Hey there! My name is Jimmy and I live in Sweden.
Yeah I like to eat meatballs but I also fancy Indie Shooters quite a lot and I also like to dig out the hidden gems, show them to you and support the indie scene all while making the most entertaining videos this planet has ever seen. (or maybe not)

Thanks for watching!
I love the brutality of Disdain, the gore just hits right, the music is adrenaline infusing and everything feels like it's done by a true veteran with passion!
What are your thoughts?
For me the #1 90's boomer shooter was Quake 1. It's fast paced and many enemies are melee or projectile based, incentivizing movement a lot more than it's peers. More movement and less cover peekaboo is my kind of boomer shooter and Quake 1 popularised it so I respect the name. I have almost 100 hours in the remastered version.
Nowadays I prefer Dusk and Hrot because they follow the Quake formula without the parts that I find annoying like some enemies forcing you into the peekaboo style or some narrow sections where you're not allowed to move very well but without Quake 1 these would not exist.
Disdain also looks extremely promising in the same ways.
w opinion + try shadow warrior 2 you will play it non stop
It looks and sounds the part of a Quake-like! Gameplay looks amazing and the atmospheric music outside of arenas is probably the best of that unnerving style since Quake 1's.
I love the arena music but you get a big agree, the ambient music is top!
Surprise Sunday Disdain Zlim Video Drop Ultra Omega HYPE
Some of the best Splatt Sounds i've heard All Day
SUPLISEEE
Man it's so good, I could have the super shotty blasting off a head on repeat
@@ZlimBratSkiAfter watching the whole thing I have to say you did a good job here! This game has only been like, somewhere in the back of my mind, you managed to push it aaaaall the way to my forehead
Very very glad to hear that maggie, this will have Multiplayer upon release as well so there is community night potential here @@Maggotbrain5359
When you first mentioned Gzdoom, thought for sure you misspoke and meant quake, then you explained further. Wow absolutely amazing what they've done with that engine, and the gameplay looks badass. And to answer your question my favorite old school shooter is probably Shogo.
♥Shogo. Not only because it's fun, but also for the "you're dating the sister of your dead girlfriend while working for here dad and then she's not dead"-storyline. Forget Cthulu and Satan, that's the real uncomfortable scenario.
Its wizardry at it's finest haha, its from the same developer that brought us Nashgore mod for doom :)
Aah I know of Shogo but I never played it, did it ever have a remaster of any sort?
@@ZlimBratSki Surprisingly no, I think I remember a sequel in the works many years ago but nothing ever came of it. It had some unique weapons and the multiplayer was fun. The single player had a weird story, but was cool. Part of the time you played in a mech, and part of the time you were on foot.
@@MekkabloodMech was all you had to say, need to check it out
Wrath is also a love letter to Quake 1
It sure is :)
Those screaming heads must be a reference to Mr Vampire (a great 80's Hong Kong movie). Downloading the demo now, this seems super cool.
They do look asian so could very well be 😁
Nash Gore is one of the doom mods I always have installed. All in all crazy how he converted gzdoom into quake-like. In fact I would never haved guessed, it was not quake.
Complete and utter magic at work here for sure 😁
Bro...amazing vid. Your channel rocks
Thank you 🤘😁
I will never get enough of these types of games !🤘 and videos from Zlim🤩
I had to pause the video and play it myself! And HELL YES Quake "borrowing" bleeds from every crack and I love it
And Yeah Quake 1 is my favorite game of the series also! Blood and Doom I+II share second place!
aaawww man your the best
These heads, man. Everything reminds me of her...
I'm sorry man :(
@@ZlimBratSki It's a meme
@@LazarheaDhaha I know, I just went along with it
Me too brother, me too
Wait
And now I'm really reminded of her...
So crunchy, so crisp... this is totally awesome! Great vid Zlim
Thanks brother Garth! 💪😁
Those heads remind me of those annoying blue enemies in Quake that explode when they get near you
Oo yeah 😮
supershotgun:doom shotgun:quake 1 the gunner basic enemies:blood sword healing mechanic: ultrakill(not 90s but anyway) theme enviroment and mechanics: quake 1 chaingun: doom
Pretty spot on! And the overall aesthetics and environments: Quake
Dude this game looks like a ton of fun - my kind of game. The gore, the gross sounds, the hilarious screaming heads, good stuff 👍
I do hope there will be level variety though. Though I do dig the quake castle style, it can get samey
From sneak peaks that I have seen, it looks to stay with the tone but there will be variety aside from the "castle"
The castle theme can get "samey" only in the hands of the inept designer.
