Thanks for this, Chris. I bought the green one a few months ago and was not disappointed. It is a another lovely example of a well designed pen from Hong Dian. I have a ‘green’ forest model, which wrote straight out of the box over a year ago and never lets me down no matter how long it is left unused. Best to fill up directly with the converter into the bottle to avoid staining the white section. I am not a fan of fine or extra fine nibs and I was a little disappointed not to have a Medium offered with the 1862. Reviewers get nice presentation tins … the rest of us get a Jiffy bag, some bubble wrap and a plastic condom! Incidentally, when I first encountered the little floating spring in a converter quite a while back, I honestly thought that it was a part that had become detached and spent quite some time trying to establish just what purpose it served!
@@chrisrap52 Many thanks, Chris. I should have tried there first. I have bought from that seller several times. Have now bought the blue version with a nib.
These are not what I expected! The green one makes me think of the stove and refrigerator in an apartment I rented about 19 years ago. I like the textured barrels. And white needs to be in more pens. The writing seems good
Wow, I liked these pens just from briefly seeing them on a store page, but all the details in this review really made me love them. The finial decoration really sets it off, and the springloaded clip is something I've wanted to see in person. And of course that sweater look of the barrel is super cute and pleasant. They were on the backburner for the cute barrel design, but this review brought them firmly to the fore
I do like Hong Dian pens, although I do gravitate to their larger models like the N6. Their nibs are pretty consistent in performance. As you mentioned I probably would not opt for this pen but I do enjoy the videos of them. Sometimes I find myself looking at one that may not initially impress but afterwards I think of the pen as being more appealing, considering the features and the person's evaluation. Very good, unbiased review, Chris.
I'm a fan of Hongdian's #5 EF nibs on their metal pens. The only one I really wasn't happy with was the 6013, but I absolutely loved all their "Forest" series pens and have a number of them in different colors. I'll have to look into adding one (or more!) of these to my collection!
I’d be interested in video detailing the history and connections of Hong Dian, Moonman/MaJohn, Asvine. Also the Hero, Wing Sung connection. While I’ve pieced together bits and pieces from Reddit threads I haven’t seen a cohesive chronology of how these companies fit together. Their quality is so high and they could really benefit from making their history understood. For example some Italian brands are not that old, but have connected history (Delta, Leonardo, etc).
Would be a great video, not one I have enough information to make it. From my experience, Reddit is not a verified source of information. Many contribute their ideas/thoughts which are not verified. For now, I'll enjoy the pens I have and limit my speculation. This was my source, I met Frank, frankunderwater.com/author/iwasakiflanker/. Unfortunately, the site is not current.
The review of the pen is informative, Chris. It does appear th me that the green pen with th EF nib is skippy and has uneven flow. I think the scratching is more like "singing" in the nib, though. Your thoughts?
Hi, nice video. I will buy one of those to see what are they offering. I begin buying fountain pens when I discovered eBay some years ago, because in my country there were only the expensive ones made in USA, that in here were available just the Parker's, so I was having the 51, 61, and some Sheaffer, but they were used and writes not very well. So when I begin buying from China, things changes because they were new ones and worked well. Now I buy using Ali express, and they have way much variety than E bay, and perhaps better quality, as the ones I purchase using E bay sometimes were not working well at all. Now I have some 900 fountain pens or more. Thanks for your time and videos. From Chile.
Haha has a whiff of Monteverde Ritma. I got one of those but the build quality is nothing to write home about. The barrel was unscrewing when I was writing or when I picked it up until I had to put some plumber's tape at the screw threads to stop that from happening. Just wish that Monteverde had the build quality of Hong Dian.
In general I like Hongdian pens but this model wouldn't inspire me to write. I didn't really like any of the colours and trying to hold a pen on its "sweet spot" is a bit tedious.
niiiice. i love Hongdian. And i love your videos even more.🎉🔥👑
Yay! Thank you!
Always nice to see videos like this to go back to when pen hunting

Spring serves to collect ink & make cleaning out converter a PITA. Pen sold on Etsy with M nib option.

Appliances, EDC, good comparison.

I love the look and colors of the pen. Too small for my hands I think. Especially the section. Thanks for another great review.
Thanks for watching!
Wow, Chris, Sir, your collection is so vast, you basically have a pen museum!
Yes I do!

Thank you. That is what I try to do. Thanks for watching.

WOW. You must be Chile's No. 1 pen lover. Buying pens online has challenges, I like using the same sellers that are reliable.
thank you very for your vídeos, this pen is very nice. Best regards from Brazil, Mário.

Comparing to a Monteverde, how dare you! These are good pens. Thanks for watching.
@@chrisrap52 haha
Are these compadable with a standard short ink cartridge?

That’s because it’s seems to be made for women.
I'm a big fan of HongDian, but not so very excited about this model. Good review, though.
Fair enough!
