Stopped selling on eBay years ago. Sold a letter folder and shipped it. About 10 days after the person got it, sends me an email saying it was damaged. Long story short had them send it back to me and it was not the one I sent them. I just walked away from it.
I'm looking forward to getting my first FT-891 in a month or two. Digirig will be a part of that package. (Setting up EmComm for the truck, so 3 in total are scheduled.)
The only problem is that if you don't fight the fraud, you are effectively condoning it and allowed the next person to suffer the same fraud. Making it important to put the crook to task.
Was there any chance the Shipping Carrier had someone pilfer the item and it was not the Radio Operator? I have 2 DigiRigs and use them for FlDigi and APRS. Thx Denis for a great product.
Just like several others I've been screwed as a seller on ebay, and luckily it was for around $40 over 10 years ago. Good to see he took it in stride and I'll have to pick up a digirig for my KX3 in the near future.
I once received an empty envelope that was supposed to contain the item I ordered from ebay. I returned the envelope that clearly showed that it never contained any item. I did receive a refund.
I don't respect him for taking the "high road" as was said by others before, the ham radio conmunity still has to deal with this guy. Actions have consequences. Always. The consequences of letting this guy get away with this will effect other hams and other businesses down the road.
That sad what happened to Denis. I have his products from Gigaparts and got the discount from Jason's link in the past. Working with Dennis I was able to get my QT 60 doing digital modes and his Anytone cable set worked. He updated the cable listing to include the AT 5555 N II . It works great . I sent SSTV threw a MURS and FRS radio with the Digi rig threw my laptop . Even CB. I even hooked a Digi rig to a shortwave radio and gotten weather maps . decoding RTTY and much more. 73
When it comes to radios it’s just not worth buying used especially off eBay. But as a buyer eBay does have good protections. I’ve used it twice with people who tried to sell me something they knew was broke. As far as being a seller I don’t deal with people who have less than 50 good and recent feedback on items of decent value. Never sell to someone with zero or less than 20 feedback.
I will never sell anything on Ebay - been screwed trying to sell things just like this in the past, multiple times. Ebay always sides with the buyer, no matter what you do. It just not worth it.
I have four Digirigs that I bought direct from Digirig, and they are some of the best gear anyone could purchase. I actually use a Signalink USB on my FT-891 because I like being able to quickly adjust the transmit audio as I go through the bands. The ALC tends to be higher on the higher HF bands, and I typically have the audio set so that I transmit 30 watts I have set in the radio while keeping the ALC at zero. 73 KD5YOU
When I had my computer shop years ago I ran an EBay store. Life was good. I sold both new and used parts with the used parts being thoroughly tested before putting it up for sale and again before shipping. I made good money. But them the trolls got on there. I started having the same issues. Returned product even used that stated all sales final. No recourse from EBay. On;y out right ripped off once. But after a while the expenses started to build up. Costs both ways. I finally gave up EBay. Was just way to much. I started selling off my own web site. With fine print in big, bold letters. All returns where through RMA. You payed to return it, and I would pay back your original shipping if it was not working. Or you could pay a restocking fee. Worked fine till I sold the shop, and retired. Went back to work for the new owner after about a year part time. Then finally retired to the lap of lugjury. Huge 1 bedroom apt in the basement of the building. HUGE RFI problems. Have it all now!
@@KrunkTheMadMan OH ya the fees. They weren't so bad when I started. But Ebay was mostly an auction site. Not the online overpriced mall it has become.
Allow me to play devil's advocate for a second- and this is aimed at sellers of USED equipment. A vast majority are including a phrase similar to this: "Being sold as inoperative/for parts/junk due to parts swappers." That's fine and all BUT if you claim it works, but it shows up not working, the buyer has no recourse. THAT SAID, if you are listing it as inoperative/for parts/junk, then you really shouldn't be asking used market value price for it, ESPECIALLY for decades-old radios. You should be asking inoperative/for parts/junk prices because, as I said, the buyer has no recourse if it actually arrives in inoperative/for parts/junk condition. I'm sorry, but a radio from the 80s listed with those descriptors is a $100 radio at best.
*digirig* 😎 I'll have to check that out. p.s. @Jason, I'm gonna need a 36-month Membership Badge in a couple months, can you create something with a little more Sparkle? *😂* 🌟
Selling on ebay. Best way is to have them mail a money order. Esp postal money order. If they dont like it. Too bad.. i had a pos buy a radio and software. Say it was bad. Put a tracking number on an envelope and sent it back. Thats when i deleted paypal. Mail me a money order. No returns. Too bad. ✌️. Also edit ebay profile to not allow low feedback ppl. My 857 has a digirig ✌️
More information required. It's way out of the ordinary for an extra class licensee with a vanity call (that costs almost as much as a Digirig) to engage in mail fraud. Are we sure the licensee lives at the shipping address (aka identity theft, although it's hard to imagine anyone else wanting a Digirig, but who knows)? An extra class licensee with dementia or some other mental illness maybe? We need to review any e-mail, phone or written postal correspondence that went back-forth between the Digirig owner and the buyer to properly sort this one out.
I've bought an IC-7100 and my IC-706 MKIIG off of ebay. Never had any problems yet. Maybe the buyer made a mistake and forgot to pack the item or whatever. Give them the benefit of the doubt. If that's not the case, continue reading... However, the scammer should be called out, by their callsign. Better yet, find out if they belong to a club and pass the info along to the members. Let them know that there's a thief in the mist and they can handle it however want, preferably the Old School Way. Dude probably needs a hands on lesson on why stealing is bad for your face, and your teeth.

Yeah I've had that happen
You will get zero help from eBay as a seller either.

In my experience, eBay doesn't help you as the seller.
Sorry, I left that hanging. I hope they are better than that if you're a buyer. I only had one problem and the seller handled it.
Digirig, and Dennis, are second to none. Incredible customer service and a great product.
That’s not a high road. That’s enabling the trash to keep ripping others off. Expose the thief.

I guess there's always that chance, but from how I read the article, the envelope was sealed when Denis received it

He isn’t responsible for the other guy’s actions. His job is not law enforcement.
Love my Digirigs, esp. the 891 specific model. Got several for my non-soundcard radios and they all work well and easy to setup.
A lot of ebay sucks, scammers, fees, time ebay takes to pay you and so on :-(
There is so much funky stuff to outright fraud on eBay I quit selling or buying on eBay!!! It is sad!

If he really wanted to take the high road he would not have posted it on Reddit at all.
This just validates my past decisions to purchase Digirig Equipment. Top quality gear and obviously top-quality people!!
Just ordered my own digirig off the website

My experience exactly, then there are the fees....

Great product, have had one for years, Great attitude Dennis
