Half-Life 2: Episode Two - Ambush at the White Forest Inn [Hard]

- On their way to White Forest, Gordon and Alyx happen across an eerily peaceful valley, home to the long abandoned but still mostly intact White Forest Inn. However, something is off about the place, a suspicion confirmed when the Combine stage an ambush, trapping our heroes inside the Inn.
An excerpt from my full playthrough. You'll notice that I skipped the lambda cache in this map to cut down on video length, as I just wanted to showcase the ambush itself (along with the build-up).

What a great game. I love how episode 1 and 2 were kinda like a buddy comedy misadventure/romance movie. All the characters from Half Life 2 were so memorable and likable
Agreed! The HL2 saga had a great deal of memorable characters. I love Magnusson. Although the HL1 scientists/guards are also endearing in the cheesy kind of way

Ah yes, the white forest inn, went there once, their pancakes are delicious.
I also found their pancakes great, my only complaint is that there were a bunch of bullet holes in my suite's walls when I went. 8/10 overall.
Pancakes were great, yeah, but they have a serious Hunter infestation. 6/10
Pancakes were good,and the water is actually good! That’s the only thing I liked. The problem about this Inn is that I found a headcrab in my room. It almost killed me. 5/10
A hunter flechette stabbed into my peehole and messed EVERYTHING up. 1/10

I cut out the part where I search for the Lambda cache at 0:44, since this video's purpose is to highlight the ambush itself (and the build-up). The minute or so I spend finding the cache just pads the length of the video (it's in my full playthrough anyway).
Man Eon Trap always cuts out like halfway through the fight for me, you timed it SO well (as usual)
Yeah I really had to slow down the rate at which I'm killing Combine, otherwise the Hunters come into the Inn way too early.
The real question is why it has to cut out at all. If Mike Morasky can keep making sure that the music in whatever he works on next doesn't cut out half way through the moment, he will have easily succeeded where Kelly Bailey failed.
Odd. I kill the Combine relatively fast, i've not noticed it cut out for me. Maybe this was a bug they fixed?
Hunters are some of my favorite enemies in any FPS.
They're just so tough and nasty.

My favorite part of it was the whole ambush of course, but I really like you shooting combine after another one is exploded out into the open at 7:55. That's really awesome.
That's one of the many fortunate happy little accidents I noticed during recording :)

I always switch to the AR2 Alt Fire once the elite squad starts moving indoors

@@AcidiFy574 I think in a room with multiple enemies, the Orb just has a tendency to hit them all because of the way it bounces.

Probably one of the sneakiest G-man appearances. Super easy to miss if the player's a bit slow to get up there.

I like to think Gordan would've got flashbacks to the HECU ambush in Questionable Ethics when the trap gets sprung.
Playing Black Mesa has given me a knew perspective on HL2 and it's Episodes.

I love the dystopian settings of half life 2 story and level design. But what I didn't like was it's combat/gameplay it didn't interest me and it felt like a downgrade of the previous half life. And yes, Half-Life 1 is pretty much dated at this point, but its gameplay is better and it still holds up today.
I do wish the Half-Life 2 games had more enemy and weapon variety like the first game. That's one of the elements of the gameplay that made it more fun in my opinion.

Why aren't they helping Gordon Freeman fight the combine, confront dr breen, stealing the packet from the citadel, evacuating citizens from city 17, fighting the antlions protecting alyx, fighting the combine at white forest inn, protecting the white forest base from the combine, and helping Eli vance rescue alyx from the g-man? Where were they?🧐

@@Megajaybreaker4Leave the poor guy alone, he lived in a time where half life 3: episode 5 released. He simply time travelled back to our time so can give us a hint of what will happen. Trust me dude this is 100% legit
I really like your videos, but I can’t get over the white flashing that happens on screen. Makes it rough to watch for me. It’s an old steampipe bug. If you ever do these again, the only way to stop that from happening is to not get hurt by an acid lion.
So that's what it was. It was pissing me off too, but I had no idea why it was happening. Funnily enough the only time I got hit by acid was back in Chapter 2. I can't believe I could have stopped the flashing if only i dodged it lol. Sorry man, I wish I could do something about it.
@@Sexy_Nutella No worries, man! It took me forever to track that down. That's the one bug I wish they would fix. Took me 5 minutes to correct it.
5:25 after this part combine soldiers does not enter the building.Im stuck at this part.I'm only hearing hunter footsteps and firing by combine.Help.
Did you try going outside? I think the Combine soldiers only attack once you get closer to the outside of the building. That, or try reloading your save.
Nevermind buddy.I made it out of that.I figured out that there was one combine soldier who was on the rooftop.I kept him alive and the rest hostiles arrived.By the way,this game has the best cliffhanger ending I have ever seen.Valve seriously need to make Half Life 3.
