Absolutely wild. Stuff like this may have been done before at smaller scale, but the execution here in this case is incredible. Possibly a turning point for fashion and related industries.
This kind of made me emotional like I’m so proud of her for achieving this super fascinatingly cool, and forward thinking invention. She made fantasy a reality! Mind blowing
This seems so primitive (monochrome, big pixels) and yet a premonition of what will be available in few years, with clothes fully customizable, in color, and more detailed pixelization :)
They just created it. Jesus give them time to improve it. Were cell phones always smart phones with touch screens no it took 25-30 years. People always have to be negative about something.
Brilliant initial idea! This might inspired by fish scales as the small screens that connected one to another so they can displays many still graphics, photos or even videos. The cons perhaps are cannot be folded and pressed against the body due to vulnerability of the small LED screens, so designers need to concern to place the screens in an area that is safe from impacts or other physical situation. This might developed for interior items as well such as curtains, table runner, sofa pillow covers, etc.
Awesome tech. What I love about this personal is that I could feasibly get a style of dress made that really fit you well and suited me. Then just wear that so many times as it can look different every place I wore it.
The question is: is it comfortable to use like an ordinary dress fabric or it's more like an armour? Because if it's not, probably it will be used only in events like that, where you can't even seat.
Right now I would imagine it's a bit heavy and not as comfortable as it would be without all the sensors and stuff. However, if you think about the possibilities with things like shoes, now you have a whole world that opens up because those can actually convert kinetic energy into electricity and be reactive to movement, with little to no impact on comfort.
I think it would be, if leds were much thinner and much plentier. If they could put Apple in a thin watch and screen, it is possible for that dress as well. Holographic as well. Hopefully it gets thinner and thinner, smaller and smaller (the bits and screen of the dress), it can be distributed properly for everyone in different styles, we can have reusable dresses, mainly for partying. Like a flip phone for someone wearing it to sit down. Yet I still would give support to fabric fashion designers if they yet, couldn't convert their ideas into something techy. Nothing is as comfortable as real fabric, and valuable.
This dress is looking great! Contrast is good and the pixels are getting smaller. Hopefully this will increase awareness that eTextiles really ARE becoming a thing.
The concept is solid. And you could probably add to the reflective backing some kind of addressable RGB electrochromic pixel and then make a whole bunch of them standard sequin sized. Transflective displays don't use a lot of power. You might even be able to change the backing to be retroreflective for an even higher illumination gain when viewed head-on.
We're definitely headed towards a cyberpunk dystopian future... I can totally imagine a wealthy person wearing interactive clothing walking down a sidewalk filled with homeless junkies.
She does understand that this is a step towards invisibility and she should be careful? Right? Like this itself isnt close to what im talking about but the idea is a step towards a dangerous direction that wouldnt only apply to dresses
i would imagine you'd clean it with the same stuff you'd use on your LCD monitor because the scales are made out of the same material. The fabric part, maybe it detatches and you can put it into the wash like anything else.
Love the whole thing overall. It’s the epitome of high tech meets fashion. A wonderfull culmination of Fashion, Design, and Technology all rolled into one magnificent piece of art. Just breathtaking 🤩🤩🤩❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍
Maybe the next step is an app connected to your smart clothes. You'll take out your phone and select your look for the day. Or select a mode in which your look dynamically adapts to fit your environment or activity. Maybe companies will pay people to advertise their brands on their smart clothes.
That is amazing! Now how do I get Adobe Acrobat to NOT wipe out all the information I put into my document once I send it out for signatures? I have been working with the same document for the last year without any problems, and ever since Adobe's system update about 3-4 weeks ago, the same form is now wiped clean of all information I put in (through the app on my Macbook Pro) once I send it out for eSignature. The dress is a nice to have. The ability to retain information once converting to eSignature is my sanity and keeping my job, and a 101 of what Abobe's OG product of Acrobat should be able to do. What the heck?!?
You may already use the workaround of printing to PDF (as can be easily done in a web browser like Chrome, and hopefully Firefox) to generate an “uneditable” PDF
It doesn't *seem* that wild? We've seen this sort of thing so many times in Sci-Fi that it doesn't feel that dramatic a development in technology to have a bunch of tiles sewn onto a garment that can change colour when you click a button. If this is a revolutionary thing, we're probably looking at the Nokia 3210 version. Also, from a fashion perspective.. its one dress, with one shape - and that particular dress by itself isn't that inspiring. If you could invent a dress that physically redesigns itself at the click of a button - different lengths, form-fitting, loose fit, on-shoulder, off-shoulder etc.. now that really would be mind-blowing!
We're getting there. Color changing like this is one thing that is currently available. Shape changing is real and already exists, but only in smaller demos. Capacitive touch and sending data through fabric is also possible. It's just going to take a few years to tie them all together in to something cool.
It's not a rigid screen. Those scales you see on the dress are each one pixel of the "screen". They're sewn to the fabrix, so the dress is probably pretty comfortable.
VERY kewl indeed. Now all women need to do is bring a boleros or shrug to compliment the various changes throughout the day, using the same technology infused within it.
