    I've adored this game for almost a decade now, and I actually noticed something I've never noticed before while watching this playthrough; in the final fight against Malus, the 16th colossus, you have to avoid the colossus' barrage of projectiles by hiding behind the barriers. I always assumed these were designed for the reason you're using them (getting close to the colossus safely), but if you look closely, the ramps up to the slits in the barricades where archers would fire arrows out of aren't on your side - they're on the opposite side facing you.
    Those barricades aren't to prevent the colossus from hitting you, they're to prevent YOU from reaching IT by stationing people behind the walls to shoot anyone who tried to approach: which is likely what Emon and his men were intending to do had they not been too late.

    • @Syntex366
      @Syntex366 Месяц назад +1

      That doesn’t make sense though, why would a very hostile colossus like Malus not attack Emon and his men, much less team up with them? He attacked Wander on sight, there’s no logical reason that would change for anyone else that crosses his line of sight.

    • @hyperspades
      @hyperspades Месяц назад +16

      @@Syntex366There's obviously a lot of room for speculation here since the game never tells you anything, but it stands to reason that Malus wouldn't have attacked you if not for the fact that he literally watched you kill all 15 of the colossi before him. Eric comments on this during the fight regarding how you can see all the pillars of light the colossi left behind from atop Malus's head; and with him being the only stationary colossus in the game, he had to just stand there as the lights lit up one by one, marking the death of his brethren.
      Yeah, I'd be pretty pissed at that point too.

    At the end I was thinking it was a little cheap reusing music while playing as Dormin, but no big deal in the grand scheme of things. Once the death music played however, it hit me: the game is putting you in the exact same position as the 16 Colossi you killed, making you feel the same thing they felt in that moment. With that perspective in mind, the use of the music is utterly genius.

    Also, to be fair to Dormin, he did exactly as he promised. He brought Mono back, would she have been destroyed in his taking over the world, probably, but he did do it. Most evil gods or demons would just lie, but he actually held up his end of the bargain even though he was sealed. I find it very funny that throughout this whole playthrough, Eric just never grasped some very core things about the gameplay such as jump climbing, crouching to not get ragdolled, watching the colossi's eyes to see whether it's agro, colossus line of sight, and the difference between weakpoints and sigils

    • @Dudeman23rd

      To be fair, there are several optional mechanics that the game goes out of its way to NEVER teach you. The game was designed to have additional depth for the people who decided of their own volition to explore everything the game has to offer, from controls to secrets. So the fact that he finished the game anyway with some control misunderstandings says a lot about how solid of an experience it is for people who just want to finish the game, too.

    Dormin = Nimrod... The 'king of the giants', one of the Nephilim (offspring of fallen angels and human women). He was the wicked ruler of the very first kingdom (Babel) who was killed by a righteous man (supposedly Seth, one of Adam's children) and his body was cut into pieces and divided among the land. According to the Book of Enoch, the spirits of departed Nephilim are what we call 'demons'. The tower in the game is like the tower of babel, babel being Nimrod's kingdom, and the consciousness of the slain Nimrod resides there (Dormin). In order to resurrect, the demonic spirit of Dormin needs to be made whole by reuniting the pieces. It should also be noted that the Nephilim are essentially the origin of the Greek and Roman demigods who were worshiped using stone idols (like those in the game). So basically, this game is an interesting retelling of the Nimrod story and it's mythological variations.

    • @asherdevin
      @asherdevin Месяц назад

      I'm no expert, but isn't it likely that the Greek and Roman titans are the inspiration for the Nephilim? Enoch is written around 200-70 BC, while Israel is under Babylonian control. I assume they must be having some interactions with Greek/Roman culture because they're dominated by the Romans soon after. It's possible that this story of Nimrod is a way for them to reconcile their different histories, since I don't think there's any mentions of fallen angels or actual giants in Hebrew history before this point. The book of Enoch retroactively adds those elements which gives God an enemy to fight, among other things, like they would see in Babylon and Greece/Rome.

    6:14:00 It is confirmed that Ico, SOTC, and The Last Guardian share a universe however the chronological order of the games are unknown. Unfortunely, there is a lot of misinformation regarding the order of the games but the truth is we really don't know because the game devs never told us (it is unlikely they made a concrete answer themselves mainly cause it ruins the whole mystery aspects these games are known for)! It is ENTIRELY up to interpretation and for all we know all the games could be unrelated outside of sharing a universe.

If you did a new game plus with hard mode, you kept your grip and health, so you could keep upgrading it. If you play decently well, by the end of trying out the different permutations of content the game has, the health bar goes off the end of the screen and the grip circle takes up about 1/4 of it. It was my first favorite game ever and one I still adore to this day all these years later. You will not be disappointed if you do play it.

