I miss the Ibanez ATKs with the necks designed by Dave Bunker. I found a bass with one of his "tension free" necks in a GC once and it was the best bass I had ever played. Went back the next day to buy it and it was gone, biggest mistake I ever made. I might end up getting one of my basses retro-fitted with one of the necks now that it's available.
I was just playing my ATK :). They're really great instruments. I didn't know about the models with that special neck, I'll have to look into those! I saw an ATK800 (walnut finish) on Reverb, similar setup to mine. Where can I get info on those necks?

Here is his website bunkerguitars.com/, I think his son is running the business now, and here is a listing for an older ATK with one of the necks. reverb.com/ca/item/1074595-rare-usa-american-ibanez-atk-dave-bunker-custom-1993-green To my understanding, the point is for the titanium rod to take the tension of the strings, and all adjustment to come from that, as opposed to the neck taking the tension and adjusting the neck itself with a normal truss rod. They wanted $700 for a used David Bunker custom bass at GC, at the time $700 was a lot for me. If I ordered the same thing now I'd probably be paying $3500-4000 xD

I never get tired of your videos in my free time ahahahah! It's pretty good to see that this model is still object of some reviews in 2020, if you consider that its production was stopped in 2013. That was the model chosen for being the Ibanez Premium version of the classic ATK. I've owned two ATKs in my life: once in 2007 a 300 model in natural tone before to sell it one year later, then in 2010 I've chosen a 310 BK, sold after four years. This was seriously the most beloved bass I've ever owned: I was forced to sell both of them for the same reason every time....their weight! I have several hernias to my back then its dimensions gave me only but problems. I've sold them always with a tear on my eyes. Twice. Sad story for me. By the way, I've liked it (talking about the 300 and 310, Made in Indonesia) at such a level that I preferred them over the original StingRay: you got almost the same tone and a lot of personality at less of a quarter (in Italy) of the original StingRay's price! That's cool. I never considered a bass to sound like other basses. It's usually one that crosses genres, not manufactures. My mind is hurting right now from being blown.
The only issue I've had with Ibanez is getting replacement parts on older guitars. I have a 2017 SR805 That has a twisted neck. They won't make me a new one, even if I pay for it. It just happens to be a fluke though. Because I have 4 others with no issues.
This kind of bass is the dream of sound engineers like me - cut straight through the mix in any situation! The higher frequencies of basses are highly underrated. This is a ridiculous bass for the price. I think I'll get one for the studio!
Another fun fact is that the TripleBucker are rail pups and sized to work as a 4 or 5 string pickup as long as you didn't have something like 19mm spacing on a 5 stringer...

Love the ATK! Though technically its a triple-bucker pickup with a ghost coil. I had one of the earliest iterations and and it was a tone monster! It weighed a lot for a 4 stringer though... I wonder if it'd give the Peavey T-40 a run for its money in that department....
Seems like there's something up with my device output or something up with the recording but I hear alot of distortion but I've played one of these in person and with a little more low end they sound like everything a Stingray wanted to sound like but just Dosent

I believe these were discontinued in 2018 or 2019 sadly. However, they do come back all the time. I believe this was the third or fourth iteration of the ATK. You can still find them used pretty often and usually for a solid price.

While playing in my band, I've owned & used; 2 different Zon's, Spector, Fender Jazz, MM Sterling (hard, aggressive music detuned). At one point I didn't have the MM any longer so I went into Bass Northwest (RIP) & bought an ATK 4 string. I showed up at practice & got thoroughly mocked for having this bass. After the laughter died down my guitar player said "Dude, what happened? You've always had killer basses?" I really didn't have an explanation, so at a reunion show my friend let me borrow his MM Stingray. Anyway, being embarrassed for the first time by my band members & friends wasn't fun. I quickly got rid of that bass & now have a Modulus. Looking back at it,, the bridge plate thing is totally ugly as well as the head stock (in my opinion). I don't know what I was thinking.

I never understood why Ibanez did give up on ATK models... It sounds and looks so good !!! They now have those Talman, but they seem so much like a copy of something already existing. That ATK has so much more personality... Btw, where did you find that ‘little’ gem ?

BUT... You have brought out a couple models that are pretty f-ing sweet. This one in particular, I really like this one. "Damn you ibenez" Also, those faces are crucial. It wouldn't sound the same without them. Thank you for sharing, add softening my heart to ibenez. They should give you a fee, bastards.
Thanks! I know what you mean. My first guitar (before I played bass) was a cheap Ibanez and it was terrible. My third bass was also an Ibanez Ergodyne which was garbage. It's funny that their best basses are often their more obscure ones. They're on a roll lately though.

I actually own a sr500, that I bought for the bartolini pickups and then I thought how much I hated the dull dark brown so I took it apart and got some colored stains and did a fun stripe of blue,green and purple and now I'm just to vein not to part it out, I guess. It sounds nice, and I think if I wasn't so accustom to my lovely Ric and the Jazz style I might enjoy playing it. I can see why guitar players would flock to them. But since I made the big switch...I don't know, it feels kind of dirty. I'm turning into a bass snob, wow, I guess if that's the worst of my problems, I'm a pretty lucky duck. Picking up a ATK 305 5H !! Looking forward to playing it!!! I do wish I had the J pickup as well but I’m fine with just the MM style pickup!
I have a huge soft spot in my heart for the ATK305 and ATK300’s. I own 2 305’s 1 300 and two paul gray signature ATKs
