourites is Live Magic.

I love how Freddie smiles defiantly on the album cover, as if to say to his disease: "I'm still here. And I'm gonna keep on kicking ass til I die!"

I have seen a vinyl copy before and while the metallic look is nice, the uninspired photo is still the be biggest negative. That’s just me tho.

Fair, I did hear that to from somewhere, but if it is supposed to be a desert island, a plain black background doesn’t convey it very well. 😂