Speaking of Quake people have tried to create Quake TCs for GZDoom none of them were completed sadly they are just demos but yeah Disdain looks awesome
"You don't see screaming heads like girls in video games that often" - Zlim's review 10/10 🤣
Hahahaha I sounds so stupid 😂
Hoooolyy.... the screaming heads!!! This game looks amazing!
soooo goood :D
the gore in this game is fucking awesome
It's freaking magnificent!
Now that I see this game again, I want to play it more and more.
Goood, good ✊😁
@@ZlimBratSkithe screaming heads though 😂
Ha! I am playing through every Quake game now as we speak! (type)
Awesome! Hope we get Quake 6 soon 😁
Ok you sold me, I gotta download the demo now.
Sweeet! Hope you have a great time 😁
I'm glad Nash is going commercial with this one, his mods have been essential tweaks any time i play a Doom mod and i can't wait to support this one. Have you tried Peril? Is an awesome somehow underrated Quake total conversion that blew my mind, it's essentially a story sequel to Quake 1.
I havent tried Peril yet, I will sure have to check it out thanks :)
DISDAIN! time to play the demo AGAIN! (also realized it's not on my Wishlist???!! The SHAME!!)
SHAME ON YOU OSH! 😁❤️
And to think that this game originally started as a 10 day gamejam project, and ended up being so beloved that now it will became a full game.
Also, this game has the advantage of being developed by nash muhandes, one of the actual devs of gzdoom, so if anything, he has the full knowledge on how to make the most out of the engine (I think he even programmed a custom version of gzdoom that features quake styled shadowmaps)
I prefer doom because of modding, but quake1 because of lovecraftian vibes while being action focused.
Did you ever play the 10 day jam? I never got around to it 😁
Oh yeah for sure, nash is talented like crazy!
Fantastic video Zlim. I remember the title in the stream and glad that the dev put so much effort in it and it became that good. It had already a lot of potential back then. My fav old school shooter is blood when it comes to level design. But for the overall design I will always prefer doom for the sci-fi - hell - monsters - setting. Quake of course is also fantastic. Was a great fan of quake 3 arena as a former unreal tournament fan. Short said I love em all, but doom will always have the biggest place in my heart. 😁 keep on rockin and showing these gems bro 💪love your enthusiasm for these games
Ah so cool you remember the stream way back :D Also love the answer "Love em all" perfect :D
@@ZlimBratSki The stream was awesome and the dev of the game was a very nice person too. 😊
Iirc this game is being made by Nash, the creator of the Nash gore mod for Doom, which you can tell by how aweomse the gore is on this XD
Oh yeah, love nash's magic with gore :D
I don't know how you make and put 3D objects in GZDoom but sure will try to find out. This looks awesome.
btw. Notice the blood dripping from the ceilings.
I hope you find the answer 😁
Ooo yeah its beautiful, just like in the Nash gore mod 😁
Actually, crude custom 3D models have been in Doom sourceports since the early 2000's.
They just got better over time, as modders improved their artistic skills and managed
to extend engine's support for 3D assets taken from other 3D games. Once this became
possible, the horizon for what may appear in an advanced ID-Tech1 sourceport like that -
became pretty much infinite.
This looks neat! I'll be honest, I've personally always preferred Duke 3D and Hexen to Quake and Doom. I guess that explains why Ion Fury is my favorite of the recent boomer shooters, though of course I've also enjoyed plenty others including the Quake-like Dusk.
Totally respect that! Glad we all think and feel a bit different 💪😁
Nice,it has good things from both doom and quake.
Exactly! Perfect combination :D
@@ZlimBratSki got into the demo there, wowza, top notch
Quake I feel should have had more bosses at the end of episodes there was only a boss at the end of E1 and then of course the final boss of the game. Ultimate Doom except for E4 had a new boss enemy at the end of each episode. Wolfenstein 3d had bosses at the end of each episode. I'm not sure why Id didn't include more bosses in Quake maybe it was a time constraint thing.
