You lucky dog. I miss working on metrology equipment so much. It was my life for so long

Great repair and wow those relays so expensive ! you got a right result with the five of them....cheers.

I used one of those FM1608 Fram's in my Tek CG-5011 and Tek 2465B scope and they work perfect, Good choice ! easy to program, now if I could only find the correct lemo connector to make up my own proper cable for the CG-5011

I actually got the idea in a pdf document that I found on the tekscopes groups.io page that mentioned the use of these FRAM's in a 2465 series scope.
It's good to not have to worry about batteries any more!

Another great job! Congrats!. I have a question for you: I have exactly the same scope (the Tek one at the end, 1Ghz...mine take ages to startup), and I want to know if I will be able to change the Dallas chip (NVRam) by the one you show here. I'm very afraid of the calibration. Also, I don't know how to make a dump of its contents. Will be a good idea to make a video with the procedure. TIA!.

The calibration is actually held in a couple of eeprom chips on the acquisition board, so replacing the NVRAM's won't affect it. They will affect the enabled options and firmware though, but it is recoverable. The firmware is on the TDS784 tekwiki page.
      w140.com/tekwiki/wiki/TDS784
I am slowly working on some replacement NVRAM options using modern parts but the RTC part is a bit tricky...
I'll definitely share the info when I have it worked out, but until then there is a seller on ebay selling a set of replacement NVRAM's for these scopes that work well.
If you want to back up the NVRAM and calibration data, it can be done easily using the floppy drive and the applications here:
      www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/tektronix-tds500600700-nvram-floppy-dump-tool/
As for the slow boot, open the scope and on the top board you'll see a red DIP switch front and centre. Flick the switches so they are all pressed down on the right hand side (all in the 'closed' position), it will skip the extended boot self-test and should boot up faster, this is the standard setting for the DIP switch.
Switch #3 will set the extended boot self-test if switched 'open'.

@@NearFarMedia Wow! You’re great! (sorry, I don’t know your name). A zillion thanks to you!. I’m in the EEVBlog forum also. A couple of weeks ago I bought one 121GW DMM (great one). I’m going to raise the beep level because it’s not as audible as the one in the Flukes (I modified also an HP 34401A, and now it’s very loud, indeed).
I’m in Madrid, Spain. This is not my real name. It’s Jesus N. Gomez.
Apart from the mentioned Tek (the one as yours), I also have a couple of 2465s (B and BDM), and a pretty 222, like new.
I’m afraid of the Dallas chips inside the scopes (these doesn’t have FDD, as you know), so I was thinking in modify the internals of the chip, adding a new LiIon cell (or a series of two AA for 3V).
I have a PhD in electronic engineering. If I will be of any help to you, please let me know.
A big hug from Madrid, and…keep on doing your EXCELLENT job. It’s always a pleasure to fix stuff, and looking at your thumb up…it’s GREAT!.

Yeah, the lack of FDD makes it difficult to dump the NVRAM contents, but I just use one of those TL866ii chip programmers from China and it works great.
I'm also on EEVBlog forum as 'TERRA Operative', you'll most often find me in the Test Equipment Anonymous thread there.
I'm glad you find my videos interesting, I'll be sure to keep making them as long as there's test gear to poke at. :D

Thanks again for this additional info!. I’ll look for the programmer you mention. I’m very afraid of the NVRAM in those.
You won’t have no much followers here, but the important question is the quality, not the quantity. Yours is a nice, beautiful job. Your success is my success when I look at your videos. I was born to design and fix electronics. I began at 8, and now I’m 65!. But believe: my curiosity is endless. And of course, it is always a pleasure to contact people like you (scarce, BTW). Scarce in terms of contact, I mean.
Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge. It needs to be shared, because the knowledge which is not used nor given, is lost.
      Your Spanish friend

From 23:39 onwards, when you are showing the board and the relay's connections you keep waving the board about. Please, put it stationary on the bench, let the camera focus properly, then point.

I don't think its oven controlled oscillator . I know what you meant though. Can you start off your repair videos by letting us know what the fault with it is? Thank you otherwise.
