"Gas Mathematics" aka Shaq spends 3 minutes trying to say that it feels less psychologically painful if you fill up a gas-guzzler 1/4 tank at a time when it gets to half full.
Shaq saying that Kenny is complaining about the $80. at the end of the week. So instead of paying $80 dollars, Kenny should just stop for gas mid week and pay $40. instead. Also, Shaq think Kenny is overstating how much he travels back and forth to work, and doesn't think Kenny will use a full tank of gas in a week, so his actual total will be less than $40, probably more like $20. Not easy to figure it out. Shaq is the actual genius while you and the majority are just regular people.
@@randombutspecific Yea but that is not the argument. The argument is about coming out of pocket with $80 each time. So instead of paying that amount, just break it up into incriments of $40. Yes the total amount is still the same but each payment is lesser than the full amount.
i think that Shaq is so smart that he understands that emptying your gas tank completely will put extra stress on the fuel sender pump, thus requiring a sooner than average replacement schedule
I have a Phd in physics and a minor in computational math... if you think gasoline efficiency does not depends on chemistry then your brain is worthless
Full tank on monday. Take it to half. Add $20 worth (3/4). Take it another half (1/4). Put in another $20 (half). You've taken the car out a total of a full tank of gas, and it only cost you $40 to get it to half. It's the exact same as you taking it from full to zero then back to half full, but it FEELS like you've gamed the system a bit. To Kenny's point, you're stopping more, but to Shaq's point, you aren't hurting nearly as much at each stop. Spreading the pain.
Yeah but if you just went 80-0 and then filled it to half , it still costs u 40 and u stop once. I get your point of spreading the pain but I don't see any money or gas being saved either way. Which I think was the whole point of the discussion. But your explanation is way better than Shaq 's to be fair😂😂
But do we think this guy is worried about not having $80 in his bank account or about that $80 of gas doesn't drive that car very far, regardless of how often he visits the gas station?
True story: My Dad did that, fill up on gas everytime it went to half. He did that so much that the fuel gauge broke and miss read. When it got to half it meant empty. I drove his car one day thinking I had half a tank left and i ran out of gas on my way home from work.
@@scyorkshire2496 But Shaq is still wrong because his whole thing was how Kenny can save money on gas but the there’s no actual way to save money on gas that what Shaq doesnt understand. Like Kenny said no matter how much you put in it equals the same amount of gas. If you keep putting in $20 everytime it gets to half all you are doing is going to gas station more frequently and who wants to do that.
Ernie's absolutely funniest moment ever. I was losing it before he put his head in his hand that but I laughed my guts out completely at that moment. The Basketball Hall of Fame has to find room to put this video on display somewhere...
Shaqs talking about the amount spent at any one time. He’s talking about stopping to refill before it goes to empty. Yes he will have to stop more often, but he won’t be spending 80 every time he stops. Shaq I gotchu 😎
Shaq has a point here. . But kennys take is that you have to stop every now and then to just fill it up which is correct, I am actually doing that for years. . My full tank costs around $50, so once it reaches half, my gas is actually around $25 to fill it up in full. Or you can will it up just by $12.5 to reach 3/4 full. . I know its the same amount of money but it will depend on your travel. If you use your car everyday, nothing is different except you are spending not a full 50 bill but increments of it. But if you go out on random every week, its beneficial though.
I understand what Shaq was trying to say. He is saying if you only fill in the amount little by little you won't need to feel like you paid a lot in one refill for your car. Kenny was complaining about paying 80 dollars every time he fills up gas. It actually helps me lower my cost too, knowing that i honestly don't need that much to get through the week. I started filling it when it hits half way rather than always wait till it goes all the way down then refill it.
Viva Dominicana he's point is that kenny wouldnt use the car as much as others since he only goes to work twice a week and doesn't need to spend as much on gas

This has made a come back on Last Week Tonight. Money Saving Tip: Only fill the tank to half. That way the car is not carrying the heavy full fuel load and the mileage will improve. Try to keep the tank up more than half for regular short trips.
Shaq isn't arguing about fuel efficiency, he is saying purely that if you are not wanting to pay 80 all at once to completely fill your tank, you can just fill it up 20 dollars at a time, which for someone like Kenny would be fine since he doesnt travel that often to and from the studio.
He's talking about thinking about the cost in increments being less shocking than thinking about the whole 80 dollars. Then it went sideways comparing distance to cost trying to fit in the 20 dollars into it.. hes confused ahaha
Shaq is correct. He's not saying the total amount would be less he's saying it's less painful to pay $20 four different times than paying $80 once. If on a pain scale it hurts at a level 7 paying $80 it once than it hurts at level 1 to pay $20. The total pain is less at 4 vs 7. He's saying it's less painful to pay less money more often than pay more less often.
