Nice honest video, good to see you acknowledge the “mistake” and make good. That’s quilting! I’m fed up with patterns that are too wasteful, fabric costs.
Nice job! Good info and thank you for a tutorial that is focused on the project and NOT on hands/nails! Hope to see the finished quilt! (or top)🙂 I also struggle with so much waste.
THIS is so very GREAT! Thank you for cutting ✂️ out the waste. I love this 💡 idea. I am a newer quilter, so your tips on getting the points to match really helped. I also appreciate that you fixed a mistake and didn't cut it out. It gives me hope. YOU demonstrate and explain very well. Thank you for sharing this with us 😊🧵🪡🌸💖🦓Liz
This was my very favorite pattern to make, so much so, I made it again. Watching you has inspired me to do it again. I’m pretty sure I have a 10” bundle in my fabric cabinet. Excited. 💜
Thank you for sharing your skills and knowledge. I think your block looks great and I love that there is no waste of fabric or time. A win, win for me.❤❤❤❤
Thank you!!! I just learned something and you just started sewing!! Dropping the needle into the valley is going to be a game changer for me! Cant wait to see what else I learn in this video Thank you for sharing your talents and time ❤❤
What a marvelous job you did figuring out this intricate block so much easier and more economical than the other methods. Thanks so much for sharing. Have a happy week sewing please let us seethe finished quilt
My friend Liz & I live on opposite sides of the courntry these days, but we share quilting across space & time. She found this video & shared your site with me--I loved that you showed us the whole process--even how to fix a mistake (heaven knows we newer quilters make those!)--subscribed because I really like how you demonstrate your very well thought out techniques. Thanks Jess
Glad you popped up in my feed 🪡🧵 Thank you for sharing this tutorial . I am going to try this when I sew later this afternoon ☺️ You were a joy to watch!
Thank you. I forgot to add that it will create a secondary pattern. So watch the placement of the diamonds I’m trying to figure out how to update the video
I'm glad I stumbled across your video. I wanted to make a Hunter's Star but the other ways were so omplicated. I wonered if you could just cut it the way you showed, and then yo did!
I have watched a couple of times. Great video! But I am confused where do the background triangles go and what is their measurements? I will watch again to see if I missed that part!
Good question! I didnt measure the large triangles, since all the blocks where cut from a 10 inch square. If you cut the 10inch square in half and then from the long side. cut 2.5 inches from the long edge.
Brilliant! Thank you. Because all the cuts are on bias, which I tend to distort, I would starch the layer cakes. Yes, it would require trimming the layer cakes bake to square and then beginning your technique but it would give me peace of mind. Ha.
While following the placement that I give you in the video. It helps create that secondary pattern that you see when you place the block together. This is how traditional star is made. with a dark center with light out sides or a light center with dark sides blocks
What’s the fabric youre using for this quilt and how big is the finished quilt? I’d love to make this quilt for my king size bed. Your instructions are wonderful and I love the no waste! Thank you!
The fabric I use was from Moda, designer Camille Roskelley Fabric line Dwell. It’s an older line. But you should still be able to find it on Etsy. Each block measures 9inches unfinished. So without borders I’m looking at 59.5 by 68. I’m making 7 per row by 8 down
I agree, many Hunter's Star patterns waste a lot of fabric. I understand you wanted to make a scrappy (color wise) Hunter's Star and that's ok , that's your way. But TIFFANY's QUILTING LIFE uses the same cutting method you do, just swaps certain pieces and ends up with a more traditional star.
each block coms out to 9 inches unfinished, so 8.5 inches finished. If you only use the layer cake and no yardage, you will get 42 blocks. With a 6 by 7 design, your looking at 52 by 60. I would add borders too. its a nice size throw
Your method is excellent, but I think the pattern disappears with the fabric placement. I have seen the Hunter's STR done "scrappy" with a variety of fabric, but the blocks were more orderly in their placement.
That’s definitely a n option. There’s so many ways to create blocks. Thank you for your comment. I’m sure it will help others think through how they might complete a project/block like this
Thank you!!! I just learned something and you just started sewing!! Dropping the needle into the valley is going to be a game changer for me! Cant wait to see what else I learn in this video Thank you for sharing your talents and time ❤❤
Thank you for this tutorial! A nice scrappy block.👏👏
Glad you like it!

i agree costs are going down. thank you

Ill add a short with the finished top. Im about 1/3 of the way through. Thanks for watching.
You are so sweet and pleasant. I agree about the waste. Plus I think the paper piecing takes longer. Lovely block.
Jess that was great
Thank you
Beautiful job. I've been sewing for over 50 years and still learned a lot from this video. Thanks, Kathy
Glad it was helpful! thank you for watching
Thank you. I made a quilt using this pattern, I couldn't believe the wastage of material. I will be making another quilt using your method.
Wonderful. Thank you for watching

Wonderful! Thank you. have fun watching
Brilliant!!
Speaking only for myself, because i find working with that much bias difficult, i mix up some starch. You did a great job!
Thank you
Love this no waste method I will be giving this a try. Thanks for sharing

Yay! Thank you!

I wonered if you could just cut it the way you showed, and then yo did!
It just takes practice lining up your diamonds and trapezoids. Can’t tell you how many I unpicked. But it’s a lovely design and fun.
Love this!
Thank you
This looks like the confetti star pattern that Jenny doan shows on missouri star
I’ll have to look it up. I don’t remember watching that tutorial. I hope you enjoyed watching
Will do. My daughter has the 2nd quilt and I just finished , years later, a small pillow for her from some of the half square triangles. ❤️
Great video! One of my YT Channel members put this video up in my Facebook group. I hope you have a joyful week ahead!
Thank you.
👋👋 🥰 no waste spot on. Thank you
Thank you

amazing... i tend not to starch precut fabrics. I do starch all my yardage.. Thank you for your comment. I hope you have found some inspiration! Enjoy
Awesome video
Thank you
How awesome you made this so much more doable. I am just trying fpp and not so thrilled with it. Thanks great video.
Your welcome Thanks for watching 😊
Beautiful, Jess!!
Thank you
Sorry I sent comment twice Question- how do you know were to use light fabric and where to place dark or doesn’t it matter?
While following the placement that I give you in the video. It helps create that secondary pattern that you see when you place the block together. This is how traditional star is made. with a dark center with light out sides or a light center with dark sides blocks

This is awesome. I detest FPP. Thank you!
your welcome.... Im not a huge fan myself, but I'll try anything once.
I agree that FPp wastes fabric!
Wish you had shown us the full star!!
Me too I wanted to see what it looked like this way.
Sometimes not crazy about the stretching plus I like to starch by fabric
Im working on it now. I hope to have it up this weekend. sorry for the cliffhanger

Cool. I have never seen that video from her. Amazing minds !!! lol.
Do u know how large a quilt is made from 1 layer cake of this pattern?
each block coms out to 9 inches unfinished, so 8.5 inches finished. If you only use the layer cake and no yardage, you will get 42 blocks. With a 6 by 7 design, your looking at 52 by 60. I would add borders too. its a nice size throw

Could you show blocks out together?
I will update this weekend
Your method is excellent, but I think the pattern disappears with the fabric placement. I have seen the Hunter's STR done "scrappy" with a variety of fabric, but the blocks were more orderly in their placement.
Yes I should have just kept it simple and used two fabrics per block for the video. I wanted a more scrappy looking quilt.
I am a student
@@Carcar-o2m cute!
This is the hard way to make the hunter star. It's very easy to make it with half square triangles.
That’s definitely a n option. There’s so many ways to create blocks. Thank you for your comment. I’m sure it will help others think through how they might complete a project/block like this
