- Atreyu have filmed a video series documenting the recording process of their new album, Lead Sails Paper Anchor, in stores now. Atreyu teamed with producer John Feldmann (The Used, Good Charlotte) on the follow-up to A Death-Grip On Yesterday. In the final installment of the video series, Alex Varkatzas sheds light on the new vocal direction Lead Sails Paper Anchor is taking.

I agree. I had never heard Atreyu on the radio until I heard their latest single, which is a pretty big departure from their older material, which I liked a lot more.
I saw them last night, and they were fucking amazing. Alex sounded great, except on "Falling Down" which I personally think is one of their harder songs to sing. That was the only song he sounded off on lol. They were fucking amazing.
the reason he can sing in the studio is because when he is on tour his voice is being strained, plus he does the screaming vocals. I personally think atreyu is an amazing band, and each member are great at what they do.
Atreyu is amazing....look at their guitarists...theyre amazing for this generation of rock/metal

i can understand Atreyu. People say this is not Atreyu. NOT THE CASE. This IS Atreyu...just not the same as they used to be. They are simply saying that they are EVOLVING as a BAND. They play what they want to play, and if you're a TRUE Atreyu fan, you will stick with them on everything. I love EVERY SINGLE SONG they have ever put out. And that makes them TALENTED MUSICIANS. as far as Alex goes, He can sing, scream, whisper & yell in his music...and that makes him SUPER TALENTED. I love Atreyu.

I'm glad he's trying a lot more singing. Even though he's a great screamer, his singing is amazing.
Man, these guys are young as shit. I can't imagine the kind of stuff they're going to churn out in the future. I'm leary of the fact that there's more than one singer though. Usually that leads to them pursuing solo careers and breaking up the band...

I love their new stuff, its more professional to be honest, very melodic and musical compaired to what they used to do. Dont get me wrong, i liked their old stuff, but its really killer now also
I don't really understand people that don't like alex voice when he's singing meldically. Listening to their new album (and watching this video) proves that he does in fact have a good voice. Very raw, right on key, and nice to listen to in general. Perfectly suited for hard rock/metal if you ask me.
Then there's the screaming, his screams are among the best that I've heard. That's what he was meant to do. And people who don't like screaming in the first place shouldn't even critique screamers.

TOTALLY agree with you..its just so sad when people say they suck or something, i mean cmon you want to hear the same album again and again??...they have probed that they are more than a "metal-core" band

Yeah his views on screaming seem to change all the time. I mean in this video he literally said “I want to scream less and sing more”. He’s still chasing that balance apparently.
I just saw atreyu in 2021 back in december and alex just left the band before that. I wish I saw them more in their prime back in 2002 - 2006.
Alex mentioned in some inverviews (here: ruclips.net/video/O7mAn1Yee_U/видео.html) that he wanted to back away from the style he was using for Lead Sails). He also questioned the process of production of his vocals during said album and mentioned he wanted to go back to his heavy scream roots but not in screamo bands did back in the day.

Everyone needs to get this new album straight. They releaed that it's going to be a mixture of all the types of music they've ever done. There will be real "shitkickers" including their *single* heaviest song yet, more rock driven stuff like from Lead Sails Paper Anchor, and even softer stuff including a piano ballad. Congregation of the Damned is supposed to be about a third of each genre. This is simply from the press release. RUclipsrs need to fucking get this straight!!!

like people have said if you don't like atreyu don't listen simple as that.I first heard Bleeding Mascara then i listened to the rest of the album and that made me get past albums and there all great and when LSPA came out ye it's different but whats wrong with change it makes the band better because you can hear the talent of the band and bands change all the time and their next album may have even less screaming it might have more but if you like the band youll like any album they release

I've heard of Atreyu since Someone's Standing On My Chest. It was alright... then they kinda fell off my radar until Lead Sails released. It was so different in an awesome way.
So whoever said they sold out should just impale themselves on a greasy shotgun then get someone to pull the trigger.

Alex screams and songs a lot with almost no break, while on tour... I would think it puts a lot a strain and it's sometimes hard for him to get it right

What? No, there's not just "my term." There's a technique to doing everything. Dozens of singers do it the same way, but because everyone has their own voice, it's sounds different. Spencer from Underoath uses the same technique as Phil from All That Remains, and do they sound ANYthing alike? No, and they also don't hurt themselves while doing it. If it's uncomfortable, you're not doing it correctly. End o' story.
