Dan Bull is honestly one of the best writers on RUclips. That 'charge each other like batteries' line is a triple entendres. A battery as in electricity, but also as in a battery (artillery), as well as the base meaning. Absolutely nuts
Reece Lofty the “sengoku jidai, men offered to die, for the honour of a warrior’s life, the sun’s coming and we’re watching it rise, a new era’s here its as solid as iron” set shows it too
Sengoku jidai is the era of warring states in japan, which is also known as the land of the rising sun which directly ties in to his next line about a changing in era. His transition to the next verse was a direct reference to the setting of the previous one. Meanwhile the eras being as solid as iron, fixed, unchanging suggests that the same thing is still happening with men offering to die for a warrior’s life

There is also the fact that when you assault someone you are "charged" with "battery."
Also, a battery has a positive and a negative end. In a War, we always see one side as good, or positive, and the other side as bad, or negative.
This was the song that made me sit up and recognize Dan Bull as an actual artist and not just an ERB guest. The amount of creativity and skill it takes to go this long on a rap and stay on topic is insane.
Dan Bull crushes with the creativity of his raps. You should check out his Dishonored 2 rap if you like alliteration. Well he's got a lot of it in there, it's amazing. Also look at the Far Cry Primal rap, it's written with a great twist I think you'll like.
The Dishonored ones are fire. I think Dishonored 2 is his best work.
You shouldn't give away that special thing with the Far Cry Primal, it would be so nice to see Scru find that out on his own.

Far Cry Primal is his most creative work I think. Came here to say that, glad someone has. Dishonored raps are fire too! And Skyrim.
Stupendium and Dan Bull have worked together many times, he's really good. if you want to see them go against each other but not really a battle rap than watch Faith vs. Order. Each of them have a different ending too
stupendium is great. bull is more technical but stupendium gets my moods better lol

Stupes is more musical and theatrical in terms of rapping stupes is more verbose and stuffs more in his verses BUT
DAN BULL is insane with flow,alliteration and doubles
He is basically the eminem of nerdcore but stupes is just slightly behind him both are legends tho
This is one of the ones that cemented him as one of my favorite nerdcore rappers. I found him from his Skyrim rap, you should check out those ones.
Songs like this remind me that rap, at it's core, is basically poetry verbally recited over a sick beat.

I still think that this isn't just a powerful song on the internet for a game, it's just powerful full stop. I learned how to rap this while driving to and from work when it came out, and as a massive history and Civ buff, it just spells out the game and the history of humanity perfectly. Sometimes to listen to it, especially at the 20th century bit without getting a lump in the throat!

No offence to anyone that has already reacted to Dan Bull, but I’m so happy there is someone who knows what Dan is doing in the song. Hearing you break down the cadence, flow and voice changes he implements just makes me appreciate both of you so much more. I’ve been a fan of Dan since his Assassin’s Creed Revelations rap. A few of my favourite songs he has made that I think you would like are Horizon Zero Dawn, Dishonoured and Fallout 4.
Scru I really love how you break down each stanza like you do, cause me I'm only kinda just starting to fall in love with hip hop and rap, and watching you react is cool because you get into the nuts and bolts of what makes a good bar and it helps me appreciate the skill that goes into writing these verses.
At the same time it's always fun to watch you react in time with the music without pausing, I think my favorite reactions of yours are the ones where you break each verse down once but then listen to the whole piece without pausing afterwards.
Thanks again for all you do because you've taught me a lot and gotten me way hype about diving further into hip hop music!
Yeah this song was his absolute masterpiece, no other song will be ever able to catch it, because he went beyond the game, he used the game's franchise to practically give a history lesson in 5 minutes, in 5 minutes he practically talked about us as a Civilization.
"We Happy Few" is also a great song, taking into account the game.

Bro, listen through it once all the way and just listen to how he goes in waves. With each passing age he talks about, the music hits a crescendo. It really gives me chills once he gets to exploring space and you look back and see how far you've come in just a short time. And definitely the Fallout 4 SPECIAL rap is a great one to follow up with.
My Dad got me into this game. He is addicted to it. I always played the Mayans, I think? I remember the leader was a short, buff woman. This brought back MEMORIES.
Dan bull has a ton of amazing songs, my personal favorites are dishonored 1 and 2, assassins creed 3, baby in a backpack, bard rap and skyrim dawngaurd.

No joke man this is BY FAR one of my most favorite channels let alone reaction channels. And its mainly cuz of the breakdowns. The way Scru breaks down these videos and noticing the tiny details shows how much he actually cares which is a rarity for react channels. Dan's Dragon Age Inquisition rap is personally one of my favorites, highly recommend that one
Works best if you've played the game to catch all the name drops and plot points.
Dan Bull's vocabulary is out of this world. Almost anything he drops inspires me to get up and get shit done
I wind this up with some Strong mid range and it gives me Chills.
What I thought was awesome is that he combined most of the premade intros from the various Civilization 5 versions and wrote a rap that flows with what is going on in the intros.
Love the breakdowns man, appreciate you giving Dan Bull some love! My personal favs from him are his Destiny and Dark Souls 3 raps, love to see you give them a listen!