There were different level designers working for each episode in quake, they were not really going at it together with a plan 😅
what engine is this? gzdoom cool :o but why not use the Quake engine?
The developer for this is a co developer for GZDoom :)
That looks sweet, though the supershotgun get's a minus point because with that grey ringthing around the barrels it looks too much like a chaingun.
Bleeeeh now your being to picky Seal 😁
Let's not forget that in the complex chain of events the universe created that brought us to this very comment chain, at some point i had to pick a video and i pickety-picked yours, so i think we agree that i am a pretty good picker, and i will continue to pick
🧐
omw to installing this game
i have gotten into boomer shooters recently and im proud i did, its all because of the memories when i played postal brain damaged when it first came out, probably 2 years ago? but i wish to find a similar game to it and ultrakill, i would be pleased to find such games if you can upload some movement retro fps games.
Thanks for this game tho, it seems lotta fun.
Here you go :) ruclips.net/video/yRs7qtqrAP8/видео.html
@@ZlimBratSki the fuck? i havent seen this video, tysm
Looks great, probably gonna try out the demo
Do it brother, you wont regret it :)
My favorite oldschool fps must be Quake 1 and Unreal. Simple as that
Awesome!
Ohh this looks great
Neat meat 😁
Oh nice, I translated the demo for this one, was nice :D Virvius soon (unless you did it already)?
Ah nice!! :D
No Virvius unfortunately, I covered it in the upcoming series and I played it a few times, it just doesn't hold good enough quality to make a video on.
@@ZlimBratSki Thanks for the info :D
The video was awesome as always, but the intro caught me off guard xD
It's too bad they didn't give you the option to bind specific weapons in this demo. Probably can do through the console.
You can rebind them in the EA release :D The demo is outdated
Bro this demo is fire
played it a few months ago
End product should be wicked sick🤘
Cant wait for the end product uuuggghhh its to cool 😁
DUKE NUKEM 3D IS MY FAVORITE RETRO FPS. dusk no like. quake 2 no like much. Quake 1 like, but no much. This games see quake, play like quake. Is good. Wrath i like much.
Much like 😁
Game looks awesome hope it comes out for switch
It wont :( GZDoom games are not compatible with consoles at all unfortunately
Another game that's been sitting on my wishlist for a good time now. Good thing they take their time, would be a shame if something this promising would be wasted in haste.
Oh yeah for sure! While patience is def not my strong suit, I can wait for greatness 😁
Any word a release date yet?
soon early access
All I know from the dev is that there will be more news regarding Disdain very soon :)
this game is like dusk
Not quite but some similarities for sure :)
My favourite retro shooter is Half-Life 1
I would never have guessed with your name 😁
This game is too difficult because of enemies tend to have ridiculously high amount of damage even in easy mode. They need to be nerfed….for real.
hmm don't agree on that at all. Which enemies do you find the hardest?
@@ZlimBratSki even the mob with shotgun can tear you off in few shot with ridiculously fast fire rate, each shot can chunked off up to 20hp and you’re pretty much lifeless in seconds if you don’t act quickly, that is the problem and I’m not going to mention other monsters either because they are just even worse to beat unless cheat code is enabled. I don’t recall I have that same experience on quake 2 remastered, that game is actually more balanced. At least you’re never get morphed by a shotgun guard instantly or chipped away by enforcer in seconds.
@@tysonhughes3711 Well I didnt feel it was too hard even on hard difficulty and I'm not that good either. But maybe easy needs to be easier to learn how the game works.
@@ZlimBratSki well I later learnt that I’ll be dead meat if I’m being cornered by more than 2 mobs. Which the same experience will not replicates on quake 2 remastered, you are most likely survived to bunch of shotgun guards.
Maybe I should completely relearn the game mechanism as it may work differently compare to other boomer shooters, however it doesn’t mean I’m suck at it, because even today’s call of duties series don’t have that ridiculous fire rate and fire power, and I also played halo and serious sam, earth defense forces too.
Not gonna lie. Played the demo 5 odd months ago, and looked pretty basic and underwhelming.Looks much improved since then, and I'm going to look at its development more closely
Its one worth keeping an eye on 😁
Ah I love me my NIN Games for Quake likes @ZlimBratSki
Hekk yeah :)
