This is incredible. The SM58 is my favorite microphone and my daily driver. I absolutely love Michael's insights and stories. I could listen to hours more of what he knows about the 58's legacy. Great stuff!
Really interesting to hear this history. My best friend passed away last year and among his effects are a Model 55, 545SD and and SM58. All of them in working order. Now I’ve got a really interesting collection of mic’s, and I know more of their history to boot.
Thank you so much! I am not persuaded to invest in Shire SM 58 because you presented the history, features and benefits of the the said microphone comprehensively. You did an excellent product presentation! You amazes me!
Sir, I want to do voice over. I want to buy Sure SM 58 mic. But a shopkeeper told me that you cannot do recording with dynamic mic. This is not for recording. Condenser mics are made for recording. Sir, what should i do ? Please tell te Truth
Hi! You might want to check out the SM7B or MV7, both are dynamic microphones used for voiceovers or podcasting. Our support team can also provide other recommendations. You can reach them at shu.re/contact.
There was a rumor that years ago, the SM58 was not being magnetized correctly. Supposedly, if you have one of the ones that was not fully magnetized, the magnet fades, which results in low output and possibly distortion. Does anyone know if this is true? I have two SM58s that easily distort. When they failed, originally only one of them distorted. Within about two months, the other one became distorted. Eventually we could no longer use them. I still have them, so I'm curious as to why they failed after about 3 years. (These mics are from the early 80s)
Very well done! I have a question please. On a popular auction site, I saw a now closed auction for a vintage SM-58 microphone that has a reference to "Porsche logos". Can you please explain the reference if there is one.
What a great history. I enjoyed this, have had my 58s since I started performing and they have taken a beating and still perform.
I provided audio for a fashion show at ex wife's retail store and had thst Shure super 55 with blue foam. The host loved it

It’s a great mic. Even though it’s generic it’s still very impressive and does things right
Amazing history. So great to see.
Love this! As a microphone nerd, I’d love to see more of these!
i second that!

So interesting, couldn't turn it off, nice presentation. Glad to know more about the legacy of my SM58
I STILL have my Shure PE50SP that i purchased in Sioux City, Iowa in 1975! It was the mic to see on any stage

So why are you not persuaded then?
I think he meant to say "now" rather than "not".
Excellent presentation.
My Mom gifted me an sm58 for my live-streaming and im so happy

That Sinatra history was awsome hehe, sorry for you Michael

Is this the billion-dollar mic yet? I wonder how many units have been sold... :)
Oh, I still enjoyed those Shure 565 micz

The Unidyne prototype is freakin' hot. It needs to be a product.
Loved that Michael! Thank you
The lab manuscript, nice, thank you.
Excellent Video! thank you!
I feel a little let down for getting a Blue microphone for much more :)
What was it about the sound signature of the SM59 that irritated Frank? I am curious
Cool. Saw this on sm58 day.
just when i was looking for a video deciding whether i should buy this mic or not
Yes, I still have it, with lots of pitting on the grey enclosure from years of use. Natural relic at its best 😁😉😜
I had a guitar pedal that I used for echo/reverb and I trade it for a Shure 58 from my cousin in 1981 still works fine all I did bought a new mic ball
It sweet! I use the sm 58 sometimes
Fantastic!
I totally enjoyed this presentation. I learned that the 57 and 58 both use the same element. And OH MAN, that SM59 was Shure ugly!
Bauer was from Odessa, which is considered Ukrainian today. But he was indeed born in the Russian Empire.
That's entertainment!
For a company that makes "legendary" microphones, audio quality in this video is really bad. You may try Neumann KSM 105. I will help, I promise.
Its google meet m8 😂
It's called a KMS 105. If you're going to name drop for attention, at least spell it right.
@@gillihansmobilewelding lol
❤❤❤
wow. Senatra was rude..
The audio here is ironically bad for talking about microphones 😅
Sinatra is so bland. His music has turned into background music for shopping malls.
