@@OutdoorsAllie definitely agree with looking into dr.ashby. long story short. Its a light arrow shaft and high FOC (with some differences) start with what your arrow will do to the animal then work backwards. Also check out ranch fairy.
Do you all realize that the Ashby report is a report about traditional archery and getting it legalized in Africa. Everything is exaggerated in order to convince another continent to allow western hunters to go fling arrows at their large game.
Really should’ve cleaned the inside of the arrow after cutting and squaring/chamfering. The carbon dust can make the inserts not stick well. Also that’s really light for elk hunting. Just my 2¢ though...
Allie, I love ur channel and look forward to new videos. I video my hunts or try. And try to make little clips and edit. What camera do u use. And how do u edit ? Do u use?
Look into the Gold Tip Kinetic arrows. They are 5mm diameter (same as an Easton Axis), and can be FOC-adjusted with weights that screw into the back to the insert from the back of the arrow (nock removed).
Could you please explain the drawing process for big and small game and how a point system works in your beginners series now that seasons are opening up
Thanks Allie i love this channel , this is how i would live if it was legal here in the UK , but i do try i really do 😈 them arrows took me back a few years 😀😀😀 i have three alluminium ( we spell it different ) easton camo arrows with bear broadheads from the 80s with feather fletches , Wow the memories , im ordering more nap quick fletches theyre great
A rainbow tra - jectory spit it out , i think i will continue the journey , its a chirpy exciteable journey with a few twists n turns but i like where its going cheers Allie im ordering arrow building bits as we speak
I watch a lot of women on RUclips but I was thinking the other day who was first and guess what it was you something about you Italian ladies💥✌😁🐝 hope you get one
You have the same draw length as I do . My speed demon set up draw is 28" Easton bloodline 300 spine cut at 28.5 with a 85 grain montech g5 out front . My elk set up is a Prime nexus 2 80lbs and vap xtorsion arrows at about 560 grains
@@OutdoorsAllie my bows on order the one I shot at the shop was amazing. The draw cycle is smooth no drop into the back wall like on Hoyts and Pse . And the back wall is rock solid with no creep
Fantastic video and I completely forgotten about those Quick Fletch. I'm going to be going through this process next year, maybe even this winter. I really would like to push closer to 600 gr and with my bow, I think I can do it. I primarily hunt archery elk and bear, so having I'm looking for more weight with proper arrow flight.
Great Job! 445 grains! thats nice. Pair that with a super sharp 2 blade cut on contact and lookout ribs. one thing you can do to experiment further is get the "Ranch Fairy test kit" which comes with 2 field tips each ranging from 100 to 315 grains. Maybe some day you want to shoot a boar at 20 yards and really want to see how heavy your setup will allow or you want to get to that magic 650 that dr. ashby says is the weight that consistently breaks bones. Theres definitely a happy medium, though. Good Luck this fall.
Sweet! I hope you get a big, massive elk! 😃 but ifthe season is closing and you didn't get one, just drive the 550 highway between jemez and farmington new Mexico between 7pm and 5 am! Theres elks all over that road... It seems they like to jump onto the road and make you swerve.. I swear, every time i go down that road theres always like 5 or 6 totaled cars or trucks from hitting an elk... Road is dangerous at night!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂☺☺
Allie i like your content. For a followup i would hope you could explain the thought process when you selected your components and spine. And what resources helped you with the decisions. Building arrows is challenging. To get every component to match your goals and also shoot well out of the bow. Personally i use an app for "building" my arrows in software. And cross reference results with numerous other resources. When all that is done i can start building... that's the easy part.
Question:> Won't increasing FOC also result in a weaker spined arrow and also effects the poundage of your bow if you are shooting min spineed arrows. I like hunting with field points, Lol 😳💘👍
Thanks Ally! Loved the arrow build! I really want to try out these arrows to! I have the FM Jays and find that they stink so much with my low poundage bow!
Thank you for explaining your rationale behind the arrow you chose. Too often, someone picks an arrow based on expense or sponsorship - rather than a clear rationale regarding a weight or speed that they want to achieve. Good luck this fall.
Overall arrow weight is where the difference in penetration comes from. The FOC thing has been debunked plenty of times. Granted it’s not worthless because it does help stabilize the arrow in flight. An arrow with high FOC and low FOC that weigh the same penetrate the same.
I truly believe in the FOC. Thank u for video. I feel comfortable now to built my own instead of buying them. I was all over the place with no penetration at all. I measured and calculated my FOC increase and I am busting fletching to target and I can now shoot 40 and 50 yards like a tack. Thank u.
@@harleydeen98258 in fact dr ed ashby's 27 year research proved not only do you get better penetration with a well tuned arrow/arrow flight with high foc, he found that a 650 grain arrow was the threshold to consistently crush through bone i.e a bad quartering shot more likely to smash through both shoulder blade/scapula
Hey, very nice video I like how you explained everything and had good video showing you do it as you explained. Curious how your arrows did for you and also what poundage are you shooting these arrows? Thanks
Great video. You should look at Doctor Ed Ashby's research as well as check out the ranch fairy if you are look to up your foc.

You need to do some of your arrow components work on a portable bench,

Hey Allie, you hunt in the US. I am in Canada. Whats your favorite elk hunting state We are looking to make a trip to the US when things open up.

Yes, it is on the list!

Let me know if you’re up for a Hunt in South Africa 🙏🏼
Wow
Nothing like booking a South African hunt through the comments section of RUclips!
your an amazing grouse shot
I don’t know much about arrows any advice for longbow hunting I use a 55lb SAS Recon Bow.
Not particularly. Sorry.
Ranch fairy
Hes part of the ashby foundation and gives knowledge from dr ashby 27 years of field testing on arrows
I use the same arrow squaring tool without a drill. Works fantastic!
Good to know!
The G5 Arrow Squaring Device is much better. I just use the diamond sanding side on everything (carbon shaft, and aluminum inserts).
I'll check it out.
Shoot Victory Vap very super small dia 166dia will help you In a lot of ways ... speed, pen, wind drift to name a few....
I did like the Victory arrow alot.

So excited for hunting season!! 😁

A little tip for removing the old glue on you're arrows remove the nocks stick them in a jar of acetone for 10 or 15 minutes gets rid of all the glue
Thanks for the tip Jacob!
My whitetail arrow is just a hair under 500 grain with15.3% foc. If I were hunting elk I’d likely add another 50 grains to the front.

She is shooting a 400 spine at 52 lbs or whatever she said. It won't be too weak
You need to take your nock out before installing those inserts. Causes a vacuum and could make it impossible to screw your points and broadheads in.

Nice video allie!! Can the quick fletching fit on a bolt for a crosbow 400 fps?
Im sure it would. Double check the website though!
They aren't good for high speed crossbow they will slide
I may have missed it, but I never saw whether you were sticking with the PSE or going back to your other bow
Sticking with PSE for now!
