Lissajous Pattern Generator Kit

In this video I construct a small function generator kit that I picked up from Yahoo! Japan auctions that generates Lissajous patterns on your oscilloscope.

What are your thoughts regarding running this in animation mode for a few hours a few times a week? Specifically, wear and tear on the old trusty Kikusui COS 5060A, or my Tek TDS 310? THANKS!

It shouldn't be too bad, just keep the intensity down as low as you can and make sure the image keeps moving to prevent burn in.

How did you get that really nice screen grab of the CRT?

I set up my Samsung Note 20 Ultra phone on a tripod, draped a black t-shirt over the whole lot to block out light and tweaked the manual video settings on the phone until it looked good. :D
Nothing scientific, just played around a bit until it looked nice.
One day I'll make a proper hood to hold my phone perfectly.

Might there be a practical use for this device? Some sort of testing of another device? I guess testing the XY mode on a scope is obvious...

It seems they might only be on Yahoo Auctions Japan unfortunately. There might be a similar thing available elsewhere.
Otherwise, you can create the effect with two function generators, or maybe even replicate the circuit yourself on breadboard if you are handy with an arduino etc.

I am a bit spoilt here :D But on the other hand, it can be reallly expensive to get stuff shipped from overseas ebay sellers.
