Our church organist played The Palms each year in our Duquesne Pennsylvania church when I was a young boy. I love to hear it now. Sends chills down my spine. Praise God through Jesus The Christ.
This is the most beautiful song of the entire Easter season. My Sunday School choir used to sing it - and I'm now 68. Not that many churches sing it and I'll never know why. I think it's just stunning.
When I was growing up our church sang it every Palm Sunday. Every year. I'm really sorry it's not done any more. These words are a bit different. But it's still beautiful.
Best version I’ve heard of this song. I listen to it a lot. Sometimes I play it on the system in my church. Our choir sings it beautifully as well. This song fills me with the joy and hope that is the Holy Spirit.
My Mom when she was alive, sang this every year on Palm Sunday. She was the Church's payed singer. Then we sang it together. Our Church is doing this song next week. I'll probably be crying. Haven't heard this since she died.
That is so beautiful! It brought tears to my eyes, very touching! Thank u for sharing it to us. We sing this in our choir on Palm Sundays and I just really love it.
We sang this song yesterday for Palm Sunday. So beautiful!! I can't get it our of my head! I have listened to the Crystal Cathedral Choir many times today. Absolutely beautiful!!!
When I a kid, I couldn't wait for Palm Sunday and Easter to hear and sing my two favorite hymns, The Palms and Christ The Lord Has RIsen Today. Although I've lost my religion, I still love hearing these. This version really reminds me of church. We even had some pretty damned good baritones.
I so miss Dr. Robert Schuller's broadcast. I have always enjoyed watching the Service @ The Crystal Cathedral, especially when I don't make it to church on a Sunday.
I also wonder why this song isn’t sung anymore on Palm Sunday. Even in today’s “less formal churches” there should be a little room for this beautiful song. It’s not like there are a whole lot of hymns dedicated to Palm Sunday.
Because the primary focus of Palm Sunday is the Passion and not the entrance into Jerusalem. Once the procession is over this song would be out of place and inappropriate.
Awesome Cathedral Choir rendition of "The Palms" as we approach "The Triumphal Entry" of JESUS CHRIST into Jerusalem...Lyrics are different from what I am accustomed to singing...However, I appreciated the spirit, melody and arrangement...Praise the Lord !!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks. I am glad you enjoyed it. The soloist Steve Pence is married to Erin Pence who is the soprano soloist in “Hear Me Redeemer” by Henry Mollicone - Erin Pence, Vocalist; Crystal Cathedral Choir directed by Don Neuen, Sean Groombridge at the Hazel Wright Organ; Tom Leonard, piano. I'm sure someone can do it (has done it, will do it), but this hymn is unique in its form , such that it's hard to contemporize or arrange into other genres. It's not a bad thing, but that may be why it's not as popular as it once was. Still, it's a haunting and beautiful worship, and it tells the story beautifully. Hosanna!
This performance, although in English instead of the original French, is quite effective. All the performing forces do quite well, including the soloist, whom I hear as a baritone albeit rather basslike in timbre.
Tom Powell I agree! They changed our hymn books to be “politically correct”. I still sing the original words. They were written that way for a reason! Have a blessed Easter Season 😇
Stellar performance by instrumentalists and singers. But whose translation is this? Terrible! This is not the classic translation that we have come to love. But still a beautiful performance.
Plz answer me the quiestion. This peace is for protestants. But this choir is cathedral ...... I dont understand and cathedral deep under meens others ???
Agree!! I used to sing this every year and we had a youth choir and childrens choir with the adults. They have also simplified the parts sginificantly. As a tenor, I loved the challenge of the original arrangement.
Great choir, orchestra and soloist. But someone obviously throught they could improve on this much beloved and classic anthem by changing the lyrics. They didn't even get the meter right. They just butchered the greatest song of Palm Sunday.
My grandmother was an organist and choir director for 60 some years. She loved this
What a beautiful rendition of this traditional Palm Sunday hymn. Wonderful soloist - good expression and powerful voice.
Our church organist played The Palms each year in our Duquesne Pennsylvania church when I was a young boy. I love to hear it now. Sends chills down my spine. Praise God through Jesus The Christ.
Beulah Presbyterian church in the fifties, every Palm Sunday I was thrilled to sing this. Don't know where they found palms in Pittsburgh...
Beautiful. One of my favorites. Thank you posting

