@@baseupp12 As much as I detest how Endeavor treated his family, I still don't blame Endeavor for scarring his son. His mother went bonkers and attacked her son. While yes Endeavor drove her into insanity, she still attacked her own son. It was an accident. Endeavor didn't mean for it to happen. Ozai straight up fire blasted Zuko in the face, there was no unintentional consequences of abusing a spouse. Ozai knowingly assaulted his own son.
Wonder if he would have killed Azula. Like the only hesitation he would have is that he has to kill his prodigal daughter. And even then Azulon wouldn't want to let such a prodigal child just be slaughtered carelessly.
I know Ozai is essentially pure evil with no redeemable qualities, but I was kind of hoping that he actually would help Zuko make good decisions. It would have at least been a way to show he wasn't just a completely worthless human being. It does make sense considering he is essentially just supposed to be a child abusing, murderous, power mad, psychopath, but idk I felt like it was a missed opportunity to make him more human without removing him being evil. I guess to some degree his advice did help, because Zuko knew to do the exact opposite of what his father proposed.
In the netflix reboot thingy, I would enjoy seeing Ozai have more screen time and show off some deathstroke level of attributes with firebending in the mix (Or all elements if they want to rewrite reality a bit and make him a dark avatar somehow and slays a lion turtle to get energybending. But with Ozai and Vaatu were the same person due to Iroh’s mother, Ilah, helping him escape, and him having his dark avatar state is just HC reigniting his depleted dark power.) I also hope Ozai and Iroh have their long overdue agni kai but it's to the death, and Ozai wins, and that he epically battles and murders the entire white lotus all by himself. The desert and the southern raiders are perhaps where Aang and Katara are at their angriest, I want to see that rage again but doubled and it's aimed at Ozai due to whatever atrocities he's inflicted on them and gaang personally, but unlike with the sandbenders and yon rah, Ozai will not cower in fear nor will he be easy to bring down, in fact, it'll be completely the other way around after he cleverly uses their rage against them. Aang eventually learns energybending and spiritbending on his own, combines them and uses them to absolve and pacify Ozai for good. Iroh's absolved soul appears in front of them and they go to the spirit world together, kinda like with Eriqus and Xehanort in the ending of kingdom hearts 3. (Or back to the dark avatar idea, after Ozaatu is pacified, Aang alters Raava and Vaatu's energies, Raava draws power from darkness as well as light where Vaatu is weakened by his own power, ergo Raava evolves into the avatar spirit of light/peace and darkness/chaos at the same time, aka, the avatar spirit of balance itself.)
I actually really wish we saw Ozai do some Deathstroke level s**t in the original series, I'm not sure I would've liked to see the Dark Avatar concept in Avatar, it felt foreign to me and everything else apart from the Deathstroke part... uhm... it seems convoluted and contrived.
I always thought Ozai was one of those one dimensional villains just looking for world dominance. But his story is much more layered and complex putting him up there with Zaheer. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Honestly Zuko would've been Ozai they both grew up with ruthless fathers and in a totalitarian regime. Zuko having Iroh is what saved his soul, unfortunately Ozai had no one to save his soul.
I mean he's a solace psychopath that probably would kill everyone and his proximity as long as he could show off and no compassion no remorse and no emotion for anyone else but himself but yeah I would be lying if I didn't say he was at least kind of hot
17:22 Here, Ozai once again uses a simple trick to unsettle Zuko by *asking* him if he trusts the Avatar more than himself, thereby distracting Zuko from the fact that Zuko and the Avatar have the same point of view. If he had simply told Zuko to do what he thought was right and not what the Avatar thought was right, Zuko would have simply replied that he and the Avatar shared the same idea of right and wrong, but that Ozai Zuko *asks* whether Zuko trusts the Avatar more than himself, he is already alienating Zuko from the Avatar by building doubts in Zuko's mind as to whether the Avatar is *at all* trustworthy if "an outsider" is already doing so begins to judge the two of them in terms of their trustworthiness, which Ozai *indirectly* does through this question. If Ozai had been openly hostile to the Avatar, Zuko would have defended his friend, but since Ozai only asks a question, there is nothing for Zuko to defend against, and the doubt and distrust can creep into Zuko's troubled mind, leading him further and further away from rationality.
I mean Amon and Unalaq are the only main antagonists that died. In the original, none of the villains died, not even Zhao as he's confirmed alive in The Legend of Korra.
I saw a video explaining what happens to ozai later in this life one day zuko went to go check on him in his cell oh he was old to shoveled he pretty much didn't change spend the rest of his life in a cell and pretty much unrepented then has zuko approached him to check on him he fell to the ground and was dead I kind of figured it was poetic irony because his whole life he was a cold, uncaring man, abusive husband and father who designed power and nothing else even his own firstborn son he thought was weak and was a disgraced he hated him the mouse because he was always weak in his eyes and didn't live up to his expectation and now in his end of his life he was not fired but it was the one and with all the power that he once had while he doesn't have any power at all anymore and is spending the rest of his life in a so for his crimes seeing the faces of those he heard and knowing that they will not be hurt by his cruelty and ambition and the last thing he sees before is his son who he the song now fire lord that's his life fades from this world the son he never acknowledged or cared about it it's the last thing he sees and his final moments on this Earth is that not ironic in a way.
17:26 This is also a smart move, because by breaking off the conversation, Ozai has, on the one hand, shown power because Zuko follows his order to leave the cell and, on the other hand, he has ensured that Zuko cannot finish the conversation and that's why remains permanently in the focus of his thoughts.
17:12 Ozai used a very simple trick here to manipulate Zuko. He first made a statement that one could potentially agree with, then made a statement that he knew Zuko would disagree with, and delivered that "false" statement as if it were the core of what he wanted to say . Zuko pounced on this second statement and already subconsciously saved the *first statement* as correct. This is one of the oldest tricks for getting someone to do something you want in the long term, because the manipulated person believes that they have defied you and thereby becomes more open to the idea of a few of your "secondary" suggestions , to perceive “voluntarily”.
