  • The Punks formed in Waterford, Michigan in 1973. Active participants in the Detroit 70s rock & roll (what we now call Proto-Punk) scene, they were often compared to the likes of The Stooges, The MC5, (their two most prominent influences) The Dogs and Death. The Punks fit the Detroit sound of the time for sure, but definitely add their own flair or thunderous guitars and blistering energy. In 1977, the band split and relocated to New York City where they became 'The End'. These tracks are assorted demos and rehearsal recordings of the group, compiled in 2003 for a record entitled "The Most Powerful Music on Earth"., which was then distributed by Rave Up Records in 2005.
There is a documentary in the works by Bennett Phillips called " My Time's Coming: The Story of the Punks" (vimeo.com/170396583)

I remember this band - The Punks from when i was 16. I really loved it back then & still do. Here in Australia we used to have some good bands as well. Garage bands paved the way through that crappy Disco scene then to every genre of music. Heavy Metal/ Thrash. History will repeat itself, now & in the future. From an Original Punk.

Well, this settles it. This is the original band. All the others ripped them off. I hear some DK, some Flag, some Ramones in all this, or this in them. The fucking rip off Rolling shit stone always gives the credit the bands making the big music mafia money , when there are endless bands doing it before them (and I love the Ramones). Check out the song "Drop Dead". I believe it's at 16:48. I think this band is a bridge between protopunk and punk itself. Maybe they were post-proto? 😂

Pretty sure this ain’t real. Neither is Michigan. Not a state. Punk didn’t start in the “Midwest”*.
*Not real either. Mid west? Commit to a side.

@@davesexgang6186 I don't know if this is why the band chose this name, but I was a teenager back in the late 1960s, early 1970s, "punk" was an insult adults would use for teenager delinquents or even just one's who would not conform to that adult's rules, an "insolent" or "disobedient" teen kid was "punk". This is also why Lenny Kaye (in 1972 when he produced the first Nuggets anthology) decided to use the term "punk rock" for a certain sort of raw-edged rock from the 1960s that is now considered "proto-punk".