    It's really interesting how different peoples' perspectives can be, especially on minute and irrelevant topics such as joke spoilers. I personally think a joke spoiler every now and then can be pretty funny. Actually, when you were giving an example and said "I can't wait until Sora comes out" I laughed pretty hard because I thought that was really funny. If I was in your shoes and someone in chat had said that, I would have laughed just the same. But like I said at the beginning, only every now and then. If the whole chat was just joke spoilers, yeah, that would be annoying and not funny, but a few sprinkled throughout is fine imo. So it's just interesting how different we humans are despite all of us being humans.
    Pretty awesome that you figured out Dirge like a minute and a half after starting here. He's definitely one of the more obscure ones up until you randomly decide to start riding Agro directly away from him. Once you do that and his eyes show, it's super obvious imo.
    "Regular size thing" lmao. Yeah, Celosia is a lil guy.
    It was kinda funny seeing you take so much damage to Pelagia's thunder because you were just swimming, and only realizing right before the end that you can dive to avoid the damage.
    Really interesting seeing your approach to Phalanx, choosing to let him raise his wings and then running along them rather than climbing them while he still has them down. Never seen anyone do that before, at least not more than once, but hey, it works.
    I also only just realized that Celosia and Cenobia's idols are bigger than they actually are lol.
    Someone in chat said they don't like Cenobia because of the AI and that it's broken, and they said something along the lines of "yeah the AI is kinda jank here, there you go" once you shot him to make him hit the first tower the second time. The whole time, I was sitting there saying "no, it's not broken, it's supposed to be that you shoot him to make him angry so he creates destruction" until I remembered that he can bug out on the third to last tower and just stand there until you drop to the ground and climb up again. That one part specifically can be a bit wonky for sure, but it in no way ruins the fight or makes the colossus bad, just a bit goofy. Especially since it only happens sometimes.
    Someone else in chat said something to the effect of "moral of the story is devs need to remember to put checkpoints" and they said that right after you died to Cenobia for the first time. Just here to point out how absolutely wrong that is. No game is going to please everyone. For example, FromSoft games are meant to be difficult, so if they're too difficult for you, you can find other games that you will enjoy; those games don't need an easy mode. Just the same, a game like this doesn't need checkpoints because that's not what it was going for. If you don't like that it doesn't have checkpoints, you can find another game that you will like. That's simply how it is.
    It was really funny seeing you climb on top of the decoration piece towards the end of Cenobia's fight, then shooting him and finally having him knock the platform down. You can do it from anywhere on that platform as long as you're near the edge (which you'd need to be in order to actually shoot him). I would guess the reason you thought otherwise is that one of your shots was SUPER close to hitting him, but it was just barely too high and hit the grass instead, meaning it didn't not work, you had simply just barely missed. That's just my guess anyway.
    Someone else said Argus is also super buggy when you were trying to jump to his hand. Once again, no, you just have to be quick about it. It's completely intentional that he'll yank his hand away from you if you're not quick enough.
    A lot of people say Argus is one of the worst and most annoying puzzles, and I'd just like to voice my stance on it. I completely disagree; I think it's one of the most satisfying puzzles to complete and it's also not one that will take an ungodly amount of time. So Argus is definitely a high A tier puzzle imo, maybe even S tier. (Colossus tier list when? 👀)
    It's really hilarious to see that you only discovered the lizards and fruits at the endgame.
    It's a terrible day for rain.
    5:12:39 *_you got games on your phone?_*
    Someone said "this sucks but the ending is worth it" while you were fighting Malus. I'd just like to say damn, it's really unfortunate that you don't like one of the fan favorite fights.
    Whoa whoa whoa, no, absolutely not. Someone in chat said they love this game, but Malus is bad game design. That is simply wrong. No explanation needed. The most you can say is you don't like the colossus, but saying it's bad game design is crossing a line and so far beyond wrong that it can't properly be put into words.
    It was truly a beautiful experience seeing you get so emotional over the ending. Really goes to show how much you invested in and dedicated yourself to this playthrough, which I and many others appreciate beyond words.
    The Sunlit Earth, the track that plays while the kite (that's what the bird species is) is flying away during the credits, is my favorite track from the game. Full body chills every time I hear it and so many emotions. Truly a masterpiece, just like the game as a whole.
    I'll end this off by saying what I said to start with on the first vod: It was really a treat watching someone who can truly appreciate this type of game play it. It's one thing to play the game and enjoy it; it's another thing entirely to truly experience it, and you did the latter to such an extent that it went beyond all expectations. So, truly, thank you Eric, for this stupendous experience. I look forward to when you come back to this game.

    Once you know where the enemies are and how to kill them you can easily beat the game in under 2 hours.

    And there are some secrets hiden. Like references to other games. And some tags of goats for some reasons.

      Yeah that was really weird, it must have spawned in at the wrong angle and the bump from the colossus fixed it. All the pillars are designed to fall in a preset direction so there's only one correct way it should have been facing.

    As someone who has hunted salamanders for literal hours as an experiment, I was VERY disappointed to find out that salamanders are only worth about 1/5 of the stamina gained from felling a colossus. After playing new game plus a couple times, I was able to get max stamina pretty quickly. Definitely, DEFINITELY do not collect all the lizards! Hours of human life have been wasted... about 5 were mine!

      This feels somehow significant. 3+1 is 4. 4x4 is 16 Colossi. There are also 4 distinct groups in the game. The followers, wander’s allies, Dormin, and the Colossi.
      444 is an angelic number.
      Dormin, or rather Nimrod is a nephilim, which are the offspring of fallen ANGELS and human women.
      Could just be me reaching, but it’s possible there’s a link.