Same with me. I'm 69 and it still make me cry. Such fond memories the worship music....way back when.
Indeed!!, Amorelle Hill
My own church (Riverside Presbyterian Church in Illinois) has been singing this song every Palm Sunday.
yes it is
Best version I’ve heard of this song. I listen to it a lot. Sometimes I play it on the system in my church. Our choir sings it beautifully as well. This song fills me with the joy and hope that is the Holy Spirit.
How beautiful. Growing up to me this was Easter. The smell of hyacinths in church and the choir singing this song on Palm Sunday.
Beautiful! This fills me with joy during the Pandemic. To God give the glory!
My Mom when she was alive, sang this every year on Palm Sunday. She was the Church's payed singer. Then we sang it together. Our Church is doing this song next week. I'll probably be crying. Haven't heard this since she died.
When is was the organist, I introduced this wonderful anthem to our Lutheran church here in France.
Beautiful. My husband’s long time favorite!🙏
Beautiful. One of my all-time favorite hymns.
Absolutely love this choir rendition of this song. Very worshipful! Also really enjoyed the soloist.

I loved singing The Palms in church. I still have to sing it every Palm Sunday.
Thank you!! You made my day...
Beautiful! I am teaching my choir this as the Anthem for Palm Sunday 2018.
What a blessing to hear this again! Thanks the Lord Jesus for all He has done for us
~ Oh thank you, thank you and BLESS you for posting this hymn. Very dear to my heart! HUGS
Finally found this from young choir days!! Love it!!
Great, wonderful, and awesome!!!
My church, Riverside Presbyterian Church in Illinois, still sings this every Palm Sunday, and yes, they sing the original words.
That was Beautiful
Mama used to play this at FBC ever Easter. Thank u, so beautiful!
Love this song💞
What an uplifting way to end a lovely day. thanks.
What an awesome couple ! So blessed!
I so miss Dr. Robert Schuller's broadcast. I have always enjoyed watching the Service @ The Crystal Cathedral, especially when I don't make it to church on a Sunday.
I'm not familiar with these words, but I'm glad to find the tune. I'll keep youtubing to find the version I know.
love this❤❤
Wonderful!
The Palms brought back my faith. Bless Faure

🌿 Holy Week begins! The Lord be praised! We stay near him, all the way to the Cross. ☦️❣️
🙏🏼 Thank you, Lord Jesus.
That piece was composed by Jean Baptiste Faure (not Gabriel Faure)

Pence is excellent, the choir is glorious, and . . .holy smoke, the whole song is well done.
Beautiful

organscholar1 I sure would Love to hear Steve and Erin sing together
Everything was beautiful...just the lyrics to complain about.

love this song
We are doing this for Palm Sunday 😇
love from wien 💙 💛 💙 💛 💙 💛 💙 💛 💙 💛 💙
the sad part of this hymn is that it is just sung once a year, if that.

Amen!
Amen
Magnificent! It’s what church music is supposed to sound like. Not this horrible quasi-pop stuff.
What did they use to film with in the Crystal Cathedral? I can get far better video quality with my *phone*.
COMO PUEDO ADQUIRIR ESTA PARTITURA???
Why are the lyrics not the original?
+amorelle hill There must a dozen renditions.
+amorelle hill Translations from another language provide such a latitude.
Most English versions fall short of the beauty of the original French lyrics
Lift high the cross
What does this anthem sound like in English, I wonder?
Wow beautiful voices and orchestra, but inferior translation of lyrics. They made the song clumsy. Why rewrite it?
Tom Powell I agree! They changed our hymn books to be “politically correct”. I still sing the original words. They were written that way for a reason! Have a blessed Easter Season 😇
It beautiful but I prefer to hear this piece with choir and ORGAN only
Who composed this song?
All hail the jesus!!!
Stellar performance by instrumentalists and singers.
But whose translation is this?
Terrible!

But still a beautiful performance.

Why did you ruin this by changing the words? :(

Absolutely! Agreed!
Beautiful performance but awkward translation that doesn't fit the meter.
@@tampanativeson HA HA - 7-11 comment - I will have to remember that, since it is so true.

Soloist sings Jesus Christ instead of Jesus comes at 0:32, but since someone has butchered the original lyrics, guess it doesn't really matter.
He knows he messed up - he smirks for a moment, LOL. Nicely done, still.
What can I say, you got me.
Great choir, orchestra and soloist.
But someone obviously throught they could improve on this much beloved and classic anthem by changing the lyrics.

They just butchered the greatest song of Palm Sunday.
Beautiful
