I have been on statins for several years. The only side effect I think I have is elevated AiC. I am now at 5.7. I am 82 and my dr wants me to stay on statins simply because of my age. My cholesterol numbers numbers are fantastic--Total is 162, LDL is 86 and Triglycerides 64. I had an ApoB test done on my own at it was 81. I am in a healthy weight range, I work out regularly and eat a low carb, no sugar diet. I stopped what was only moderate drinking. I have never had any sign of heart disease. I am almost 100% certain that there is no benefit to taking statins and I am not happy with my A1c numbers going up. So my rational mind and my fear are at war.

You are absolutely correct about the first recommendation from one's PCP. Several years ago, at age 50 I had my annual physical which resulted in my doctor recommending statins. He wasn't wrong, but I refused. My weight was 245, my total cholesterol was 255. I told him I want to take 6 months to improve my health, if I didn't, I would take the statins. I lost 25 pounds, my total cholesterol went down to 205. He was surprised and told me most people don't have the discipline to do that. Fruits, veggies and eliminate junk food. It works.

      Thank you for your question.
Lp(a) is genetically driven and is frustratingly hard to lower.
Here is a link to one of our blog posts written by Dr. Klodas that has a little more info for you to read up on Lp(a): bit.ly/3NQrIy0

Skepticism is certainly merited with the current state of the food industry. Step One Foods is about convenience in beginning a whole food plant-based diet journey.

Skepticism is certainly merited with the current state of the food industry and health marketing. Step One Foods is intended to be a convenient way to get started on a health journey to receive the nutrients our bodies need- an individual can get these nutrients from whole foods and a plant based diet as well, not only from our products!

She speaks the truth- I am her patient and I can speak to how she educates her patients about the power of diet and healthy lifestyle. I was resistant to drugs as well and do not take them.
I feel fortunate-she speaks the truth- based on science. Check out the data yourself.
      You won’t be sorry!
