Very knowledgeable guy on the conservation aspect. What he said is very true -- if anglers want to catch more fish in the future and preserve populations, definitely do NOT target spawning fish. That applies pretty much to every Species, including the Largemouth Bass. Folks tend to target Largemouth Bass in their beds, during spawning season, without knowing how much damage they are giving to that fish and that aquatic ecosystem. Very well said.
Nice one Nick n Jordan. Great fun watching you guys. Really good looking river. Comparing your trout to our Barramundi, which grow 3kg (6 pound) every year!
I know another river in norcal with really big wild trout but due to the terrain and depth combined with average flows its not an easy river to flyfish and is more suited to conventional gear. There are some spots you can cast a flyrod and get a couple fish but they're far and few between.
Back in High School/College 1964 to 1968 I fly fished Putah Creek every weekend. Nice to see it is still pretty good fishery. Never saw a guide then of course. Those bigger trout (over 16") are educated! What are those disks on the front of your waders for?
they so informative about how to catch fish that in the end is, they spend most of their time explaining how to catch fish versus catching fish. Let's catch fish!!
I’m glad I watched this video. I was going to go throw a fly in Putah this weekend, but now I don’t want to be a dick. Lol are trout spawning everywhere right now, or are there other rivers I can go to?
lol i got pulled out of that creek by a helicopter go on google amd type teen stranded on island in putah creek california then click videos and im the one with my shirt of in white shorts
jacob ahu not a strong swimmer? i remember it said a 15 year old kid was swimming an he got stranded on the island, so y not jump in an float on your back down stream a ways until u make it to the side or shore
InformativeFisherman Haha I figured u did being from Cali, back home in AZ everyone knows wat it means but here in Fl it seems like no one grows up learning all the bad Spanish words lol
wild trout in putah Creek are you joking they haven't been wild trout and putah Creek since the eighties when fish and game first started stocking that Creek because it's a lock location from Lake Solano to the dam, Tree Huggers and you bleeding heart liberals and fishing game to ruin that fishery for the general public when you cut off the stocking program and forced it to barbless Hooks and catch and release only because supposably there was wild trout not wild trout just stocked trout that managed to breed and then technically you could call the babies Wild, I don't get me wrong here I don't have a problem with restoring Fisheries back to their natural habitat but if that was the case it The Fishery that should have been restored was lower putah Creek from Lake Solano to the Sacramento River not above Lake Solano
It had nothing to do with the tree huggers dfg did not want stocked fish mixing with the steelhead below lake Solano dam that’s why they stopped stocking. I miss the old fishery too
I commented on your last fly video recently and I hate to say it.... You guys are complicating fly fishing for the beginner again... Czech nymphing, no reason to teach a newbie how to do that. Nick this was a hilarious video and Jordan is an awesome guy but you are overcomplicating the sport, I am sorry Nick. Tight Lines -J
JR, the intent of the show is to inform fisherman. Czech nymphing is actually a very simple form of fly fishing which I teach to beginner anglers regularly. Short cast no mend, get it down and get a grab. Nick has an introduction fly fishing video already with Matt Heron that is for all the basics. The fly fishing videos we are doing now are covering all the forms of fly fishing.
Thanks Jordan, I appreciate the comment. My concern is simply the idea of fly fishing to catch more fish... when people think fly fishing for the first time they think dry flies in small streams. To pass on a passion its best to cater to someones desires. I really do appreciate it though seriously! I wasn't expecting to get a comment back...

Great video; super knowledgeable. I love to fish Putah. Way to spread the word on the spawn! Favorite video you've done yet!
Good video. I am looking forward to fishing Putah Creek with Jordon in the next couple weeks.
I enjoy your fly episodes better than regular tackle!

I think those are different sizes of leader for the fly line
+James Ghan it's just different tippet diameters

What is your guys rod and reel setup for fishing putah creek 🤔
Awesome vid nick
Why does Cal DFW not close the whole spawning area during spawning season ?
Can you use weighted flies with ultra light spinning rod at Putah Creek???
they so informative about how to catch fish that in the end is, they spend most of their time explaining how to catch fish versus catching fish. Let's catch fish!!

Nick Hot7 its only on Putah Creek where Rainbow trout spawn in the Winter. Everywhere else they spawn in the spring.
do you need a fly rod here?
David Boswell technically you do not but it is all barbless hooks artificial lures only
This vid is hilarious!😂
+FishingWithLucas Thanks Lucas!

Why do the trout spawn in the fall/winter

Donald Jr - The DFG are everything we've come to expect from government. Incompetent, full of shit, and only concern is of their own Intrests.
Donald Jr any fish there rn 2017
