I was attending Roosevelt High School in 1979 in Boyle Heights. The school would have lunch hour Dj's and live bands. The Plugz played lunch time in the winter of 79. Was the best live gig I saw at the time. The whole lunch crowed went crazy and a food fight started when the band was finishing their set. One of the bands roadies started throwing their debut album into the crowd of students. I was lucky to catch one, and till this day I still have the record in my collection.

In 1999 I had the pleasure of playing on a record with Charlie (RIP) I played bass, and I was totally ignorant of this band. At the time he had already played with Soul Asylum, Cracker and Joan Osborne, I don't think he had started playing in Social Distortion yet? The album we played on was a Japanese pop star's record, she went by the name Hal (still at it I believe) and she was young, turned 20 during the session. Gary Thorstensen from Tad played guitar, we were assembled as a band by Steve Fisk, who produced it, and we recorded in Seattle in Pearl Jam's studio, a weird alignment of things at the same moment. The record was poppy, along the lines of Mary Lou Lord. Charlie blew my mind, the best drummer I have worked with. He lived in Canada at the time and when we finished and he went home, he got turned back at the border and ended up back at the studio. I had some great conversations with him. Was so bummed to hear he had passed. So glad to catch up and listen to this important band, they were amazing. Thanks for posting this!
Seriously underrated band and album. Remember a great show with them at the Hong Kong Cafe on the same bill with X and the Human Hands.

I saw them playing with The Gears and The Human Hands. I think it was at The Starwood. They had just come back from a tour of Texas and were playing songs from their not yet released second album as well as songs from this album. I think it must have been the summer of 1980.

Yep, a lot of that Phoenix crowd made their names in LA when they moved out here around 1978. David Wiley with the Human Hands, Paul Cutler with BPeople, Jimmy Don Bolles with the Germs, both Paul and Jimmy Don in 45 Grave.
When this came out it's the only thing I listened to for like 2 months.....

my youth life was spent in the mountains of Colorado, watching Repo Man, finding any and all punk cool stuff I could, dreaming of living in LA....
They most certainly do. Just has to be the right type of person. Plenty of people in California/LA couldn't give less of a shit about it too.

Its 2024 and I got here after listening to The Real Kids All kinda girls.Which I only got too after a DJ played it at a Kelly Stoltz gig.Better late than never!!

Literally found them about an hour ago , I'm grateful af but being 21 and hearing shit like this has me wishing I was in my teens in the 70s , bands like The Saints , Creepersin , Bad Brains , Dead Boys , Fear , Buzzcocks etc do that for me

Without question one of the best punk rock records out of The first wave of Los Angeles punk.Oddly not as well known as some of it's contemporary "rivals" it's as good if not better than anyone else's.

I found these guys on the REPO MAN soundtrack. I find out later that its basically a completely different band. I do like the two songs on the soundtrack, but yeah, this is a different vibe altogether.
It is actually the same band. Check out their second album (which I do like a bit more); it sounds a little closer to the songs on the RM soundtrack (not to mention the one that's actually on there): ruclips.net/video/EuhWvmTco74/видео.html
Tito's best work for sure. Better Luck was also good though they were moving in a more radio friendly direction. Saw them play a bunch in LA back in the day. Unfortunately lost all my Vinyl LP's in a storage mishap back in the 90's but I do have this on CD.

@@SilasFiction - New Wave Hookers. Infamous for the film being recalled once it was revealed that Traci Lords was under 18. All future releases of the film removed Traci Lords scenes entirely.

@@frillwhistlebell Yes, they both came out on CD. I was lucky enough to find them both in a mall record store cut-out bin for like $5 each, sometime in probably 1989 or so. I still thank my lucky stars I had the good sense to grab them then-I've never seen them anywhere else again (except online for crazy $$).
